KB off Kendri
MKB off NW coast of Oz

NW coast of Oz
MKB pops up and sinks 2 xAPs, 2 xAKs and a CM.  Over a thousand troops and 100 vehicles go down with those ships.  More ships will sink thru the nite.  TFs in teh are are split and sent in all directions.  This made me very angry.  I never saw the MKB coming.  A Brit CV TF is moving down this way.  They have 40 fighters on board.  This is a defensive tool for me right now.  I want to stop these MKB raids.  If need be I will run these into areas where LBA can protect them.

Banda Sea
Looks like the invasion of Ambon is forming up.  Subs are postioned in the path, if Koniu decides to go this way.  11 US and Dutch subs are in the area.  Maybe we can do something with this force.

Burma
The first Jap unit moves into the open.  Time for payback.  2 fighter sqds will sweep.  2 fighter sqd (1 US and 1 Brit) will escort 4Es and 2Es.  I need to keep this path open so my Rangoon forces can fall back to my MLR in northern Burma.

Kweiyang
AF bombed by the Japs and catch a bunch of AC on the ground.

Koepang
The Dutch troops hold againist another attack.  Nav Bombardment does nothing.  Air bombing kills 25.  We also kill 3 Oscars on CAP and damage another one.

Timor AO
I plan on useing this area as one of my approaches to Japan.  I have to stop this offensive here.  I have troops coming to do this.  But the MKB is screwing this plan up.  I need to take care of this group of cockroaches.  If I make them withdrawn great, if I sink them even better.

Observations and thoughts
Crackaces, I think your right about the Jap offensive timeline.  This will prob be Koniu's last major amphib offensive.  He will be able keep aggressive operations in Burma and China.  I also think that he has most of his fighters in the CBI AO.  I haven't seen many outside that area. That will change AFs are growing in all other areas.  4Es will start to bombing his outposts.  Hopefully this will make him spread his fighters around.

Zulu lets not count out chickens before they hatch.  I can loose a divisons worth of troops if he keeps working over these TFs.  Ok after some house work.  I am feeling better.  It was my fault that I did not guard these shipping lanes.  I will do better in my next game.  Yes I want another game.

Crackaces, you are correct.  That helps me out and keeps me going.  But I can't throw a temper tantrum everynow and then.  I just don't like having my plans disrupted.  Especially now that I have decided that this will be an avenue of attack for me.

Wasp will be coming online soon.  I will send her to this area to protect this area.   What Koniu dosen't know is that this has forced me to move more forces into the area.  Also I am planning another raid.  Though this raid will take some time to get up and running.  So you guys can forget about it.  I will remind you when its time.

So lets talk about Ambon and the possible invasion

Forts are lv 3
360 AV Dutch troops
2 CD units
40 mines with another 75 coming
supply is low but do able

APDs are a day out of Darwin. I will try to resupply Lautem.  So I can base fighters and bombers to sweep and bomb the Jap naval forces.

I wonder what Koniu is bringing.  I know he as prepped an IR and HQ.  He knows it will take more than that.  I just hope that the mines, CD guns, and subs will reak havoc among the Jap forces.

KB 1 Hex west of Ambon
MKB NW Oz

Ok not at home with this update.

Ambon
Looks like the whole Japanese battle fleet is present. I don't see any amphib ships. I do see and ampib TF at Kendri. 2 sub attacks both at DDs so no joy. I think I will try and sweep the Ambon hex tomorrow and see what happens.

NW Oz
MKB sinks more ships. I got a cadre of most of the units on land. 2 different DD TFs hit small convoy fragments and sinks them. MKB is heading east. I bet he's still looking for my fleeing ships. He may hit a fighter ambush. I have a 3 ship TF running from them, they are now within fighter range. I have more fighters at Geraldtown than he has on the MKB. I have 2 CA, 2 CLs, 7 DDs in the area. I think I am going to break them down into 2 SAGs and wait for a chance to strike at them.

Burma
Koniu is trying to cut off my retreating forces. I am going to reroute them they will probably end up being attacked by the land units. I think they can hold off the Jap forces pursuing them. My bombers and fighter sweeps didn't go in today.

Ndeni
I am thinking of going ahead with this invasion. Koniu has nothing in the area to contest me. Maybe I can pull the KB out of the Banda Sea area.

KB Banda Sea
MKB NW coast of Oz

Burma
Allied sweeps maul Jap Oscars.  Replay says 23 Oscars went down.  Intel screen says 35 went down to A2A and 4 more went down to Ops.  We lost 1 Hurri IIB and P38 to A2A and one of each to ops.  I like this.  More sweeps are ordered.

Ambon
Invaded. 2 IDs and 2 IRs (some of the IRs) land one D-day.  They take 3,222 casualities.  CD guns rough up 6 xAKs 3 of which have heavy damage and fires.   1 CL takes 3 hits, and a DD takes a hit listed as Heavy Damage.  No mine hits.  74 mines will be delivered tom.

MKB sinks 5 xAKs.

Koepang still stands in our hands.

I forgot to click the do not load button and accidently dropped some troops off in a non base hex.  OPPs

more later after I sleep some.

Joe, I'm reading both AARs, just so you know the reason behind lack of posting. This is the only AAR I am doing this with although I would have liked to read an opposing AAR to Dans. I'm still here rooting for the red white and blue.

AHHH Kurt.

Alfred thanks for the post in Zulus thread.

Ambon
I have ordered Dutch fighters all 11 of them to sweep Ambon hex.  74 sub mines should be layed tomorrow at Ambon.  I know mines are somewhat abstracted, but I wish he'd start hitting some of them.  With terrain and forts I hope the Dutch can hold out till reinforcements arrive.  I have ordered 4 subs to move into Ambons shallow waters in hopes they will attack and blow something up.

Koepang
APDs will pick up some troops to take to Koepang.  I am sortieing 2 SAGs after the MKB.  I think Koniu maybe sending a TF to Koepang with reinforcments.  If he does I will have something to counter that with.

China
Sweeps are ordered, lets see what happens.  I have went thru and turned off AF and most fort building due to supplies.

Burma
Troops moving to MLR.

Crackaces.  It could be better.  I had time to fortify this area.  I didn't do it.  My mistake.  But I will fight here.

21st May

KB Banda Sea
MKB IO disappeared from our Nav search

Burma
We ground bomb 2 Jap units in the open.  We cause 411 casualities.  We lose 1 B17D to ops.  We will attack and sweep another group of units tom.

Ambon
More landings.  We take a toll on the Jap forces.  322 Japs killed on the beach. Our CD gun crews earned there pay.  62 hits on transports this turn.  Subs attack but no joy.  Bunch of duds and misses.  I have seen transports leaving the hexs.

Koepang
Fell into the Jap hands today.

Nw Oz
MKB has disappeared.  We are sending out a DD scout TFs to see if they left the area or are waiting to strike again.

Tulagi
Liberators hit the port and land one bomb on an AV.  We will bomb the port again.

Talked to Koniu about the battle of Darwin.  He said the number the computer put up was very close.  This is going to be a fight we both want the Timor and Ambon area.  It will come down to who is willing to take the most punishment.  He is worried about all the subs patroling in the area.  If I can get some supply to the 2 bases I have unoccuplied, I might try and take shots at the KB.

Unit Supply

a unit with 100% supply has its unadjusted assault value multiplied by 1
a unit with 75% supply is multiplied by 0.8
a unit with 50% supply is multiplied by 0.6
a unit with 25% supply is multiplied by 0.4
a unit with zero supply is multiplied by 0.25

Fortification Level

fort level 0 = 1x unadjusted assault value
fort level 1 = 1.1x
fort level 2 = 1.25x
fort level 3 = 1.5x
fort level 4 = 1.75x
fort level 5 = 2x
fort level 6 = 2.25x
fort level 7 = 2.5x
fort level 8 = 2.75x
fort level 9 = 3x

Recon shows no fighters but 64 bombers and 67 aux planes with 3 ships in port.  I have ordered a 4E raid on both port and AF.  I don't know where his fighters are.

I heard atleast 4 ship sinking sounds in the background.

24th May

KB Banda Sea
MKB unknown

China
Forces still trying to retreat from Kukong.

Burma
We hit 2 tank rgts and a recon unit from the air. 59 vehicles are destroyed along with 100 men. Another bombing attack will follow with sweeps.

Ambon
We bomb his units here and inflict 27 cas. They delib attack and lose 3,700 to our 650.

Dili
Skipjack attacks twice during the nite both TTs are duds. The second attack they get hammered. They will make it to port but will spend some time repairing their boat. Losts of action around Dili. We send in lots of AC on Low Nav. We hit an AP with a single 500lber causing 50 cas. We lose 15 Hudson LRs, 6 Maruders, and 2 B17Es. But we take 14 Zeros with us 6 in the air and the rest OPs loses. B17Es are killer at high alt. I had them at 20,000 and his Zeros where set on low and got clobbered when trying to climb to meet my bombers. This IR has taken some damage from the air. I am sending in an SAG, maybe it can finish this invasion off.

MKB
No signs of it yet. I am sending out search parties to find it. I might be able to move in the last of my convoys.

I noticed that Koniu has lost more planes than me for the first time. I want to keep this trend.

I am on a ski vacation. So turns will be slow. Koniu has things to do the next 2 days. So I am going to keep the turn a few days and dwell over it.

Lets do a recap of the last few turns.

Koepang
Has been invaded and captured by a Jap IR.

Dili
Has been captured by a Jap IR. This IR has been roughed up and is still unloading. I have a SAG moving into this hex next turn. I hope it can catch this TF. I only see an ASW TF guarding it.

Lautem
I don't have much here to protect the base. I will try and transport in some AV. I am also moving in some transport AC. I will try to move in small units by air.

Ambon
2 Jap IDs and 2 IRs has landed here. Ambon has 300 Dutch AV behind 3 forts. Supply is low, I have 4 APDs moving supplies into Ambon tonite.

Troops
Darwin
Oz ID, MG Bn, Coy, and a Cav Bde.

At Sea
3 Brit Bdes

Sydney
US ID this will move north to the Timor region.

Derby
Aus Pn Bn

Plans
These will depend on how things go. If the KB leaves and I see an opening.

Ambon
Slow move the Oz ID to Ambon. Along with some Arty units when I get them in the area.

Lautem
Bring in the Aus Pn Bn, along with the MG Bn, and the Coy unit. Maybe bring in one of the Brit Bdes.

Koepang
US ID, Brit Bde, and an Aus Combat Eng unit.

I plan on trying to put troops into Ambon first. I will need to get some transports into the area. Most were sunk by the MKB in the past few days. More are on the way. Saumlaki is about to go to an AF 1. Fighters and DBs will be based here. Supplies at Ambon will make it able to fly fighters there also. Lautem should be a little easier to supply and land troops. Again need supply to be able to put fighters in the air. I don't want to lose this area. Its time to fight. I just hope Ambon can hold till relieved.

Edit Question
Kanga force says its airborne capable. Is this true or not?

What I have found is not whether the unit has Para 42 forces .. but the white label of "Parachute" There are Aussie forces that have para inf that are not air droppable but the Chindits have plain ol' 42 inf but are parachute capable .. just a thought ...

2 Days to catch you guys up on.

KB unknown
MKB unknown

Not much has happened.

Dili
I sent a small SAG to Dili, they just missed the Jap TFs there.  In return the KB launches a strike at our SAG.  A TT hits a CA light damage no major damage done at all.  CL get hit by a bomb and is damaged couple weeks for repair.  We bombed the Jap troops causing 50 casualities.  This IR looks to be in bad shape.

Ambon
We bombed his troops inflicting 100 casualities.

Timor AO
Reinforcements will be moving into the area.  I want to reinforce and resupply Ambon first.

Lots of sub actions but all duds.  be glad when I get some working TTs.

We had some problems with CTDs.  We both had them.  So we replayed the 27th turn.  No changes.

Changsha
Fighter sweep by the Japs 71 Oscars.  17 go down.  We lose 7 P40Bs, 6 P40Es, 4 P39s.

Dili
We bomb the Jap troops here. Zeros are LRCAPing.  6 Beufighters go down for 2 Zeros.  We don't do much damage to the ground troops.

Kendri
Sub attacks a Jap transport TF and takes light damage.

Ambon
Attacked by air and damaged the runway.

NorPac
We have sighted 2 single ship TFs south of Adak.  I am sending out a small SAG headed by PG Charleston to investigate.  I don't want to show what I have up here.

India
First B17Es are in the area.

Got a Birthday party to go to.

KB unknown
MKB unknown

Lots of sub action this turn.

Akyab
Just moved in some HDMLs.  Jap sub lays some mines.  2 hits are recorded along with a fire.

Luganville
1 hit on a Jap sub.

Noumea
3 sub attacks the first one gets away without a scratch.  The second (i-59) sub gets hit 4 times with 2 major hits.  The third time I-59 gets hit 6 more times with major hits recorded.  Maybe this sub won't make it home.

Pago Pago
Sub attack no joy for either side.

Kendri
Dutch sub takes 8 hits mod damage.

Lautem
APDs hang around during daytime and draw the attention of the Jap AF.  Japs miss all APDs.  300 supply will be dropped off

I-19 has been reported hit 18 times in the month of may.  I think my pilots need to name off another sub.  Koniu has move lots of subs into my ports this turn.

Changsha
Night attack by the Japs.  2 planes destroyed on the ground.  It looks like he is moving his LCUs into Changsha.  I have major bombing planned tom.  I think I have found where Koniu is keeping his bombers.  I have some going in at night and more going in during the day with fighter sweeps.

NorPac
The Jap TFs are leaving the area.  I think he is probing me, trying to figure out what I have up here.

Operation Dumbo.  This is from the stupid movie where US Forces had to get an elephant to a tribe in Vietnam.

Objective of Dumbo
Reinforce Ambon with an Ozzie ID and supplies. Second part is to reinforce and resupply Lautem.  The last part is to recapture Koepang.

Plan
APDs will resupply Lautem first.  I want to get some fighters up there.  Saumlaki has a Lv 1 AF with supply and fighters.  Ambon APDs will resupply Ambon to get some fighters up on CAP.  A brigade will be moved to Ambon and unloaded at a time.  A CV TF will also provide air cover for the amphib TF.  Before the amphib TF goes in, I will try to bombard Kendri by sea then air.  Hopeing to close the AF or atleast damage AC on the ground.

Lautem has 60 AV and growing.  This is being done by air.  Later it will be done by sea.

Koepang will be the last to happen.

I don't have BBs to do the Nav bombardment only CAs, CLs, and DDs.  They will have to make do.  I plan on haveing 50 to 60 4E bombers.

I have 1 Ozzie ID and soon to have 1 US ID, 3 Brit Bdes, 3 Arty units, Engs, AA units, and some armor.

Yes they lost there bonus.  When they landed on Ambon they took a beating.  If I remember correctly in one day we scored 63 hits on his transports from our CD guns. I heard sinking ship noises for 2 days after that.

I hope your right Crackaces.  I just need to get my forces and supplies to where there needed.  I can pretty much tie up 2 IDs and 2 IRs on Ambon.  1IR at Dili and another at Koepang.
