v1.01 still playing my first campaign vs AI on challenging - turn 36 - 19.2 1942.

During blizzard so far AGN pushed 14 hexes back in general.
AGC less, average 8 at worst 15 hexes in one place.
1,2 million germans casualites since december 41.

So I guess there's a good reason to execute them! LOL

Victory/loss ratio is
List - 543/231
von Leeb - 441/234

This was fixed in later patches... that's why I asked...

BTW, there is no fear of going to new EXE (i.e. using new patches) - the data patches will not be used anyway since you have old game going on but the game engine changes are most welcome so there is no need not to use latest patches!

What's the difference between "dismissed" and "executed" in game terms? Are dismissed generals back in the pool?

Yeah, I did not realize I was playing on 1.01, Thought the game updated itself.
An upgrade seems like a good idea yes :)

Good question... I must check it...

Although the "Dismissed" should be available later (the "Executed" are gone forever)...

Dismissed are back in the pool and can be reassigned.

Dead is gone, unless they are zombie generals. Zombie generals can only command units that were destroyed and then rebuilt.

Yep! And zombie units can only move one hex, but will inspire fear in enemy units, lowering their morale by 20%.

And they don't consume supplies or ammo, they kill by eating enemy soldier's brains.

You're wrong. There are zombie generals. Commanding zombie truppen. I think these guys should be in the German OOB.

P.S.: if you haven't seen this Norwegian horror-comedy movie, do it

Anyway, correct me if I am wrong but Hitler did not execute any general because of some poor performance Dismissed, yes, a lot of them

He did assassinate those who were involved in the complots. But that's a totally different issue.

So I don't understand this rule, sorry.

"General XXX has been Executed!!!" seems to strike the wrong tone.

I think we should go with more detail:

"General von XXX has been shamed to suicide by elaborate Gestapo forgeries"
"General XXXov has been beaten for two weeks in the Lubyanka basement, and has confessed to more than thirty plots against Comrade Stalin"
"General XXX has succumbed to a vodka and/or schnapps overdose."

For Hitler for much of the war, there was "dismissed" and then there was "kicked out of the army". The later never commanded again and were stripped of rank and the right to wear the uniform, etc. (Hoepner would be an example).

General Hadler was arrested the day after the July Plot, but wasn't offically dismissed from the army till 1/31/45.

If memory serves, there was one, I believe called Sponeck, who was dismissed, tried and executed in 1942 for retreating in the face of Soviet Landings in the Kerch peninsula.

By and large they tended to be dismissed and sent home, certainly at the higher levels.

On 23 July 1999, the 55th anniversary of the execution, Sponeck's son by his second marriage, Hans-Christof Graf Sponeck, who was just six years old when his father was executed, held a requiem at his father's grave. Hans-Christof Graf Sponeck served as Assistant Secretary General and Diplomat, United Nations, until his retirement a short time ago

He was sentenced to death in 1942, but Hitler commuted his sentence to six years in prison.

Himmler ordered his execution after the July Plot. Took place on 7/23/44.

I never read anything about it, was he actually involved or did he have any knowledge whatsoever of the plot, or was it simply an opportunity for Himmler to be Himmler?

He wasn't involved, but was a suspected anti Nazi.
