Fellow Gamers,
I was embroiled in a scenario, early war, with a host of typical German early war armor, 37mm and 20mm stuff. Scenario designer Mad Russian includes many of the early war Russian behemoths, much to my distress.

As the 38t were being split open, I was forced to drastic measures, such as firing 20mm cannon into the sides of the Russian giants, with little or no effect. I moved infantry into the path of the tanks, as the Russians were plowing through the woods. Just such an occasion was the close assault of a KV-1 by three panzer grenadier squads in heavy woods. The other two squads can't be seen in the screen shot. They were instrumental in distracting the Russian tank crew, allowing this squad to close in.

They started roaring "Hurrah, Hurrah" and began throwing a hail of grenades. I must admit I didn't have much hope for the lads.

The amazing conclusion came as a pleasant surprise for me and a hugh relief for the German squad. They were at barely 18 meters, but in heavy wood with two other squads taking fire to allow them to work their way close enough to kill the steel monster. I thought I saw green tracers firing from the rear machine gun of the KV-1 as their desperate crew sought to kill their tormentors.

I know the squad members shared my skepticism at this situation concluding successfully. They had already attacked once before, but the tank backed away from them and the squads broke and ran. Then they rallied and I worked them in close again, using all three but two as distractions - a nice way to say bait - and it worked.

There was plenty of nail-biting as I shoved the reluctant troops in the direction of that terrifying monster. These dramatic moments really make this game very special.

So, it can be done. But, all the right things worked together this time. Who knows what will happen the next time around.....
