Soviet Support Units - Probably Obvious Question - 3/16/2011 1:53:25 AM

I'm in the middle of my second PBEM game (both as Soviets), and one thing consistently baffling to me is when and why my support units show up in combat (or which ones). Generally my units are always within support range of their HQ, the HQs tend to not be overloaded, but at best all my brigades and divisions receive in support are a handful of AA units...regardless of how much artillery or other support is in the Army HQ. Am I missing something here? Does non-AA support only support attacks?

Any input would be appreciated.

Poor results from leader die roll?  Soviets have lots of poor leaders at Army level.

I guess its possible, although it seems to span across HQs and commanders. Very frustrating because it seems to make irrelevant which support units you put in a given HQ.

Maybe cut down on what can be selected will help? If a given army just has "good" SU's to pick from, then if a unit gets help from a SU, it won't be a crappy SU. Would you rather have a sapper regiment helping or a AA battalion?
