All those kates downed were based at Vella La vella...they kept performing ASW duties and got bucthered by my CAP over my fleet at Rekata...

Hi DOCUP,

the Kuriles are partially fortified and partially not. Thinking about it...

To finish the speech about the Hairy Bull operation... now i have ashore enough of everything to take the base with ease even without air support. 56k supplies are with the troops and his strenght is nowhere close to give me any problem. So we'll halt the landings and send our ships back to safety. Precisely, our APA/AKA and LSTs will move back to Ndeni, with a strong ASW escort (i foresee a global sub offensive for tomorrow), while the less valuable ships will be moved to Tulagi, where a strong CAP umbrella (aided by Auki CAP) will be ordered.
Our CVs will move back, while our surface forces will get to Tulagi, leaving behind only a couple of DD divisions and some PTs.
I don't know i Rader will committ his anti-naval air assets once again...maybe he'll do with a limited range...don't know...however we'll keep a decent LRCAP over Rekata, while the rest of our fighters will guard the TLT position...and if my ships coming back from Rekata will act as baits...the better!

For what concerns Treasury...i see two viable options...both risky and expensive.
The first implies the will to try to keep Treasury as an active base. I could send there 100 fighters to provide CAP and, at the same time using 200 C-47s to bring there the needed aviation support. I will also need to send at least a DD division to defend the base from his naval bombardments... the clear risk is to lose the whole lot, so to say my fighter squadrons, the paras and whatever i bring there as a reinforcement.
The second option is to provide some decent LRCAP and try to extract with transport planes as much as possible in the next turn...knowing that i will probably be swept to oblivion first, annihilated by LBA bombers and naval bomabrdment secondly and finally butchered in terms of C-47s by his LRCAP over Treasury...

mmmm...gotta think about it twice...

That's a lot of Kates to knock down in random attacks based on proximity to your fleet. Interesting to note those are B5N1 Kates, the early version. He would have built out his remaining engines from the pool that exists at the beginning of the war, about 100 of them. You're just killed almost half of those planes, probably most of the remaining N1s he has. Not that this is incredibly remarkable, but you probably got some of his best naval ASW pilots in those if they had been around since the beginning of the game in those planes.

Let's hope so :-)

However i noticed this is a typical and repeated behaviour of Rader...he doesn't seem to care about losing planes and pilots. For example he has wasted hundreds of Jakes placing them in forward bases (like Thousands) just to get bucthered by my CAP...and this trend has been going on since the beginning...

Oh, on a side note, our beloved 79th RAAF Spit VIII squadron at PM collected its first 2 kills, shooting down 2 Rexes last turn...

I wonder if this game will grind to a sudden halt in 44 because there are no more available japanese pilot names in the database!

I don't understand how that is possible either, I thought the most you could advance a plane is 3-4 months

Isn't that due to arrive normally in 1/44? So if he's had it for a month or so it's not more than a few months advanced.

Reek, on the Treasury assault, nice job. Good use of those paras. You are really showing me some things with paras. I've never gotten deep enough into the game to have enough paras to do much with them, so this is informative. I thank you.

Now, regarding the Treasuary attack, I saw that the Japanese got a minus for "preparation". This would seem to confirm your thought that these were refugees from the lower Solomons. Interesting.

Now, about Tulagi. Someday soon, you may actaully need the troops there for OFFENSIVE action. Have you recently considered killing off those 17K starving chumps that remain there? You may be prepping the Tulagi garrison for other activities, but I would just get rid of those pests if you still have troops there prepped for Tulagi.

Bolton, my master, paras can be usefull in certain circumstances. But imho they need to be helped by the bombers.

About Tulagi...i've already moved out the 2 infantry units (the 37th and the 3rd Marine) that were defending Tulagi. They have been used recently on Auki and will soon be available for next operations. The base is guarded by a sep regiment and by 2 marine def BNs...enough

I'm not hurry to destroy those 17,000 men...they are harmless after being cut out of any supply for 12 months and after being bombed to death...but untill they are there Rader cannot rebuild his divisions...and that means 17,000 men less that i will find on my way to Japan...

Same for Thousands and Russell. My plan is to enforce a total blocackade and bomb them to starvation...but i won't invade them...need to jump forward

Now...what to do with Treasury?..still undecided.... Any thoughts?

Are you 100% positive it was Ki-100-I "Tony/Hien"? Thats a 3/45 plane. Not a particularly good one, like a heavily armed service rating 1 Ki-61 and as such nowhere as good as Ki-84, in actual combat at least...

Ok. Interesting - you're not seeing any Ki-61s but a plane they upgrade to far in the future if the plane hadnt been accelerated. Looks like Rader has chosen the Ki-100 to be his service rating 1 frontline fighter for the late war instead of Ki-44-IIc or some other design, and that he keeps building both the service rating 1 fighters as well as the high performance service rate 3 ones. You can probably expect to see the N1K2-J soon...

Yep, using FT and air transport, he can never pull out his heavy equipment. Even with most all the infantry saved, a infantry division is very weak without heavy support.

Greyjoy, Goodenough and or Kiriwina are good places to take and hold. Milne bay is a great forward naval base and I found holding these two bases support Milne bay and with mines, help block naval bombardments of Milne.

Are you using the betas? There was a bug with one of the mid patches (somewhere around p) where I think the Japanese player could exploit it and rapidly advance plane research. You should ask Rader it he did this.

Operational head-fake. He wants GJ to send his 4Es to India and away from other places.

I'm surprised at this late date anyone even tries this sort of cheese.

It very well could. I just remember he asked how to get rid of PT boats a while back.... and now this.. so that is what I thought it was again.

Reek, you have earned a week out of the dungeon with recent play despite my disagreement on Meruaka Is.. Here's your collar, go sleep with the girls. Here, put this flea medicine behind your neck. It will help with those infernal pests.

Now, you ask for some advice re Treasuries. Hummm, too bad you mean the island sort as I have a lot more advice about T bonds and bills that might come in handy for ruling an empire...but, that is for aother day. So, now that you have achieved a level of momentum and you have your worthy opponent at least seemingly a bit off balance in the Solomons I will offer this:

1. Maintain your momentum where you have the strength to do so. That is; reinforce success. I would not necessarily put much into the Treasuries, but continue your tactical by-passes in the Solomons as quickly as you can. Of courde, it goes without saying you need to avoid the KB/LBA combo that can hurt your carefully hoarded CV fleet.

2. Maybe Choiseul should follow Rekata after Rekata is built to 3+ and operational. Your LBA umbrella has been very successful in warding off harm from hundreds of LYB air attacks. Also, get those paras ready for a drop on Buka, Green Island or Feni Is. Don't tarry on these as you have him in a bit of a scramble as he tries to establish his next MLR (probably Kavieng, Rabual, Gasmata and one of the bases on the north coast of New Guinea. However, he will not have prepped his LCUs much for those bases if you act relatively fast.

2. Thinking longer term, I still like the Solomons, Bismarck Sea and north New Guinea coastal approach to the Phillipines....boringly historical, I know, but they went that way for a reason.

3. And thinking even further, the advise others have given you about opening different approach routes to the HIs is sound. But, I would stay clear of large fleet commitments to the DEI interior until much later in the game for the reasons CR elicted earlier. Nonetheless, Burma and/or the Aleutians or central Pacific are all in play. Like one commentator said. A strong presence in Burma is going to make India a less appealing place to have 400,000+ IJA troops sitting around.

4. Do some reconning on Gasmata and see what is there. It's still a possibility alothough it is likely to now be part of his next MLR and not as inviting as it was previously.

5. Keep in mind you are approaching 44. Time and numbers are not currently on your side, but you are playing the clock much better these days. Do not lose your momentum.

Good luck, Reek....and do take this old, soiled tunic and blanket with you to the kennels. Its a cold night...you could catch a chill. Say hello to the girls and don't fight them so hard for those bones. The girls need to keep their strength up too, you know.

Now, run along, I have other pressing matters to attend....and winter is coming.

Guys, again i'm amazed by your contributions to this match...thanks for being here and for sharing all your wise thoughts!

I don't think Rader is refering to our game in his thread about ground bombing...i haven't used that option so far...the opposite: he has done it extensively in India when hordes of 300 helens smashed my retreating units...i've lost several indian divisions in that way...

Anyway, talking about strategies...

We have taken our decision. I agree with Princeps Bolton: i have to keep the momentum. Luckly enough i've been prepping well, so i have another corp 100% ready for Munda, another one for Choiseul Bay and one for Torokina...but the closer we get to Bouganville, the more threatening will be the KB+LBA...

We decided to move everything back. Old BBs, DDs and precious ships (APA, AKA, LSD) will move back to Ndeni along with our CVEs.
Our strongest SCTF will escort the remaining of our invasion fleet back to Tulagi where a HUGE CAP will be covering.
Waves of PTs will be checking every single water hex, along with our subs that will form a defensive screen from Rekata down south.
Strong Air ASW assets are ordered in the whole area.
CVs will move between Karaikira and Lunga...in a position to aid the local TLT CAP or to be aided by it in case he sends his waves against my retreating ships.
2 DD Divisions will sweep Treasury...let's see if i can avoid a naval bombing...
100 P-47s will sweep Treasury to clear the skies, followed by my transport planes that will get the paras back to Lunga...

Rekata Bay should fall tomorrow...

...GOSH!...i just realized that you cannot sweep your own base......****! I've just lost 5 para units and an infinite number of transports... Oh Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Can i break the pc-screen with a fist!?...**** **** **** **** **** **** ****

IMHO Rader will have no choice but to counter-attack at the Treasuries. If he lets you keep that base he risks you building it up and smashing Rabaul and Kavieng. As noted, this won't be easy for you to do given that the base is isolated, but I doubt Rader can take the chance. Watch for bombardment TFs and set traps accordingly.

Unfortunately mate the mistake i've just made has already vanished the chance...along with the lost of nearly 200 transport planes...priceless asset... a stupid mistake...just one...and your plan goes into the toilet

He will sweep Treasury, LRCAP it in order to deny me any reinforcement and, finally vaporize my paras with hundreds of Helens...pretty sure it will happen like this...

Ok, let's forget Treasury and start back thinking about Rekata and ontong Java...

Reek, has the thing w/ the transports actually happened or are you just afraid it will happen? If it does happen, I want that collar back. Get Rekata AF up and running ASAP and cover your paras on the Treasuries. It will be shameful to lose those guys now. Hope the fates smile on you yet again.

I'm afraid it will happen...pretty sure it will...

Yes, Rekata will be ours within the next turn...then we'll base several fighters there and will try to cover Treasury and save what can be saved (i'll be forced to use catalinas cause i fear there won't be anymore a practicable AF in 2 days from now...and also because i won't have a transport fleet anymore)... I was more focused on putting my fleet in safe waters than about treasury...and that's the result.
Oh well...let's just see what happens... we need to start prepping for the next operation asap!
