Bring it on, Jose. Post a challenge on multiplayer and I'm there.

I'm actually waiting on Ester for this too, come to think of it.

will go Flavio, I will go. Be patience... Just know you have the time to play so no excuse if you lose

You can post an AAR, in either private or public forum, no matter for me, and I'll post my AAR in the same forum you choose. It will be interesting for me to compare the strategies. You always gave the priority to the VP cities, I preferred to destroy as much as possible the Soviet army... 2 nice AAR to read imo

Closing in on Moscow.....as it's a test scenario before playing the campaign I'm going for it and am 'looking forward' to seeing the results of Blizzard when un-prepared for it.....

Well didn't quite manage to reach the western outskirts of Moscow. Not a bad effort for a first attempt. Maybe a C+ I'd give myself. The Blizzard will hit hard.....

How have other non-testers done in this?

You can still shoot for a marginal victory here...if you can hold on to what you've got.

A big if.

Speedy, for whatever it is worth, the scenario does not reward a German who just sits tight and digs in from the getgo. That's a guaranteed loss. The victory points are designed to encourage you to go for the gold. The strategic decision has already been made here. In a campaign game, of course, you can choose otherwise and forego a late autumn drive on Moscow and make plans to ride out the winter.

This makes a nice practice scenario for experiencing blizzard conditions.

For the scenario the German campers are in trouble, but the campaign is the thing and overextending to get Moscow means a lot of losses.

You can only hope to get a decent result as German if you encircle and destroy the whole Russian frontline in turn 2 and if you manage to encircle and destroy a lot of divisions in snow turns. If you don't kill enough Soviet divisions you will surely lose.

This blizzard thing that people keep talking about...does it effect Germans only or also Russians? In my mind blizzard would mean that neither force was really having definitive edge over natures power. I understand that generally speaking Soviet Army should suffer less from winter, but I feel the known results of the first winter should not be a reason to overemphasize "blizzard". Afterall the Germans just went too far. They won a number of winter battles against Soviets in winter conditions...Operation Mars and Liuban catastrophe (destruction of 2nd shock Army) come to mind. Just a few thoughts.

The movement possibilities are reduced for both sides, but the Germans are much weaker than the Russians. I know that Germans won historically some battles in winter, but if you want to have more chances to survive, you should kill as many Soviet divisions as you can.

Note that the blizzard combat penalties on the German are for the first winter only. After that, only the movement penalties apply to either side.

So something like the Operation Mars blunder is completely possible, and the Soviet can't expect to be bailed out by the weather in subsequent winters.

Well....it was a Soviet Minor Victory in the end. Managed to succesfully hold all ground in front of Moscow (which would be good for a 1942 offensive) but there were substantial breakthroughs NW of Rzhev and further south near Voronezh......

Blizzard conditions are incredibly crippling and sapping on German strength and ability to fight (as they should be). Learnt a lot in this which will be helpful for my upcoming Campaign.....

Strange. Did you have Tula? I was assuming you did, and that should put you in striking range of a German minor.

Ah I see what happened here.

You lost the game up north. Toropets and Ostashkov in particular.
