Things have changed enough in just a couple of turns that I thought I would post a map. The IJ have been pushed into a corner. We have captured Mandalay and Magwe. I suspect the remnants will strategically redeploy to Rangoon leaving behind whatever viable forces. Taung Gvi forces are completely fresh. The Allies have one division at 80% and the rest range from 30 - 70% strength. It has been a costly campaign. We need to secure the valley before the Monsoon ..

The day after Christmas and "Skilled Hook" has accomplished its mission. The core of Burma is secure. Now it's hard fighting and rough/jungle that lies ahead. Add to that units that will withdraw, and things will desculate over the next two weeks. I suspect the IJ will lick their wounds and proceed to invest in our defeat

It takes about 1.5 months to move anything from India into Burma. We have a chance for another quick operation "Angry Shower" .. everything we can do before the monsoon ..

This fight will be more like the real life Tarawa .. certainly I think 2 more days of shock attacks .. The problem is all my poor planning for this operation. I did not use my DB's and aircraft to prepare this target enough. Plus this fortress requires at least 6 BB's to absorb the punishment of the 6" and 4" guns here. I also had a false sense of secuirty given how well the other invasions went off. Now the
USAAF and USN will have to support this mission much more rigorously and I suspect the KB will come calling ..

The picture below shows the story. We hit Milli and now have to egress out from under a picket line of submarines. It takes the KB 2 days total to get into theater so at least our CV assets have to get into the safe arms of the Patrol arcs.

The AP's have one more full day to unload .. no supplies went off so we defend for a turn while the hvy's bombard the Island from above ..

This problem at Mili is really my fault. Although all 12 ASW / escort forces seem to be ignoring the two submarines and 24 float planes working in the midst of my amphib operation .. . usually I mine as a part of the amphib operation and did not do so to discourage sticking the submarines in the same hex ..

Must remember to do so as some of the most "heroic" i.e either exterme incomptence of my ASW forces or some improbable circumstances produces these kinds of results ...

Ok we shal see what tomorrow brings I hope these AP's have offloaded by then ..

I just sent off my turn. My opponent and I got in 5 turns today! Wow!

Lots of radio traffic at Guam and Truk .. I susepct the Combined fleet is coming out to play ...

Maps tomorrow, but in Burma the IJ have drawn a defensive line as I suspect from 60K @Prome to 42K troops @Toungoo .. this will be very very difficult to break in '43.

I am satisfied with the situation in CENPAC. We need more base forces in Theater to to hold our active aircraft. Jaluit will be the next key point to capture as we can project land based dive bombers into the rest of teh Marshalls.

More later ..

I think we are set up for '43 but I do not see getting to the end game any quicker despite our advances. Basically IMHO) the reinforcement schedule dicates pace. I need Hellcats and Essex CV's to stretch the Pacific -- The KB is alive and well, and I need Indian troops to push Burma.

But I do have a plan to keep the IJ busy ..

Jan 1st means a lower rate of duds for your American subs, which should help your morale.

Heavy AA units - You have one at Colombo and at least two at Aukland. If you haven't moved them yet, I would get them closer to the action.

The one in Colombo is in Mandalay right now ... which over time suprised the IJ as the flak losses at 1-2 per turn from 5000 foot night bombing accumulated over the months The two from Aukland are in Oz protecting Carnes, which was being smacked by night bombing regularly.. after a few Betty's were shashed by heavy flak that stopped

But good call as in '43 the IJ's Helen's are quite effective unopposed.

CENPAC JAN 1943:

I have posted a map of the Marshalls of where things stand. I am in a quandry. I can take Jaluit and move my patrol forces another 200 or so miles forward into the battlespace. I have a second mission of gettting a base force on Kusaie Island and begin to project intellegence gathering not only toward Truk but over the entire northern battlespace I cannot reach yet. The gap shown in black can be covered at extended ranges but I need to see beyond that even to get a good warning of KB movements in this theater.

What I am considering is a multiple pronged operation of invading Jaluit while getting a BF on Kusaie Island .. we shall see how this develops .
