Now that I had beta 6 on my pc - I had promised myself I wouldnt visit these forums anymore - so I could actually start playing a game. Some of the posts here actively dissuade me from playing the game. I am not blaming anyone here - its just the point that whislt an active forum is definitely a good idea ... reading some of the topics here about how the game is broken make me just want to shelve it again.

Jeez - what a pointless post ... perhaps we can have a separate forum for big arrogant mouths like yours so you dont have to listen to anyone else. Your posts are half the problem. I had a certain opinion of you from your other posts. This one has only served to confirm it. If the thread is pointless in your god almighty opinion why read it - least of all post in it. If you dont like the post why dont you F**k off and do something else with your valuable time king of the forums.

Calm down. I am not "king of the forums". Last couple of days I was voicing my opinion on ONE part (one part, out of hundereds) of the game that didn't work for me. Apparently I wasn't alone in that opinion. So we were discussing things, testers were testing, and some changes will be made. That's all.

Business as usual, I would say, nothing too dramatic.....

I don't understand how someone NOT affected by all that, can get to the idea to suddenly stop playing the game? Whatever....

Who said I wasnt affected by that ? Thats precisely the point I was making in my pointless post about the forum. Given from what I have read of the thread and subject you were posting in and supporting - the gist of that is that the entire game is broken because of the fact that due to the first winter modelling the german army is basically destroyed as a fighting force in 41 and 42. Someone - maybe not you - also pointed out thats why there are no AAR's going to the end of the game - because its all over by feb 42 ... Thats hardly ONE PART out of hundreds is it ?

The point I was trying to make before you came along with your overwhelming sense of self importance is that whilst forums are generally a good thing - for those of us that dont have the obviously hours to analyze and play the game as you do - posts pointing these things out can effectively destroy the game before I even start it. I have very limited game time - probably not enough to ever even finish a game of WITE so certainly dont want to waste it playing a game as fundamentally broken as you are suggesting it is. Hardly business as usual is it.

Thats wasnt meant to be a criticism of anyone for pointing the issue out, merely an observation on forums - that maybe pointless - but certainly not an invitation to you to tell me such.

DBeves I sincerely apologize if I came off as having "overwhelming sense of importance" (I really don't). And I apologize if my posts took away the enjoyment of the game from you. It was never an idea behind them (behind the posts).

However, if you're so easily disturbed, perhaps you really should not be reading these forums as per your own suggestion?

Then how would I know the game is broken and know not to play it ? and now I know, If I leave now How will I know when the broken game is fixed ?

Well I think patch 06 made the game even better, so no complaining on my side. Thoroughly enjoying the game sofar. Ofcourse I'm saying this after having played a few turns with good sunny weather  ( a few games with blizzard experiences the last couple of days ---> mood goes downhill fast LOL ).

Maybe a solution to this is to move all 'broken game' threads into a 'bickering/whiners' sub-forum, so they don't splash into the face of newcomers and ruin the fact that this is the the best game since sliced bread!

Just to chime in on the subject, Oleg, I think you're a tool as well.

My first impression of Oleg was hearing him talk about how he felt fine punishing the German player in a head-to-head game because the Axis player was obviously stupid in how he functioned in command of the German army.  THEN he played the German side.  It wasn't enough to say he was wrong (which arguably he did... arguably).  He then went on to eclipse the rational winter debate with Veruka Salt "I want it NOW!" whining of a schoolgirl.  As if that didn't leave enough of an impression of Oleg the Mastr Narcissist, then he started on a crusade that the game is a Superman Phase I (German 1941) -Superman Phase II (Soviet blizzard) theory.  And the whole game should come to a halt and be fixed because Oleg =

I consider Oleg a fine example of the Dunning-Kruger effect, and the author of his own hagiography, and thus, I just scroll past his posts now.  (Hint for Oleg: I won't be reading your reply to me.)

To the OP:
You gotta stop reading forums when they leave with emotional negativity whose half-life exceeds 30 minutes, man.
Let me know if you want to do a PBEM game.  I might re-instill your faith in the community.  I try to teach people what I've learned of supply, because as any Operational game player knows:  "Amateurs discuss tactics, professionals discuss logistics" or something like that.

Most of the community is actually really great.  Heck, I've been asked to rein in my wayward commentaries on a couple of occasions.  I'll probably be asked again in this one.  What can I say: I come from the fine American tradition of calling someone who is an a$$ in public an a$$ in public.

Some of the threads you should just stay away from for a while when they get hot, anyhow, unless you have strong opinions.

HAHA. No not at all... I thought it was some spoof of Hitler. They share the same moustache.

Even if you think someone is a PITA.

It's better to just ignore them. Or green button them.

I've never been on such a rude forum btw. Strange that.

Anyone who plays WITP-AE knows that it took a LONG time, about 5 years and a brand-new release, to get it sorta right. That didn't mean it wasn't fun to play all along, it just meant we kept sharing data, etc, to get things more historical or more playable or both. That is a fact of life with a complex gaming engine, like that one, or WITE.

There is a difference between what I think is constructive feedback, vs. just whining. I don't think anyone has been whining.

Not in this thread at least.

Even if you don't want to play the grand campaign because of the winter, there are lots of scenarios which are equally fun.

There's a simpler way to achieve this goal, just click the green button and put me on "ignore" list. If that would help you and some other people, than by all means do it. Scrolling past by my posts may be pretty demanding, as some of them are obviously too long and wordy for you to digest.

I see a lot of people managed to change their avatars. I am trying to change mine (about time I get a GF, and the current pic might scare them away, if you know what I mean) since december but I can't. I get an error. So I'm stuck with the somewhat "special" guy I was told the error was on the server's side. Perhaps someone does not want me to [finally!] get a nice GF

My avatar is from the movie "The Great Dictator" which was filmed before wwii broke out, and released in 1940.

Well - I take this all on board.

Cant say anything even in this thread has made me feel better about the game as there seems to be a consensus even from different sides of the fence it is in fact broken - at least as far as the GC goes - which is in fact all I am interested in. The seeming lack of any official input into the argument doesnt augur well for it being fixed anytime soon either.

Still, had a couple of friends who were going to buy but I told them to hold off - at least I know I can tell them to wait a couple of years for the field marshal edition and keep them as friends!

Play with a house rule during the first winter, till it gets patched away.

When it starts looking unrealistic, come to a compromise. After the winter let the fun resume.

Simple.

I will repeat what I wrote previously in one other similar thread - there is great 1942-1945 campaign if anyone feels / thinks that Barbarossa (i.e. 1st winter) rules are currently too adverse!

WitE is great fun to play and enjoy with plethora of scenarios (big and small)!
