v4.0 COACH Riggs

OVERVIEW OF THE OFFENSE
Coach Riggs is a balanced conservative playbook. His playbook contains various pro formations, two tight end formations, and three wide receiver formations. The offense is centered around the wide receivers (R1 and R2) and the running back.

Most running plays will be dives and powers sweeps to the strong side. Passing plays will usually be short and quick with occasional moderate range passes. Don't expect too many deep passes unless the situation is 2nd or 3rd and long.

The quarterback can be average in ability. He doesn't need a cannon because he's not throwing deep too often. All he needs to do is get the ball to the wide receivers so they can move the ball.

The running back needs a balance of strength, speed, and acceleration. He will be expected to dive up the middle or sweep around the outside. He will also be used a secondary target for the quarterback and should have decent catching ability. A good blocking and receiving fullback would compliment the running back and the quarterback.

R1 (WR) and R2 (WR) share the responsibility of primary receiver. Each have their own special abilities and will be the quarterback's target in different situations. R1 is a possessive receiver; he will run mostly short and moderate yard routes. R2 is a speed receiver; he usually runs moderate and deep routes. The tight end (TE1) will rarely be the target of the quarterback's passes. However, he should be able to provide some protection for the quarterback and pick up blocks for the running back.

OVERVIEW OF THE DEFENSE
Coach Riggs uses a 4-3 base and prefers the nickel in 3rd and long situations. The defense is centered around fast safeties and linebackers that can drop back into a zone, cover man-to-man, yet be able to sack red. Expect Coach Riggs to blitz on almost every down.
