Thanx jwolf.....and now BB Yamato is on its last legs.....read on! 6/29-6/30/45 SUBS SS I-53 sinks LCI-783 off Wenchow. SS I-55 sinks LCI-55 off Wenchow. STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND The B-29-25s and B-29Bs execute a night manpower bombing attack on Hiroshima. A level 447,000 fire is ignited and there is still a level 31,000 fire there at the end of the turn. Meanwhile.... the B-29-1s target LI at Nagasaki in a day light attack while the SBDs of Fifth Fleet carriers target resources at Matsuyama. Japan has now lost 26,244 strategic points. Sixteen B-29s were lost....all to flak and ops as Dave has basically abandoned all his AFs in Kyushu. The B-29s will be rested next turn. Estimated time to target is 22 minutes Allied aircraft F4U-1D Corsair x 14 TBM-3 Avenger x 10 No Allied losses Japanese Ships xAP Teison Maru xAP Mizuho Maru, Bomb hits 1 Aircraft Attacking: 10 x TBM-3 Avenger bombing from 13000 feet * Naval Attack: 2 x 500 lb SAP Bomb Fifth Fleet lost another 45 TBM-3s and 53 RN Avengers last turn.... with less than 50% effective TB squadrons its time for the carriers to head back to port in the Marianas for AC replacements, re-arming and refueling. OPERATION ROLLING THUNDER The TBM-3s of Fifth Fleet leveled the Japanese AF with the dark red "X: at Osaka last turn after sweeping it with over 300 P-51Ds, P-47Ns and F4U-1Ds. Land based P-47Ns and P-51Ds also sweep Nagoya and Tokyo this turn as well as deserted Nagasaki and Kagoshima. Japan loses an astounding 516 AC in A2A combat this turn vs Allied losses of 171 AC. Overall... Japan loses 629 AC this turn so she has now lost over 3600 Ac in less than 2 weeks. For the first time in the war..... the Allies have achieved a "decisive" victory with victory points at 126,944 to 72,319. Operation Rolling Thunder will now be put on hold for a week or so as Dave has now abandoned his AFs in the southern half of Japan and Fifth Fleet must return to port to take on TBM-3 and Avenger replacements. The USAAF pilot replacement pool has been bled white by the sweeps every turn over Japan but hopefully the Japanese pilot replacement pools have been bled whiter. We still have a massive pilot pool of expert USN and USMC fighter pilots so they will have to carry on more of the air war as we enter the final 2 months of the conflict. Ive exhausted all my highly trained USN TB pilots but there isnt much of a threat left from the IJN Combined Fleet so maybe I should be training the replacement TB pilots more for ground bombing than naval torpedo bombing. This completes Army Group South's closure of the Canton pocket. Over the last couple of months....over 270,000 IJA troops were killed or captured in the Canton pocket and now another 6300 AV of Allied troops have been released from Army Group South to reinforce Army Group Center's offensive onn central and northern China. The plan is for Army Group Center to link up with Army Group North(Soviet Union) in August 1945. Dave is in full retreat mode against Army Group South as he tries to re-direct his fronts to counter the Army Group Center thrust on Suchow. Field Artillery Battalion After changing its orders to land on Luzon and then countermanding its sailing orders to land at Wenchow not once but twice.... the amphibious TF with the USMC 4th Division finally makes it ashore at Wenchow after more sub, aerial and surface attacks this turn. The USMC 4th Division has taken horrific casualties at sea and now can only muster 297 AV.... but at least its ashore and will shortly be in the battle. Tenth Air Force transport AC are conducting a massive airlift from India/Burma to bring BFs to Nanyang, Chengchow and Kaifeng in central China.
