Since loading 4.5 I have had a large number of incidents where the game crashes to desktop (actually to the SPWaW menu). Rec3ent example was when loading a saved game (part of WF). Enter human deploy (to check that it was the correct save game), exit deployment, then when I hit start it crashed. This doesn't happen all the time, and because I haven't started pulling my hair in frustration I don't think it has hit me when I have played for a while without saving - able to restart from basically wehere I was with the latest save game. I don't remember having this crash problem in 4.4 (although I did read that others were having problems).

I've not had it crash to the desktop of its own volition, but I've had to crash it there myself because SPWAW hangs. DFW

WB, I'm still playing from the CD I got via you and the game crashes to the desktop once every few hours. It seems to have no pattern. Sometimes its while I am moving and sometimes during the AI's turn. There is no corrupted memory and the game can be restarted (some programs will not restart after a crash until you reboot the system). ------------------ An old soldier but not yet a faded one. OK, maybe just a bit faded.

I have had it happen to me a few times with 4.5. Never did with any other version. Haven't a clue why...

? and again ? As I tried to figure out editors at the game I found out myself often at the desktop. I have sort of list of what not to do if you want to stay out of desktop. I have thought they are commonly known errors so I've kept myself quiet on this. Is this map-thing-error well known or should I post my notes here? let me know. mosh

It is odd, because the crashing to desktop began when I installed ver.4.4. I uninstalled and went back to ver. 4.3b. It was very stable. Another interesting note. The maps and scenarios that been overwritten by later patches returned at 4.3b. troopie ------------------ Pamwe Chete

I have had a rare occasional crash but nothing of the intensity you guys have had. Try (as usual) removing that tricky steel.prf file when it happens and see if that resolves it. I am looking for the problem, fellas....WB ------------------ In Arduis Fidelis Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games

Don't know, maybe I'm just lucky, but I haven't had ANY crashes at all!! And that's with a modified exe. in the one install(other than the steel prf. needing to be deleted every time)?! ------------------ Mike Amos Meine Ehre Heisst Treue

I had some crash downs playing version 4.5. The game suddenly stops and appears a pop window that says “you have less than 5mg free memory”. I have a Pentium III, 8 GB disc and 128 RAM. 76% system sources free at the moment that I start my PC. So I don’t think that could be a lack memory problem.

Works for me. <<<<<<<< I just had it crash to desktop when I was trying to save a map. troopie <<<<<<<<< If you try to save a map in other place than in the 'editor/edit map/' it crashes in mostly. Rename/place them with editor. <<<<<<<<<<<<<< I've noticed that turning this background music off have stabilised game. From 4.3 to 4.5. If I have it hanged or crashed during playing I just turn that off and it doesn't do it again. I have studiostuff as my soundcards. just trying to help mosh

Had another crash - had just finished a battle in WF (2nd battle, completed in one go without any saves) - went throught the fix and upgrade screens and then hit save game. Entered new file name, hit button to save it and the game crashed. Restarted SPWAW and looked at saved games. The file name I had just saved showed up - opening it revealed it was the save file for the game/battle completed (playable, not corrupted). This suggests that crashing occurs when files are opeded/closed.

I was in the edit maps screen. I clicked on the save map icon. It dropped me in the save maps list. I picked an empty slot, wrote in the name and hit enter. It crashed to the desktop. Can someone tell me how to avoid this in the future? Dankie, troopie ------------------ Pamwe Chete

I've also apparently suffered a game crash as well. I didn't realize it was a crash at the time because my Norton Antivirus started a scan. That seemed odd to me because I shut off all running programs in my task bar before playing any games. It appears that the crash activates Norton even when it is disabled!! The crash is to the SPWAW scenarios screen. I can turn Norton back off and then click on the SPWAW program button at the bottom of the screen and I'm back in the scenario where I was so rudely interupted! This has happened a few times in version 4.4 and 4.5. I don't know if I would call it a crash but more of an interuption. I play quite a few other games but have never experianced this problem with them. Well problem solvers I hope this helps.

Finally got 4.5 to work in the map edit screen. I deleted the program. Re-installed 4.0 (Dankie Nikademus!) then upgraded to 4.3b. Played that for a few days. Then I deleted the steel prf.file and all my saves. Then I reinstalled 4.4 and 4.5. The map edit worked with no crash. troopie ------------------ Pamwe Chete
