Hi all,

Playing this one before going onto 41 Campaign proper.

I wondered how others were finding it/doing? Here's the end of Turn 3 before the mud kicks in. Will I take Moscow?

Not taking Rzhev before the mud hits is going to cause you some problems. But very nice job on the pockets.

Not taked Rzhev and Tula can be a problem but you did a great movements . Now all depend how you are able to play the germans in mud weather so that is the key to get the most in snow. If you plan mud season well you will have some chances to take Moscow in snow but remember that many soviet forces will become unfrozen soon... take a look to HQ buid feature for if is needed and dont forget to airlift your spearheads.

Btw, the best choice to start before to go into a campaign. I learned a lot with the 4 weathers in the game to improve myself

The best thing to do is to take all the VP cities (except Moscow and Voronezh) before mud, and try to take Moscow in snow turns.

Much better than I did on my first attempt, but I think you will come up short, but at least you will see how combat power changes with the weather.

Listen to Ester, shes the Queen of this one. Btw don't play agianst her on this one...Me, it may be hard to believe, I've never played it. I don't like to move my units in mud...I follow Guderian's advise after the Kiev pocket was reduced. It's time to take up winter quarters...

It's pretty much like Ester says. You need to put yourself in the position where you've got Moscow flanked before the mud hits and then bag it during the snows. My own view is that Kaluga and Rzhev at a minimum need to go by turn 3. Kalinin and Tula would be nice, too, but not absolutely essential.

You got Kaluga here, which sets you up nicely for the southern pincer, but are going to be stymied up north due to the bastion in Rzhev.

Soon or later I'll defeat you in typhoon, my black cat. I'm still working on a good strategy in my solo game...

Btw, speaking of pbem, the road to Leningrad will be the highway to hell for you

All depends, Flavio, all, as the game is going on. About your statements seems is more important Rzhev than Tula to be taked on turn 3. Not always, I think. I would change Tula as main objective in many games, dont you?

Jose, I'm doubting that Moscow can fall to a single envelopment. Granted, the going is much easier in the south, and if you had to try this, than Tula is the obvious place to launch a single envelopment operation.

It's not so much that Rzhev is more important than Tula, it's that you need to clear the flanks north and south of Moscow to set yourself up to bag the place. Tula is better than Kaluga for the southern pincer, but Kaluga in a pinch will do. Kalinin and Rzhev may be interchangeable so far as the northern flank goes, and possibly you can do this with one or the other in your hands.

Hi all,

Interesting discussion

Experiencing mud for the first time....interesting to have to watch the Corps HQ distance to the units with the increased MP cost for supply.

I've just been plugging the line, moving the infantry forward and wiping out a few cut off units. What do you normally do on mud turns?

Sorry Jose, I really never paid much attention to Typhoon. Its really is a failed plan. Maybe two weeks of advancment to get closer to Moscow and eat up troops, then stop and dig in...Overall, I like the big picture...Put the Bear down in 42...

Oh! Are you tell me how to play Typhoon? Yes, it seems... Im very surprised about your strategy Ester and I in two years testing Typhoon were are not able to think about that Just only want to say that Tula can be so important than Rzhev and of course if you get the both

I am really having a hard time with typhoon. I get a few early smallish pockets but nothing like the advances you got. I am trying to learn the game on challenging but it might be too hard for me. I switched to Kiev which I though would be harder and am making very nice progress. Any suggestions when I take on typhoon again.

Nice AAR!

It is pretty "brave" to experience blizzard turns on challenging, but feel free to change the AI settings to "normal" once the blizzard arrives.

If you wonder, Josan and I go way back 12 or 13 years. In WIR posts I was "Die Kreigerian" hope I spelled it correct. Anyway we both crushed people in AAR's on the forum, and for some reason we never played one another. So I asked Joel to bring him in. We still have never played...lmao...Respect I guess, maybe fear. Good luck Flav. You need to post that one...Flav is a great player, this should be good...

Another good thing to do imo is not to leave to the Soviets in blizzard turns other divisions except the 3 frozen armies and some newly built units. All the other divisions must be destroyed, like the whole frontline in clear turns.

I tried

Destroyed 41 alone on Turn 3.

AI had a brain f*rt on this turn as it totally left Tula empty for me to occupy.....
