I am playing the big campaign as the Axis. On the first two turns my rail repair guys were doing fine, but on the third turn they are unable to move. They all have zero move points. I cannot figure out why.

Sounds like a bug, FBD units should always have 16 MP's when in supply.

I used all of the units on the first turn to repair rails. Each unit successfully repaired two sections, then on the second turn all of the units have zero movement points and are seemingly stuck. However, each unit has a button that says "Return to HQ" and if I click it they are instantly teleported to their respective HQ units.

On the third turn they are at their HQ and still have not replenished their moves.

Hmm, you might be mixing up the on map FBD units with the automated construction battalions. FBD units don't have a return to HQ button and they always have 16 MP's, only the automated construction battalions have that and they always have 0 MP's and return to their HQ automatically after the turn.

Oh thanks, you are correct. I went through them all just now and my FBD units do indeed have moves. I didn't know there were automated units.

Wait... I did have a situation where my FBD unit had MP but no supply and couldn't fix RAIL. What gives? He was move off by one and had a gap with broken rail. So maybe they don't get supply unless on working Rail???

If you hit the "R" hot key it will highlight your 5 FDB units in yellow. Before you end your turn hit this and make sure you have used them to repair rail lines, it really sucks if you miss one...

Check the other thread- repair can only be done up to 4 hexes from a rail head, 6 in the Baltic zone,

Speaking about RR, what would be a feasible strat?

With the few FDB units it's hardly possible to get everything repaired or at least maintain a continuous path to your leading motorized units, and HQ construction battailons don't cut it either.

Focus the FBD units on the rail lines where you need to repair/convert the least in order to get to your breakthrough units, let the automated construction battalions "backfill" the rest.

Studying the map before you start playing and figuring out where to send your rail repair units is part of the fun of the game.  You should always be aware of rail lines immediately behind enemy lines as cutting a critical rail line could mess up their supply especially in bad weather.

I've got a tactical question about use of rail repair units (FDB).

Let's say that I have one in the Minsk scenario and I want to convert the rail line from Brest-Litovsk to Minsk.

Is it better on turn 1 to convert the first couple of hexes right at the border (Brest-Litovsk and the next just E of B-L)?

Or is it better to "skip" a hex or two and start converting there since the smaller auto-repair units will repair the first hex or two on their own?

I'd guess the former but confirmation would be great. Thx.

The FBDs can only be used when connecting to undamaged rail lines. In other words, you can't skip a couple of damaged rail hexes - the FBD unit won't allow you to repair.

Im currently trying Road to Smolensk and I sent my forward units along rail lines instead of swamp, now they are all 100% damaged,so my FBD unit has to follow and repair the lines? This isnt done auto matic by the construction crews attached to HQ?

Just checking that I understand this correctly. I'm playing Road to Minsk (Normal difficulty). First play through got a draw.

Anyway, after pushing ahead noticed that Rail hexes are 100% damage. OK, if I move the FBD unit to the first hex of damaged track on a line (right next to a hex of Axis rail) will it automatically repair? What if there are still enemy units within 5 hexes? Will it then not repair until I'm able to rout or retreat those enemy units out beyond the 5 hex range?

Thanks.

If the damaged rail is eligible for repair, you will see numbers next to "RRC" otherwise there will be a dash. Click on "RRC" to repair the rail.
