My opponent disagrees

It was really an assumption by the IJ that an operation could not be pulled off, and it is very very possible with the right planning. Burma was simply under defended and the Solomon's overdefended. I think we can make Bangkok by May 43 and stage 3 Corps there for a push into Indiochina. If I can seize Can Ranh Bay .. I can close the sea lanes to the Empire on January '44.

The Tanker route from the DEI thorugh Yap is already seeing submarine contacts and soon enough 2E's and 4E's

No sinking in the combat report but sinking sounds after each attack .. I say scratch one huge tanker! The TK Kyokuyo Maru is 34 VP's and carries 15,000 tons of fuel. She was burning with cargo explosions when the torps hit ..that means despirately needed fuel that did not make it to the home islands ..

I am not sure how much FOW affects intellegence ..lets look at two pieces of informaton ..

6760 men are based at Jaluit (134,120).
Actually this is incorrect ... there are 4,752 US troops on Jaluit. Somebody got into the Torpedo juice and forgot that we took this island last month ..

21488 men are based at Chiang Mai (58,53).
This bit of news is distrubing in light of the above. When did Chiang Mai have 20K troops? Did the IJ just move troops in or is this old information like above?

Recon this turn will find out what is up ...

I would surmise the port is damaged .. thus no quick offloading and expsoure to bombing if any supply is dropped off ..It might be worth to move some CENPAC Bombers here and begin an earnest campaign on New Guinea ..

Thanks!! I will get the graphical aspect down as soon as my real life pace slows. .. right now I am having trouble with Paintshop taking multiple screen shots during combat animations... sometimes it works .. most of the time it crashes ...

Ireally like Larry's approach of overlaying CR's with the animation and map ...someday

21488 men are based at Chiang Mai (58,53).

Just to follow up. There are 20,000+ at Chiang Mai and the IJ are moving 3 full divisions into theater. Meanwhile we are running into a problem where movement just resets. I did try moving each unit one at a time but I cannot get forces to cross the river to the East of Pegu toward Chiang Mai.

Given the build up and depending if the sacrifice of a chicken works ...I might rail a Corps to Tung Gyi and take that trail all the way East of Chiang Mai. The surprise here and it will take months to get there ... is that I arrive just south of Chiang Mai cutting off what I suspect will be 55,000 troops by May 43.

Decsions Decsions .. in the meantime we gather our forces here .. soon to be the 9th Aus Dvision and the 43rd US Inf. Dvision in another month or so ..

BURMA:

I am going to assume there are too many fighters over Tavoy and my guys are failing some check. I have a thread in the tech section because I think feedback would be much appricated in this case. Being left with "Vanna can I buy a vowel?" makes the game frustrating.

CENPAC:

I switch the targeting to Kwajalein Island. It looks like the IJ is abadoning the Marshall's. If so Marine Radier squads and 4E's can take these islands. This would be excellent as much of the work of an invasion is not landing .. but getting the stuff back off for the next landing ..

I just gained a bunch of Victory points. I really did not do anything . at least I thought I did not do anything ..

Basic VP# x [ ( current size of port ) + ( current size of airfield x 2) ]

Rangoon increased airfield by one -- from 6 to 7 ...

Rangoon = 100 * (( 7) +( 7*2)) 2100 points . that one airfield increase was 200 more points... really key to build up airbases ...

My point here is that building up Rangoon airbase is equivalent to sinking a small CVE, or killing off 3 IJA divisions .. of risk/reward building up Rangon is much more rewarding ..interesting value system in this game ..

Below is a map of Burma as of 20 MAR 43. With the exception of a Thai unit the teleported ..Burma is cleared of the IJA. They have also abadoned Moulmien!!! This is a double edged sword as Moulmien at this stage can be the next Akyab where nighly shore bombardment reduce our forces.

We move cautiously forward with one division to occupy Moulmein, while the Indian XXXIII Corps & I AUS Corps move around on the East through Thailand. It will take one month to pull off this maneuver but it prevents being flanked by the LYB, and clears out any buildup for couterattack. That puts us at May 43 at Chaing Mai and the start of the Monsoon .. . Supplies will be at a premium as will our airforce.

The Allies can secure airbases in the area and bring in base forces which will take us into June 43. It might be October 43 before we start the siege of Bangkok. This will take both cutting off all the roads in as well as constant port bombing to drop supply. The IJ will have 85,000 troops it looks like defending this base.

In the meantime .. the Pacific will heat up and put pressure on the IJ ..

The points are simply not there to win this war through sinking merchants. I am not even sure of the critical point in how many merchants have to be claimed before the effort makes an impact. Let's say there are 2000 merchants total in the IJN inventory and they are building more. Right now we are 460 turns into this affair. My reports have about 130~ merchants sunk. Not all of these are submarines. In fact, many sinkings were the result of shore batteriees taking target practice during landings. So at optimum we have 1 merchant about every 4 days average. Even at a merchant everyday it would take 5 years to duplicate history.

......................................................... IJ sunk Allied Sunk Allied Active Allied Total

AK/AKV/AKE/AKL/AKA/xAK/XAKL : 111 113 598 1881

I am not sure of the critical level needed to affect production. Obviously tankers are the keystone, but the IJ need resources and to send supplies to outposts. There is some level greater than a 130 but less than 2000 that starts bringing the IJ economy to its knees.

Until then .. we continue to move toward cutting off the IJ from its newly conquered resource based. The size of the merchant fleet does not matter if they cannot safely get to their destinations. The railline from Singers to Fusan will be cut next week eliminating the other avenue for moving raw war materials to the homelands.
