Allies June 19 update: Lots of action around Guam and Rota today. Area waters: (see map below). Tojo moves ships to Yap, presumably for a run in to Guam in the morning. I respond by stopping the unloading process and ordering all TFs a few hexes away. I doubt he'll have enough movement points to react into the new location from Yap, even on full speed in one phase. In any case, I've ordered a stout surface force to the area to cover this rally point. BB New Mexico joins with the rest of Bull Halsey's old BBs (now at 4) in the SCTF running cover. In the waters around Guam, another 3 Japanese RO-class submarines (no more midgets today) are messily dispatched. One of them got off a 6-torpedo spread on CV Yorktown before being pummeled. By Marcus, a sub puts a tin fish into BB Mushashi. Looks like the Japanese are swinging wide around the expected exclusion zone and will then swing south. I've split off a few picket DDs and also ordered the fleet CVs to take a look see in the area. It looks like he's trying a 1-2 split approach for an SCTF intercept of my ships in theatre. My hope is that my CV strike forces deal with the eastermost prong of that attack and let the western prong swing at nothingness around Guam. Several TFs finish unloading from Guam or Rota and are ordered back-with waypoints-to Eniwetok. He has a few bombers at Truk now, so I may get a few long-distance naval attacks from there in the next couple days. Guam: Unloading continues to go well. 2nd Marine Div and 4th Marine Regiment are both ashore, along with beaucoup support. There's plenty of supply there for a couple turns too. The unload of the 2nd Mar Div and company occured just in time. An ill-advised Banzai attack ended very badly for the Japanese: Ground combat at Guam (106,95) Japanese Shock attack Attacking force 21201 troops, 192 guns, 36 vehicles, Assault Value = 827 Defending force 34179 troops, 661 guns, 834 vehicles, Assault Value = 1086 Japanese adjusted assault: 333 Allied adjusted defense: 2031 Japanese assault odds: 1 to 6 Combat modifiers Defender: terrain(+), experience(-) Attacker: shock(+) Japanese ground losses: 4141 casualties reported Squads: 184 destroyed, 129 disabled Non Combat: 98 destroyed, 63 disabled Engineers: 16 destroyed, 4 disabled Guns lost 16 (14 destroyed, 2 disabled) Vehicles lost 45 (45 destroyed, 0 disabled) Units destroyed 2 Allied ground losses: 473 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 13 disabled Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 76 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled Vehicles lost 25 (1 destroyed, 24 disabled) Assaulting units: 48th Ind.Mixed Brigade 52nd/B Division II./9th Tank Regiment I./9th Tank Regiment 29th Division 10th Infantry Brigade 54th Naval Guard Unit 10th Infantry Bde /2 61st Air Flotilla 60th Field AA Battalion 25th JAAF AF Bn Defending units: 4th Marine Rgt /1 22nd Marine Rgt /1 708th Amphib Tank Battalion 2nd USMC Tank Battalion 706th Tank Battalion 305th Regimental Combat Team 2nd Marine Div /1 V US Amphib Corps /1 318th Fighter Group III US Amphib Corps 98th Coast AA Regiment 112th USA Base Force 39th Aviation Base Force / Rota: Rota falls to shock attack today. WTF? Alright, we're going to have a small scale war down here, I guess. I'll put my Fletcher DDs against whatever rustbucket he's got in theatre. I order 3 DDs on an intercept course with large react orders.
