On the political front, the newly inaugurated President Hoover has not yet communicated his "New Vision" of how the War with Japan will be either prosecuted or brought to "a righteous and honorable end" as he mentioned on the dais at the Inauguration. The American Public and Press seem to be giving the New Administration the proverbial benefit of the doubt. However, with the carryover of many in The Cabinet from The Coolidge Administration, some are doubtful that anything will change.

These CVs were searching for the USN BCs after last turn's naval battle. Instead, they found a crippled DD, which was quickly dispatched. Unfortunately, now the US Navy knows exactly where my CVs are, their escorts, etc. This is particularly dangerous considering the USN aircraft outrange the IJN's by 2:1 to 3:1. High price to pay for a little DD.

Unfortunately I lost all that when my computer crashed earlier this year - all I have to go on is Combat Reports and Screenshots I had backed up. It is late in the game, Japan is at war with the USA, DEI, France, and China. Much of interior China has been conquered, even though Swatow is on the coast. It was primarily a diversionary attack hoping to take the heat off other fronts. The Phillipines, Wake, Guam, all of Indochina (except 1 base), all of Java, most of Sumatra, and many other DEI bases have been taken. The UK and Commonwealth are neutral, though very hostile to Japan.

On the water, Japan's main battle fleet is intact, minus 2 BBs (Mutsu, Kaga) and a BC (Amagi), though most of its pre-dreadnoughts were recently lost. The most powerful weapon Japan has right now, however, are the 4 CVs. The USA has taken heavy losses, but their nearly endless supply of reinforcements, as well as the numerous insanely advanced aircraft which began to appear in 1928 is taking its toll. The USA has taken Bonin and Pagan, and turned them into major bases. And a major move is now being made on the Marshall Islands.

In this game, I converted most of my large AKs, mostly to AMCs but with some ARs, AVs, and ADs as well. This was mostly due to the submarine war off Japan's coast, as well as Japan's need to have a set of eyes almost everywhere. My sea-lift capabilities were definably affected by this. I'm not completely sold on Q-ships, but I can see some circumstances where they may be handy against subs.

Conversions can only take place at Mare Island or Osaka. AMCs can be best summed up as doing a little bit of everything, but not exceptionally good at anything.

The damage I took really wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't for the fact that what should have been a glorious, all-out CV vs. CV battle, the first in this game, basically turned into target practice for the Americans, using my most experienced and effective ships. This is where I have a major issue with WPO, and I've already complained quite a bit about the insanely overpowered US aircraft. The US outranges my aircraft 2 to 3 times, so even though my CVs reacted to the US CVs, they just couldn't reach them to launch a counterattack. I really don't think the same Japanese who would launch the Pearl Harbor attack only 12 years would have allowed themselves to fall so far behind in 1929, particularly in wartime. The 1MF fighters are only maginally improved over the same fighters which fought in World War I! Needless to say, it's not much fun for the Japanese player, or I'd imagine for the Allies really, when the US CVs turn into death stars in 1928 with planes that can destroy everything in a 2-3 hex radius without even worrying about a counterattack.

Totally. At this phase of the game, 1929, due to overwhelming Allied airpower I'm relying on fast light forces for nighttime hit and run attacks. I had some success with that, but of course, that drew his attention so he had heavier forces hunting mine. It was inevitable that at some point I'd hit the wrong place at the wrong time.
