FoW/AI Question - 12/19/2010 8:26:33 PM

Why is it that playing against the AI and selecting FoW causes me to experience true FoW but the AI can actually see all of my units? I understand that the AI only sees the counters and doesn't have any information about the unit itself, but is there a way to make the AI experience true FoW?

If not, what is the logic behind this? Is it an AI limitation or is there some other reason? Seems like the game would be more balanced if the AI didn't know (for example) that I was forming up a large army somewhere deep behind the front, or that I was holding back large forces for a surprise counter attack. I assume this is not an issue in a human vs human game...

The AI ignores FOW and has what comes down to unlimited AP's.

Thanks for the response but I'm very much a newbie to this genre of gaming so pardon the ignorance. I'm still unclear...When you say the AI ignores FOW you mean FOW doesn't apply to the AI regardless of settings, right? Again, maybe because I'm new, it seems odd that the AI can bypass the FOW rules and gain that sort of advantage. This game is so detailed and realistic in every way with the exception of this AI FOW issue. Also, what's the logic behind giving the AI unlimited AP's?

I'm not sure whether there's a "logic" behind those decisions, for an answer on that you'd have to ask Gary. I'm just the messenger in this case. The AI ignoring FOW gives it an edge that helps it perform a bit better. I don't really want to know what an AI using movement FOW would perform like, as it probably isn't going to be pretty. The unlimited AP's is something I only recently discovered myself, after the AI had created about 70 corps in a single turn in the 1942 campaign.

Got it...That's very interesting. The AP issue is odd but maybe worked into the game for the same reason as the FOW? Anyway, thanks again for the response. You cleared a lot of this up for me.
