i started to load Zons metal mod into LSA but stopped when it said it was going to add a desk top icon.
how does this mod work? i assumed it would just change the vehicle graphics?

is it a stand alone mod / game like TLD GT 1.7??

what happenes if i add the new patch to the game? does it matter if the metal mod is installed when i do this?

Hey Stiener,

It probably does just change the vehicle graphics but it installs the changed files in a sub-directory of LSA so that it does not over write any LSA files. The Icon/Shortcut tells LSA to start but use whatever files are in the sub-directory first before the regular files. This change with WAR, TLD and LSA gets rid of big problem with CC5 were the game would corrupted from installing and uninstalling mods....

So yes it works the same as GT.

You should be able to install a patch just fine with it installed. Having said that the mod could be broken by a patch as the mod can use a mix of its own updated files and the original game files.

Thanks to berndn's Mod Installler tool, the Metal Mod desktop icon launches LSA using zon's graphics. Your existing LSA desktop icon would still launch the current version of stock LSA. There are no conflicts (so far) using the various LSA patches with Metal Mod, since the mod installs its files on top of the current version. Your opponent doesnt need the mod, you'll see zon's vehicle graphics, he'll see the stock graphics.

We have experienced ërror reports at game launch if we use different /D switches to start the game.

Steiner, a /D switch is the way that metal mod is launched.

I don't think anyone has tried playing a game launched using a /D switch and a stock game launched without the /D switch.

So, one of two things will happen... the pair of you just won't be able to play with different configurations or there will be no problem at all.

try it and let us know.

If you installed the mod with modswap then you should be able to play just fine.

But you would have to do the modswap conversion and download and install modswap.

modswap is available here : compatible with CoI/WaR/LSA/tLD

That is good that the game knows one person is playing with a mod installed and the other is not. It may not affect, but then the different files could be used to given one side an advantage....

I did post earlier though

2B v 21B and no error reported.

I think this is only reporting use of a different /D switch

and I don't think manually changing the base files reports an error.

While I uploaded the mod with the new installer system, I don't use it myself so I have avoided some of the above issues. I just backed up and replaced the two files — tanks and shadows housed in the graphics folder. I've attached a zip here if anyone wants to go with the simple, old-fashion manual install route (1.5MB).

Nothing wrong with the old fashioned way... except the risk of corrupt installations.

But easily fixed with a re-installation

:)

Sorry about new questions in an old thread but: I just downloaded the non mod swap version of Zons LSA MM mod, and on install it did create an desktop icon, however when used it takes me to the old LSA splash screen start. Just curious if it did install since I thought it might have it`s own start screen ?

Thanks

I don't know if zon is still frequenting the boards -- you might try sending him a PM. I'm not familiar with the mod myself.
