In the course of my testing of Treespider's mod I have encountered some odd behaviour in the loading of a task force.

I've been forming a succession of CS convoys composed of the fast NYK/OSK motor ships to haul resources from Saigon to Honshu. Until now, these have been loading correctly, but the third in the series exhibits a very odd loading pattern, as shown in the attached image, taken after the convoy has got under way and has reached a point just east of Cam Ranh Bay.

I've combined a shot of the whole convoy and a representative image of one of its ship's loading state. Note that although the convoy was instructed to load resources (don't think I mistakenly clicked the wrong button), it has apparently ended up loading supply. There's something wrong about the TF display, in that it shows these big ships loaded with only 107 or 96 units of supply and 200 units of petroleum product (is it oil or is it fuel?), yet they are all shown as loaded to 99-100% capacity.

Moreover, the representative image of Amagisan Maru contradicts the info. on the TF screen by suggesting she's fully laden in all three categories: cargo, fuel/oil AND troops! And I really am sure that I'm not silly enough to have selected an LCU for loading aboard a CS resource convoy!

So I think something distinctly odd is going on here, but I have no idea what. I have put aside a save of the game in this state, but have no save from any earlier turns when the TF was still loading at Saigon.

Any thoughts on what is taking place?

As a follow-up, I noticed that the next TF in this Saigon-Honshu sequence started to load resources under human control, and was converted by me into a CS convoy once fully loaded with resources at Saigon. When I had cycled through to the 'CS: Hiroshima/Kure' option, I noted that by default the TF became treated as a supply CS convoy, notwithstanding that it was already fully laden with resources. I then had to cycle the 'CS for' button until it displayed 'CS for Resources'.

It occurs to me that this behaviour may be connected with the odd loading information forming the subject of my first post, though I see no reason why it should have suggested that any troops were aboard the convoy. Possibly the supply shown in the first post was what went aboard to 'top off' the resources cargo when I made the TF into a CS TF, and beneath those supplies lay the resources forming the majority of the cargo previously loaded. Seem to recall encountering this before, though the 'full troop load' indicated for Amagisan Maru still makes no sense.

Just a thought, but if a TF has already been (partially) loaded with resource/supply/whatever at the time it gets converted into a CS-type TF, would it not be more intuitive if the underlying code worked on the assumption that the CS type to be assigned to the TF should by default be for the same type of cargo as that already loaded, rather than defaulting to supply?

<edit> Now ascertained that there were resources loaded beneath the 'top layer' of supply, and that by default a TF converted to CS type seems to become a CS type for whatever is already loaded. I may have not noticed this when setting this TF up originally, and also failed to notice that I had erroneously set it to be a 'CS for Supply' TF. So the only remaining oddity is Amagisan Maru being indicated as having a full troop load. </edit>

When a ship has troop capcity, it will put supplies into that space if not occupied by actual troops.

What is showing on the first screen is either supply OR resource (orange supply).
I expect that the ship has some resources in addition to the 107 supply on board, and it should unload both supply and resources.

There are two ways of seeing this.
1. Hover the mouse over the end 4313 and 321 on the ship screen. It will tell you what makes this up.
2. Hover the mouse over the TF on the map and it will show you the detailed load.
I did this on my latest beta when I ran a test to verify what I see above.

You'r correct it has been caused by changing horse mid-race.

[Edit]
I only found out about option 1 recently by accident while playing a test game. But it very handy confirmation as to what it where.

Yup, on Amagisan Maru cargo space was fully loaded with resources, tanks with oil, and the troop space had been fulled with 107 supplies: exactly one-third of its 321 troop capacity, and this accounts for the supply load shown on the task force screen.

Serves me right for not paying proper attention when setting this up, but both of these methods for checking the detailed composition of the load are extremely useful - thank you very much, Michael!
