Korabbian Cheese, I believe. It greatly enhances the squeek of anyone who consumes it, giving your colonies a development bonus.

The Teekan ships are taking a long time to create. So, as the update might not come for a few days here is a preview of their ships: An Introduction to Teekan Engineering

The Teekans don't have any particular design philosophy, they generally see what they can get their claws on and stick it haphazardly together, hoping it will work. There are many failed designs that have broken apart in space, unexpectedly exploded or simply suffered navigational errors and ended up flying around in circles... at light speed... for decades

The Teekans live and work in the brown dome shaped areas with the orange trim, the rest of their ships are cobbled together and used for engines, reactors, cargo, fuel storage and the like.

Below are some of the more successful designs that have as of yet not unexpectedly exploded or suffered navigational issues dropping them out of warp in front of a Boskara cruiser or some similar malfunction.

I just played an hour or two as humans with your shipset. Works like a charm :) and the teekans are cool. My favourite until now even!

Only thing is that it becomes really difficult to see at a glance whats going on. Maybe it would be an idea to have some standard design rules e.g. escorts are thinnest while capital ships are fattest?

Cheers!

Glad your enjoying the ships!  I'll keep in mind about making ships easier to identify.  The Human ships actually use original shapes from DW shipset 1, only the textures are changed and I cut off any pointy bits.  A quick note that may or may not help, I don't put lights on Escorts or Frigates, but there are lights on Destroyers, Cruisers and Capitals.  I think this is actually how a few of the originals work in DW, I made it a standard rule for all my shipsets so far.

Version 4 is now available with the Teekan ships

It may take a while of playing them before you get used to what ship is what, due to their style, all cobbled together.  I hope there is a Teekan player or two out there as these were a nightmare to make   so please enjoy

We'll enjoy them playing as other races, it's nice to see other races flying around in their own ships ;)

They look great by the way.

I don't think I've ever played as the Teekans, but I'll certainly recognise their ships from now on.

Hehe, you will certainly recognise them

I'm stuck on what race to do next, I have an idea for Ugnari, but having just made the other race of thick little traders I might do someone else in between. Having no ideas I just started experimenting, I like this design but who would it suit? I was thinking either Mortalen, Sluken, Boskara or Shakturi. The dot is red because I was thinking Mortalen at the time, but it could be changed to the default flag colour of whatever race.

It's between the Mortalen and Boskara for me. It doesn't quite look Sluken and I'm not sure about the Shakturi, I like the silvery design of their ships.

Mortalen or Boskara, that's for sure. Can't say which one though.
Shakturi ships look quite nice as they are now.

Okay Mortalen it is.  Unfortunately I forgot the method I used to get the exact colour on that ship overnight, lol.  So I can't use that exact ship just incase the others turn out slightly different colour, but thats the style I'll aim for.  I think it suits Mortalen as they have an engine tech that makes their ships turn faster, and that looks like an agile ship.  Boskara I would prefer big chunky looking Behemoths I think.

Nibelung44 are you familiar with Photoshop?  It involves a lot of cut & pasting followed by spot healing, cloning and colour editing.  I can try and write a tutorial at some point if you like, the Zenox ships for example would be quite easy for anyone to follow, but unfortunately it would have to be for photoshop as I've never used Gimp before.

I tend to use Paint.NET but I'm really an amateur anyway. Basically, you take a pre-existing ship from DW and then alter an retouch it dozen of times, a bit like a plastic surgeon? Or you start from scratch?

Everything in all the ships is taken from DW, no external images or textures were used. For instance the black ship above started life as a Ackdarian passenger ship.

It was mixed with a few other ships from the same set by copy/pasting. Sometimes a whole ship or just a part of it, sometimes got to use the eraser to get rid of the bits you don't want. Then use the clone tool or spot healing tool (clone tool is better, spot is quicker) to cover up any obvious joins.

Then made symetrical by copy/pasting and flipping half of it.

Then the colour which was done with the hue, reduce noise, variations and contrast tools. To do the same for a whole set you can write down the settings you used so you remember them.

Just looked at this thread for the first time and I love what I see.
Just downloaded and installed your shipsets onto my custom Hiigaran shipset with no trouble at all. Very much looking forward to your future releases.

Mortalen are finished, but I'm not happy with them

As usual the largespaceport is a bit blurry, as is the medium or small if you upgrade them to the large size.  I've managed to procure some software (cheers dad ) which is for enlarging images without losing as much quality as you normally would, hopefully in future shipsets I can put this to good use.  The main thing I'm not happy with is the Spaceports designs, I think the ships are an infinate improvement over the originals, but the bases are a bit lame   But have no fear, I've decided to come back and make them again at a later date, when all the races have their individual shipsets.

I've now got some aims for the mod, as so far I've just been making stuff and putting it out without any idea what the final mod will be.  I've decided I'm going to replace every single ship in the game, all 20 playable races, the 2 unplayable races, all derelicts and pirate vessels and the planet destroyer.  I would also like to change the conversations file, but thats on the backburner for now.

1st Priority:  One set per race including matrix originals, so thats 11 new sets
2nd Priority:  The other 11 sets replacing all races totally
3rd Priority:  Come back and replace anything I don't like, like some of the spaceports I made
4th Priority:  The remaining ships for pirates etc

Okay, Mortalen upload coming later today

I'll be happy when every race has their own shipset. Meaning, when you replace the duplicates like Teekan, Mortalen, Human and the like with new ones. I'm quite happy with rest of the original shipsets.

Be sure to divide this mod so everybody can get what they want, that is when you get enough stuff done.

The Mortalen update is on the first page now. The file was too big to attatch so I had to upload it to fileden, could someone confirm that the DL link works, I tried it and it appears to work for me.

J HG T I will eventually post the shipsets seperate then and an instructions on how to install whichever ones you want. I'll keep a complete ready to go full DL available too

Finally, take a look at the Mortalens brand new flagship, the Mortak Battlecruiser, don't mess with
