Here's my T33 moves with an overlay to show my attacks. I eleminated two Finn Divisions near Lake Lodoga but other than that it was just a steady push everywhere again.

I did an animation of the changes from turn 16 to turn 33. Quite a sight. Constant pushing to the west for about 17 turns now.

As a rule of thumb, if you are Soviet, and you are threatening Minsk, Kiev, and Odessa in the winter of 41-42, your opponent is losing. Badly. Really Badly.

I don't understand how he could allow Finns to get surrounded.

Larry,

Nice touch with animation!

I'm going to start an AAR, can you please tell me what tools you used to do the animation? I'm somewhat of a graphic tools noob.

It's increadibly easy and I think it looks pretty good in an AAR. I use MSPaint to "position" the screenshots so they "overlap" correctly saving the images as files and then I use GIFanimator to string together the two screenshots into a GIF file and then just upload the GIF file to the forum.

You can find the GIFAnimator here:

GIFAnimator

EDIT: Maybe I should post a couple of pictures to show how to use the GIFAnimator. Or at least how I use it:

Or click on this for GIFAnimator instructions

Recon showed me where the rest of the Finns are. I have no idea why he didn't move them into a better position ( to defend the other Finns being attacked). I'll bet he's sitting in level 15 forts and is ready for me.

Here's a CR of my Infantry divisions with the biggest in terms of men sorted to the top. I've got a lot of fairly-good-CV divisions now. It's making a difference on the battlefield.

I wish there was some way to find out beforehand what it's going to cost in AP's to send an AA unit attached to a city back to the NR. Clicking on that little X in the box will deduct AP's from your total and you have to figure out yourself from the different AP numbers ( before and after clicking ) what it has cost you. Seldom do I wish to pay an inflated price to do this to an AA unit. I wish I knew before I clilcked on it.

Here's what it costs me to build something. I did build 2 Cav Divisions so I would have a stack of three of them to make a Cav Corps. Cost me 40 AP's to do that so far. I'm wondering if they are worth it. Cav Corps. I mean.

Here's a typical attack result........the Axis backs up but it costs me at least twice as many men in losses. Good thing I can afford to do this on a regular basis. I'll win in the long run I know, but it just seems like a gigantic waste is all.

Okie dokie........I moved all the Soviet stuff, did a bunch of Axis air base strikes and lots and lots of land combat attacks. Here's the Soviet moves with an overlay showing my attacks. I'm getting a lot of "held" results lately. Maybe I should think about going on the defensive even though it's only Feb 5, 1941.

Are Cav Corps worth it?

You lost hardly any Cav Divisions in 1941 (only 10, and of those a few are 100% doomed at the start). So, you should be able to build quite a few Cav Corps without building any new divisions. I didn't in my game vs. Tarhunnas, although I did "Corps Up" every single Cav Division pretty quickly.

Cav Corps are amazingly useful; they are more mobile than infantry, especially in winter, and until you get Rifle Corps are the strongest units you get. As a bonus, they don't hog vehicles. They don't have alot of oomph on their own, but attach 1 Sapper and 2 Tank Units, and they get tougher.

I would probably hoard the APs, though, for creating Tank Corps in April. Make sure you have alot of APs heading into March, because you'll want to immediatly convert all those Tank Bdes into Corps.

I'm running into a problem. Those Axis units with low CV I can usually make back up, but the stacks with substantial CV in them I call hard nuggots because I can't do much with them. I end up having to go around them most of the time.

KLilly has used fortifications to build a bunch of strong points. Now I'm stymied and don't yet have the strength to overcome these.
Going to defensive mode is looking better and better.

The Axis certainly have tried to preserve their mobile forces this winter. Not seen much of them at all the past few turns - the odd hint of them on the flanks of that bulge going west to Minsk and around Kiev but not much else as they build back up towards 3k afvs.

Definitely covered a lot of ground in the winter offensive Larry. Good luck with 42.
