Gents,

American baseball teams traditionally form a "kangaroo court," a fun tribunal made up of respected vets who levy "fines" (nominal sums like 25 cents) for making mistakes ranging from errors on the field to faux paus in front of a camera to bad attire.

AE needs a kangaroo court to levy "fines" for players who make egregious mistakes like launching an amphibious invaison made up of TFs with troops in strategic mode, allowing important ships to run out of fuel and accrue excessive SYS damage, beating up with no mercy on a newbie, improperly explaining rules, or getting married at middle age when your biggest responsibility to that point was figuring out how many hours a day you weren't going to play AE in an undershirt while drinking a cold beverage.

So, this thread is for folks to nominate forumites who need "punishment" for infractions of this sort.

Nobody is in charge of this thread - including me - so anybody can chime in. Later, if it catches on, the forum can elect judges to sit on the tribunal if so they desire.

Yours humbly (but in a winsome and alluring way),

Canoerebel

Great idea, but who would ever admit they let the QE pass through the SW pacific unescorted and run into a pair for raiding CA's. I would never, ever admit that here.

Or, admit that they left a tanker TF on fast so it ran out of fuel in the mid Pacific with some of them sinking due to massive sys damage. Nope, I um..can't really say I know anybody who would do something like that......

Neither do I know of anybody who loaded the wrong marine division onto his Amphibious TF and then proceeded to land them at the enemy controlled but unoccupied Lunga. Only to see 65% of the troops disrupt. Nope, nobody comes to mind there either.....

But, boy if I ever hear of somebody ever doing these things I will let you know...

Oh, I know a guy who once sent a USN CVE fleet from Seattle to Christmas Island thinking the TF had plenty of fuel for that little "hop."  When the TF hadn't "shown up" at Christmas Island about two weeks later, said Allied player found it somewhere southeast of Pearl Harbor, out of fuel and with five or six CVEs with 55 to 75 SYS damage.  He managed to get the CVEs to Pearl where they recovered over several weeks, but it was a near thing.  I won't mention his name, but he should be assessed a fine of at least 50 Glyptos (that's the AE kangaroo court currency, equivalent to 50 cents Federal or 25 cents Confederate).

I know someone who got married just a few months before the original War in the Pacific was released.

Same person also contracted Pneumonia with complications and had to be hospitalized two days before AE was released.  He was not able to DL AE till he got out of the hospital 10 days after AE was released.  The pneumonia made his so weak that he failed in his 57 attempts at escape in order to download AE, and crashed the hospital computer system when he tried to download it on one of the hospital computers that he found unattended.

Then after it was released, he agreed to adopt a little girl not knowing that this would consume a major portion of time available to be playing AE.

Of his many and varied mistakes while playing the game, I can say nothing.  The Statute of Limitations has not run out on some, He is still in therapy to forget others and each new day reveals another new way to screw up badly.

Whoever is collecting the Glyptos is gonna be rich!

Now I always ran the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary unescorted. The escorts just slowed them down, even if they were 35 knot cruisers (that's because the Queens were designed to run full speed across the ocean whereas naval vessels were designed to run at full speed only for short periods of time).

I will admit to having once sent the Saratoga all the way to Canton Island without her air wing that I had off loaded while she was undergoing an upgrade in the shipyard. There was a week and a half wasted...

What is the fine for dropping an invasion force on a friendly dot hex, so delaying the invasion for weeks as they are reloaded onto the ships ?

Was guilty of both of that. Even allowed three of my DDs to sink from Sys damage in my first PBEM.

But my persistant stupid mistake is forgetting to order Japanese invasion TFs not to load fuel. Their fast xAKs all can carry some, and this makes them into floating bombs, rather inconvenient, when Allies try to put up a fight. Even got a transport sank by 0.5 MG once thanks to it.

GreyJoy keeps coming up with new and exciting ways to spell the names of exotic places in his "The Power of Inexperience" AAR. My favorites thus far: Scoodra, Sosarbaja and Ralpawindi.

His creativity reminds me of Inspector Clouseau's tongue-twists in one of the Pink Panther movies: "A rit of fealous jage!"

I once knew a guy back in the WITP days who sailed his six Allied carriers into a carrier fight near Lunga while forgetting to set any of his bombers to fly or fighters to CAP. I....I mean to say "he" could only imagine the delight of his opponent as he watched the replay.

I'm not 100% sure the crash-the-hospital-computer-system thing really happened, but if it did then this expderience is beyond the jurisdiction of a mere kangaroo court. That achievement is in the realm of epic-ness and that player deserves special status all his own.

Who would ever admit to sending all 3 of his US carriers to raid Rabaul in a Guadalcanal scenario early in the game only to have them run into Shokaku and be promptly sunk...

And you wonder why I never play Allies?

I know a guy who sent his CV's to raid Truk in 5th day of the war. His plan was excellent, although he forgot about this little fuel thingie. After sinking few Japanese xAP's, his carriers stopped in the middle of Solomon Islands area, just to be mercifully killed by Kido.

How much did I earn? I want to donate it to "Hopeless Allied Schmuck Fund"

Someone, maybe you know who, is now playing a PBEM as the Japanese, and hasnt been able to get Moulmein in Burma, by July 1942. He is also now planning a bomber offensive against Burma's refineries... "If I dont get them, nobody gets", he keeps repeating.

Well, the hospital computer crash may have been a figment of fever delerium or Dilaudid or wishfull thinking. And the 57 escape attampts might have been 2 {Fog of War?}with the last one being successful. As far as the description of epic-ness goes...uh...modesty and my attourney argue against comment.

Picture this:
You KNOW your opponent wants to bomb a given city, you plot a HUGE ambush, over 800 fighters, all of them armed with cannons and top-flight pilots. Your opponent's bombers appear over the city.....

... you then realise you left the 800 fighters on REST for the day. *sigh*

"Say Saburo, do you think we should see what's making those hundreds of contrails high in the sky?"

"No Tojo, our orders are to rest and damnit, that's what we're going to do, no matter what!!!"

You're welcome to your opinion Flying Tiger.

This is a humorous Kangaroo Court thread though. Lets try to keep it that way. If you want to discuss what I've quoted you can PM me, post to the Green Button thread or post to the Our Game thread. All those options would be more suitable.

I know someone who put 12 brand new shiny late 1930s model USN DD's into a TF and was going to sail them to Sydney from PH to aid in convoy protection. His plan is pretty good as he knows that they will have enough fuel if he puts them on cruise speed. Well this idiot puts them on full speed instead. They burn up all their fuel about 25 hexes NE of Suva and begin to collect system damage. He routes them to Suva and loads up a AO and two more DD at PH to meet the TF and refuel it. 9 hexes out of PH (two turns) the tanker takes 3 torpedoes and promptly sinks. He returns the DD's to PH and loads up another tanker and adds six more DD's to protect this one ship. He is hell bent of saving his TF no matter the cost. He then sends this to meet the TF in mid ocean.
The game goes several more turns. Later he checks out the situation and to his horror sees that his oiler TF was set to retirement allowed. It meet the out of fuel TF but did not refuel them and then sailed away. So he spends two more turns getting the two to finally meet and refueled. Only trouble is he has put so many DD's into the oiler TF that they have sucked away almost half of the precious fuel. The 12 DD's in the damaged TF cannot fully refuel and won't be able to make it back to PH. So he races the oiler TF back to PH only to have this TF run out of fuel too. It limps back the final two hexes and takes slight damage to all ships. He then loads up two oilers this time with fuel and 5 DD's
The damaged DD TF meanwhile is about 12 hexes out of PH but only has one more turn of fuel left. He stops it dead in the water and puts it on remain on station. Brilliant he thinks. He then moves the oiler TF out to meet the damaged TF. Unfortunatly 12 damaged DDs this close to PH attract the attention of IJN submarines. Two I-Boats attack and because of the damaged and low speed managed to sink three of the DDs
Finally the two TFs link up and refuel and as one big TF crawl back to PH.
So he is down three good DDs, has 17 damaged ones and 1 damaged oiler and 1 sunk oiler. The entire operation takes almost 5 weeks.
This brilliant Admiral received a swift promotion to a weather station in Nova Scotia.

Also let me tell you about the guy who decided to get lazy with the sub war and grouped his fleet boats with his S-Boats just to move them close to Japan before he could split them apart to their appropriate stations. Well of course the S-boats run out of fuel quickly and begin taking damage. At this stage of the war he still held Manila so he tries to move the S-Boats there to refuel. A few reach it but many do not. He loses 6 S-Boats due to flood damage.

Fallschirmjaeger's experience...wow! We've all done those kinds of things - all of us vexed to the limits of our patience - as some relatively simple procedure goes awry and then continues a cascade of misfortune, mischance, and miscalculation.

AE is a remarkably intuitive game, and yet at the same time the learning curve is immense. That means newbies can step right in and basically know what what's going on and, in general, what he needs to do...but he's not going to be able to do it with all the hidden little land mines buried in this game.

I thought I was the chief bungler of AE - a Calamity Canoe if you please - but it's great to read how so many others have done similar things.
