ZOC Calculation - 1/25/2011 5:59:48 PM

My concern is after a battle where I win there are hexes adjacent to my unit that did not change to pending friendly because before the battle the ZOC was disputed by the now defeated unit. They remain enemy hexes but I assumed that during the next player's logistics phase the ZOC's would be re-calculated (like when isolated areas switch control when not within a friendly units ZOC) and those hexes adjacent to my units and not disputed would switch to my control. However, this is not the case. WAD? Why wouldn't my unit's patrols be going there after the battle to assume control, like they would have when they first moved next to it if there had been no competing enemy ZOCs?

Also, it seems odd that there are cases where a weak enemy occupying a hex can be to my advantage by allowing me to attack him and after he retreats the hexes changes to pending friendly even if there are other enemy units that have ZOCs in that hex. However, if no enemy unit is there the only way to get control is to physically move into the hex or defeat all other enemy units with ZOCs in the hex and then move into/next to it. I may not have the MPs to do either of the alternative options. Why can't I attack an empty hex to assume control? What would be the difference between me "attacking" the enemy patrols (his ZOC) versus attacking an actual unit occupying the hex and after winning taking control of the hex. I would still use the appropriate attack MPs to get control of that hex, though winning would be assured. Logically, it makes no difference but it may unbalance the game.

Until you move, the ZOC will not change except in the hex you attacked. Looks like an abstraction that you capture the hex you attacked (part of your Div is there). If they are dark colored hexes, that means another enemy unit is exerting ZOC also, if light colored, just move next to it and they will change ZOC next turn.

I understand what is happening, I just question why. If no enemy unit had been there I would have taken control of every adjacent hex as soon as I moved there but after I defeat him and his patrols beat feet I do not get those same hexes, which now have no competing enemy ZOCs. Are my patrols too tired after the fight to walk there and take control if I stay stationary but would have no problem doing it if I move 1 hex?

I still want to be able to attack empty hexes and change the ZOC
