I've been a fan of Matrix games for some years and have bought numerous games. With Digitalriver I never had any problems but now the new world of Plimus has me totally frustrated. This may not be the right place to air my frustration but I just do not know what else to do.

I've been trying to buy Combat Command for about three weeks. I go to the store and complete the payment information but when I click the 'Next' button, the process stalls - the blue progress bar gets about half way. I don't think it is a security issue - all Matrix sites are designated as 'Trusted' and the asppropriate protocols are in place. To be on the safe side, I deleted all cookies and browsing history, but I still can get no further than the 'Next' button.

I asked Plimus for help on 18 April and got the standard reply to expect a response in one business day.
Nothing came so sent a reminder on 23 April. Got a quick reply to the reminder asking for more info as I'd put no details in the reminder.

On 26 April got a reply to my original enquiry suggesting I ring the California office. As I'm a resident of the UK I passed on that option. A further email on 27 April suggested I use another browser. IE has always worked well for me, however I tried Firefox on a different machine and got exactly the same issue.

Early in the process I also put up a plea for help to the Matrix helpdesk. It remains there open as a monument to my failed optimism.

Can anyone suggest how I might get this game. Unless this is sorted it looks like I'm not going to be able to buy any further games which would be a disaster for me.

It's not location; I bought CC (and a couple of others) via Plimus from the UK with no trouble. Usually changing browser does do the trick, particularly starting with something other than IE, but that's obviously not the case here. As you tried not only another browser but another machine with it, it's hard to think of anything else.

You don't mention disabling your firewall(s) and AV long enough to try the transaction? Might be worth a go, as might trying another card (or Paypal) if you have one. If all else fails, just buy the hard copy from NWS. I've bought loads of stuff from them over the years and none have taken more than a week to reach ol' Blighty. Be prepared to fork out extra on receipt though. NWS don't charge VAT at source (turnover being too small, presumably) but games are liable to VAT and (a little) import duty and you may find yourself having to pay that over before postie will hand over the package. I say 'may', relatively few small value items get picked up in practice.

Stick with it. Despite a relatively low profile, CC is rapidly becoming one of my favourite Matrix titles.

I recently bought the game via download.

Interent Explorer will not work!

Mozilla Firefox works.  Another browser might or might not work.

Many thanks for the replies, particularly for the heads up re NWS. Haven't seen this site before but looks a good source.

I tried Firefox - didn't work for me. Maybe I'll have a go at Google Chrome. Failing that I'll buy from NWS I think.

I am very curious as to why IE does not work and, probably it's just me, but I can't help a feeling of disappointment at what I would call a lack of support.

Safari on MacBook Pro downloaded this great. I am finally getting to reading manual and playing first scenario. This fine game reminds me some of Tigers on the Prowl and Panthers in the Shadows?? 2 great DOS titles I wish someone would bring back to life. I love tactical level hex based counter games like this. Thanks to regulars in forum for their posts - reading them over morning coffee really gets one in mood (and more educated) to play. As I get into it more and answer enough of my own questions by reading and playing reading and playing I may ask for some help and info from all the kind and knowledgeable mates here. Thanks all for a great game and enjoyable forum. Budas I hope you find a browser that works - not bring able to download games would be a disaster for me too. One of the pleasures of life.

I use Safari on Windows after using it at my Daughter's house on her Mac. It uses a lot less resources than any browser that I have tried. Almost nothing when minimized.

Sound like Plimus/Matrix really need to get to grips with this.  I use Firefox, but I can't believe a problem with IE would be widespread or we would have howls of discontent all over.  Enough now use Chrome that the same is probably true of that.  Budas, was the second machine you tried one of your own (or wife, kids etc), or something completely independent like a works PC?  If the former, I'd suspect the issue is something common to both the machines, possibly even your router's firewall?

I used IE 8 with Win 7 last week and had no problems downloading. though perhaps being in US might help. With the multitude of different security settings in firewalls, AV checkers and filters and even in the Browsers themselves, I'm sometimes surprised when things do get through.

Thanks

Just choose run instead of save...

Same thing happened to me several times. Run has worked in every case, but if I chose save, it would just sit there and never down load.

Once again, thanks all for your interest and sympathy. It's a shame that Plimus and Matrix remain silent.

The second machine I tried was another of my own, so I do feel that it could be a router issue but I still am flummoxed that there is a problem only with Plimus and I would like to get to the bottom of it. Unless it can be sorted future purchases are at threat.

This is the type of game I love to play - if it were any other than that, I would probably have given up in disgust by now.

why not head over to starbucks or some other wifi site (maybe a friend's house) and try it there? That would eliminate your network and maybe even get you the game?? Only 24 mb.

Well I really wanted a solution. If I can't get one, the problem is likely to follow me to my next and future Matrix purchases. In fact I now have an answer of sorts. I visited my local friendly computer store and their guru explained the problem at some length. Unfortunately my eyes glazed over amidst talk of handshakes and protocols etc. To me, handshakes are a form of greeting - the forerunner of high fives if you will, and protocols are rules most likely to inhibit my meeting Prince William for a pint.

It seems, however, that there is a setting in my router which does not like Plimus - I share the feeling. The solution suggested was to pay said guru large amounts of cash to come and fix it. My solution was to eliminate the router.

I do now have the game and I just know I'm going to love it. The unanswered question remains - why does my router interfere with Plimus and not with any other purchase I make on the internet and recently these have been many and varied,

Bud

LOL... spot the wargamer!

Probably the easiest and simplest solution. I don't think any sort of attempt at remote support from Plimus would have ended up in anything other than frustration. Maybe, now you have the problem pinned down, the router manaufacturer's support people could let you know what to do about that particular setting (without forking out for that 'guru')?

Hope you enjoy the game.

I'll be disappointed if you say that you never got a reply from Matrix help desk. Wonder if your router ate their email?

I think that I will revel in this game. It is exactly what I like in a wargame. I am in touch with router support but I have a horrible feeling that they will suggest the solution should come from Plimus. Oh well.

Many thanks for you support - it is greatly appreciated.

-junk2drive - I am extremely disappointed that nothing is forthcoming from Matrix Helpdesk. In all fairness, however, I don't believe Matrix could themselves come up with a solution. I think what I expected from them was a little pressure on Plimus to sort something out.

Although I am mightily pleased to have the game, the fact is that there is still a problem and it is likely that I'm not the only one experiencing it. There is an issue here which could be preventing the sale of games. I would have thought that that would be of concern to Matrix.
