Torpedo's do hit subs but its very very rare. I vaguely recall seeing it happen once. I love when capital ships find defenseless convoy's

It certainly was surprising - it looked like the DD and SS were engaged in a surface battle - the sub was forced to the surface, maybe? Then when I saw the torpedo hit I sort of had a "did that really just happen?" moment. Afterwards, the combat report confirmed it indeed did.

And yes, dropping in on a convoy with overwhelming firepower is definately an enjoyable experience . Unless the convoy is yours . It happens a lot more often when you play against the computer.

During a private, informal lunch, the head of the Italian League of Nations delegation says to the U.S. representative “Strictly off the record, my government is growing increasingly concerned over the mounting US losses in this Great Pacific War. While the US has undoubtedly made some courageous gains in the past few months, they have come at great cost, and we fear the balance of power may be irrevocably shifted in the Eastern Pacific if this bloodshed continues much longer. Italy values its ongoing friendship with the United States, and of course we are one of the few remaining nations which still have cordial relations with the Japanese Empire. With this in mind, Il Duce would like to consider hosting a peace conference in Rome. But before we approach Japan he would appreciate knowing the American position on this matter. Shall we give you time to discuss this with your government, and meet here again in three days, or simply pretend this conversation never happened?”

After the desert cart had passed, and once the brandy selection was sampled, the USA Diplomat responded (off the record, of course) to his luncheon host. "Both myself and my country appreciate Italia's peace feelers and integrity at this point in time. However, in light of the fact that most of the military setbacks and ship losses have been purposely kept from the American Public by the Administration, there would be a complete crisis of confidence in the Government if the truth were to somehow be known. Therefore, I must regretfully decline Italy's offer at this time. However, should Japan be willing to consider vacating its ill-gotten Philippine possessions, I would be glad to act as a conduit for such communication in the future"

(Sniff!) he just wants a little respect! So much for copying Teddy Roosevelt's winning the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping a Japanese war!

So I decide to park some BCs and CLs at Weda to prey on Allied shipping in the eastern part of the Dutch East Indies. Unfortunately, I failed to take into consideration that it is within range of US aircraft at Menado. So for 3 days I get to watch the US level bombers use my prized BCs for target practice. Fortunately none of the the hits were serious, but it certainly wasn't a smart move on my part.
