Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is a limit on how big you can make a unit? For example, some of the Chinese divisions have about 900 devices on some of their lines. What would happen if a unit went over 1,000? Would that crash the game?

I'm asking because in my desire to make my scenario a little easier on the micro management, I've combined some Chinese units TOE's so I have fewer units to keep track of. I'm seeing the game freeze up when an air group of Sonia's is attacking the same chinese base with one of these LCU's. I can't figure it out. I'd ask Michael to take a look at it, but it's a user modified scenario and he probably needs to spend time on the game bugs, not my bugs.

I've seen discussion of supply sucking LCU's to help reduce the amount of supply in the game. I assume these units would have a gazillion devices. But, they'd be unlikely to be bombed by Sonia's. So, just want to check and see if anyone has noticed weird things when you get devices over 1,000.

Thanks, Brad

I think you'd be good to around 32,000.  At least the variable that holds the devices can go that large.  There is a possibility that the number of devices is compared to something in the code that expects it to be less.  Your problem may come from some check or comparison on the device that expects it to be no larger than some number.

If you want to test it, you can create a sandbox scenario.  Basing a sandbox on the Coral Sea scenario is the easiest since it's small and turns will process quickly.  Create a large land unit then bomb it and see if the same behavior happens.  If it does, you can experiment reducing the number of devices until the problem doesn't happen.

Thanks Bill. I think I had some other program running that was interfering with AE. I spent some time cleaning up my computer because it just started running slow. The game doesn't freeze up at that point anymore. So, dunno what it was for sure.
