Southwest and part of southern front. Have some reserve here ans will try and take Kharkov by surrounding it. Notice the stronger German units strengths here.

Players have really taken to heart the idea of preserving panzers during the blizzard; it is the worst problem for the Soviet player because this is the best time to knock them off the battlefield, if even by disabling them.   Killing them in the spring/summer will be much harder.

When the Panzers come back in good shape for a possible spring offensive, it appears they have just scraps of infantry left. Seems like a tough decision to make. Against the AI it's a bit easier, panzers winter in Moscow environs, Stalin environs and Leningrad and can generally respond via the "reserve" function. In PBEM the German players haven't achieved that level if winter quarters, hehe.

I just want to cause casualties, more Germans gone, less to deal with later, and they don't get stronger over time.

Aghhhhh   Damit, your arrows kick total ass!   What program are you using again?  I need to try something like this with my maps, wonderful idea miller just wonderful. I wonder if 2.5-2.7 Mil for new games is the norm? I guess I'll just have to browse around and see.

Looking at your last casualty count it matches mine as far as Soviets losses.  I feel better that my German losses are almost 200,000 less than Belphigor's .

I use Snag-it, a capture program, it gets great screen captures and has enough of an editor to get the job done, can't do some of the cool things some of the other programs can but it works.

Turn 26 in the books, and I have to say my opponent is doing a much better job containing me than in my other contest. Question is will he be able to continue in the face of blows for 2-3 months. I posted easier screens this turn so i could get the turn back to my opponent. Not much to report as his lines held up, but I did dig him back near Leningrad, which was a surprise considering how well he dug in.

I will need to read all the things you have done during the blizzard. Especially before it: how you prepared your forces, your goals, etc. Right now I have no idea at all! Everything is on your AAR so I will be reading that part carefully...

I think it was a mistake by your opponent to build fort units.

I am thinking it was to, they didn't hold up at all as far as my attacks, took them all in the first attack.

Tullis, the best advice I can give you is to try and save as many troops as you can in the summer. The more men you have the better the offensive will be. Building RR repair units is a must also once your ready to attack because if you break thru you will quickly outrun your supplies and your attacks will start to fad out, at least mine did in my other game. Group your cavalry divisions together under a good commander and when you can convert them do it in mass. Then use those as a breakthrough force. Armored brigades are to small for that, or should be except for the fact that the Germans have almost Zero counterattack ability during the blizzard. It takes time and effort to organize your fronts but it pays off with better command control, higher supply and more successful attacks in the beginning.

As I see it, Fortified regions can be very useful. To me it's 100% clear: Fortified Regions = the only guys who can prepare a defensive line 5, 10 or 15 hexes BEHIND the front -because you do NOT have enough units to do that job. But when the enemy appears, disband them (they are not combat units, they are not supposed to fght the enemy, that is NOT their job). Your authentic combat units will be then occupying these fortified hexes. But without these Fortified Regions = NO FORTS in the first place!

So I really cannot understand the extremists who say they are totally useless

Excellent advices, Miller, thank you
