Jun 18, 19 1943 Again my response was too late to bother Rader. He has been again one step forward me His CAs (that were in a fast transport mission) stayed only the first night and then fled away. My BBs arrived at Thousands ships bay only on the second night (why not on the first morning as planned is out of my comprehension) and found only a couple of LB TFs....quite an overkill if you ask me.... however we managed to kill on ships nearly 3000 men...which is something at least. My Australia TF tangled with his CAs....we delivered a couple of non penetrating hits, while his 20cm cannons always penetrate.... however i managed to get away without too many damages and at least 3 of his DDs suffered bad collisions during the combat and one should have sunk already... Our 4Es arrived in good numbers over Thousands Ships bay but somehow their efficiency sucked today, destroying only 24 planes on the ground...anyway not a bad day in the air. Our escort prooved strong enough not to suffere that much against a stiff and numerous CAP. 17k men remaining at Tulagi...he's succeeding. There seems to be no way for me to stop this daily bleeding. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Time Surface Combat, near Tulagi at 114,137, Range 6,000 Yards Japanese Ships PB Kaisho Maru LB-210 LB-213, Shell hits 1, and is sunk LB-217 LB-1201, Shell hits 1, and is sunk LB-1202, Shell hits 1, and is sunk LB-1203, Shell hits 1, and is sunk LB-1204, Shell hits 1, and is sunk LB-1206, Shell hits 1, and is sunk LB-1207, Shell hits 2, and is sunk LB-1208, Shell hits 1, and is sunk LB-1209 LB-1210 LB-1211, Shell hits 2, and is sunk LB-1213, Shell hits 1, and is sunk LB-1214 LB-1215 LB-1216, Shell hits 1, and is sunk LB-1217 SC CHa-34, Shell hits 11, heavy fires, heavy damage SC CHa-35 SC CHa-39, Shell hits 1 SC CHa-43 SC CHa-45, Shell hits 5, heavy fires Allied Ships PT-148 PT-179 PT-234 PT-251 PT-258 PT-277 PT-281 PT-284 PT-296 PT-339 PT-342, Shell hits 1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Time Surface Combat, near Tulagi at 114,137, Range 11,000 Yards Japanese Ships CA Takao CA Atago, Shell hits 1 CA Maya CA Chokai, Shell hits 5 CA Myoko, Shell hits 1 CA Mikuma CA Suzuya, Shell hits 2 CA Kinugasa CL Abukuma, Shell hits 1 DD Shimakaze DD Tamanami DD Kuroshio DD Natsushio DD Shiranui DD Nowaki DD Arashi DD Tanikaze DD Shinonome DD Asagiri, Shell hits 1 DD Sagiri DD Akebono DD Arikaze DD Hikokaze DD Susukaze Allied Ships CA Australia, Shell hits 4, heavy fires CL Richmond CL Trenton, Shell hits 1, on fire DD Abbot DD Aulick DD Bache DD Chevalier, Shell hits 1, on fire DD Conway DD Blue DD Jarvis DD Craven, Shell hits 2, on fire Japanese ground losses: 28 casualties reported Squads: 1 destroyed, 1 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Thousand Ships Bay , at 114,136 Weather in hex: Overcast Raid spotted at 39 NM, estimated altitude 14,000 feet.
