Status: offline 		Alfred:  I know what your saying.  I have been doing this for some time now.   I swept Taung Gyi before.  The next day twice as many fighters were there.  Koniu has around 3 times the number of fighters I do.  Maybe I am wrong with this plan.  I will try and get some screen shots up around Thursday.   I don't have that many 3rd Gen fighters that can go up againist what Koniu has in the area.  I might try and send some Hellcats in I have over 50 of them in the area.

Kurt: My wife is preggars.  So no nylons.  Even though I did just feel my daughter kick for the first time just now.

Status: offline 		How are your pools doing? You have to keep an close eye on those and don´t waste planes just for the sake of sweeping. You can never wear down the Japanese air force so when you do something offensively it has to have a purpose.

3/44 you get the P47-25. I think it is 175 per month but beware as it only runs for 4 months. You have to make that stretch until 11/44 when the P51D kicks in. Its an awesome plane though! . If you play by the 2nd MVR band HR you can stack that on top of everything the Japs have. But in the period between the P47-25 and P51D that you are stuck with only 80 P38s and 30 P51Bs USAAF planes. Only plane you get in that time in decent numbers are the Hellcat but against Franks and Sams its outdated.

I found that mid to late 44 my fighter pools where more critical then any other period of the game aside from the first 6 months. Especially late 44 everything was dry.

All action in Burma

Taung Gyi
One of the 2Es attack during the night with success.  They destroy 15 fighters on the ground and leave 32 holes in the runway.  Sweeps go in. Corsairs go in first and run up against 100 Franks and Tojos.  They did great, all my sweeps did great.  We down 86 fighters for 15 of our own.  Not all of my groups took off today.  I did stand down the bombers.

Joc:  Pools are ok.  I have about 100 P47s

I forgot. I lost a bunch of bombers to LRCAP Hansa Bay.

Quiet turn for the most part but I'm happy with it.



China

Japs are bombarding Changsha. Other than that static.



Burma

Troops are moving around for both of us. I took Bassien yesterday. It looks like a Jap unit is moving towards Bassien. I might be mistaken because this would be a mistake. I have an Oz ID, Brit BDE and 2 AA units present. Forts are at 20% right now.



Timor AO

Jap ships have bombarded Saumlaki several times. I haven't lost many planes in them but I have lost several PT boats. Subs, mines, and PT boats haven't done anything. I'm still building up the islands around Saumlaki.



New Britian AO

I have been attacking Hansa bay. I have been slowly chipping away at them. I have another BDE moving in. I did catch 5 PBs doing a supply run and sunk them by 2Es. I also caught 4 xAKLs and sunk them too.



Marshalls

Several naval bombardments have closed down the AFs on Maeolap and Wotje. I finally got some subs into the area. PT boats and mines haven't did much. I get lucky with one of my subs this turn. 2 TT hits both penetrate the armor of the CV with a fuel explosion. CV was reported on fire.

I am prepping units for Moulmein. It will take awhile for me to get everything needed for this op.

I am moving units from around Ramree Island to Magwee. I will then move them down south along the opposite side of the river. My hope is the tanks will be the deciding factor. I am also moving armor units to Taung Gyi to help deal out some pain. I have done some sweeps and they have worked. Once I get units into position, I will start my major offensives.

Taung Gyi
I have 4 IDs with 2 tank units present. 2 more tank units are on their way. 2 beat up Chinese corps are present with on combat eng unit. I am facing 2 IDs one component of a tank Div behind 5 forts.

Koniu has an ID in just about every hex around his parameter.

Japs have built up several bases. I have reports that A/B/C components of ID are scattered around Sumatra and Java. I just got a intel report that 28th C ID is at Djambi. I'm not for sure what else is around this area. If you want a map of the area ask, but its all in Jap hands.

Timor AO

Samulaki
Building up AF and everthing along with Babar and the island SE of Samulaki. Bombardment runs are coming from around Ambon. I have units prepping for Lautem. These consist of 1 ID several BDEs and tank units. I think that KB 2 is around the area, but not for sure. I do know 3 BBs, 4 CLs and DDs are around.

I have several IDs, BDEs prepping for different bases in the area. I'm trying to get stuff in place as well as finding the Jap CVs.

Status: offline 		I think you are in a very good position. You are putting pressure on three different axis forcing koniu to spread out. If you can get to Timor that will give you a level 9 AFs in the area. I think this should be your priority. From there almost ALL Japanese oil are within B29 range. Its only 3 months away until you get the first batch! If you can do that I would say your CV losses were worth it.

If you can get Babar/Damar built up an invasion of Timor should be doable under LBA and without CV cover as long as KB is in CENTPAC.

Regarding Burma I would be surprised if you could break through by land. Both Speedy and I failed to do so despite a huge allied commitment. Prepp units for an amphib landing somewhere behind his MLR. It doesn´t need to be a long jump. Moulmein? Tavoy? Just have the troops prepped in case you run into a brick wall and can´t get any further.

CENTPAC, Without CVs its going to be a couple of months before you get make some real progress here. But keep up the pressure and force koniu to continue to spend assets here. If you can make him keep KB here its a small victory for you I would say!

I think you are doing far better then you think you are. Keep it up!

Oh, and congrats on the CV. That one may be a goner!

We sweep a base above Ambon and shoot down a bunch of Tojos.

Hansa Bay
Jap units about ready to crumble.  I need to rest for a few days.  I think I can take it with the next attack.

Marshalls
Interesting development.  Bombardment TFs are present (I believe this, I have only seen the replay).  I have subs inbetween the TFs and my bases.  The kicker is I have 2 SAGs close by.  One CA SAG with Fletchers and a Fletcher DD SAG (10 ships).  I can run a bombardment of Roi Namur or I can send them againist his bombardment TFs.  I am thinking of sending them after his TFs.  If I can hit him with both TFs after he does his bombardment run I should have the advantage but that's a big if.  I could also hit him before he runs and have bombers present.  Running thru 2 SAGs and PT boats should run his ammo down.  Moonlight should be in the 60s or so. 

What do you guys think?

Marshalls

I have 3 Jap TFs 1 is the CVs, for some reason its the lead TF. The 2 TFs behind it are bombardment TFs. I assume. In the past a BB, CL with DDs bombarded Wotje, while 3 BBs and DDs bombarded Maloelap.

Besides the subs I have 2 PT boat TFs at Wotje. I will have my Fletcher TF run down one hex south of Wotje. I am still on the fence about sending the CAs into the fight. I might break off the CAs and have the DDs try to intercept the Jap TF at Wotje. I want night battles, but I don't want them to hang around during the day phase.

I have ordered the Fletcher TF to move to the hex just south of Wotje, with one waypoint (Wotje). I have 11 Cats on night search. 28 Avengers on night attack. I am not expecting much from my PTs, subs or Avengers.

The good about the Marshalls.
Koniu using a lot of fuel running the BBs and CVs around this area. He is also exposing his ships to my subs. I will get lucky from time to time. Also these ships are being occupied in an area I'm not able to advance.


47 Tojos are shot down over Namlea this turn for 1 P38.

Status: offline 		My LRCAP shoots down 16 Zeros and 11 Nells that attacked one of my TFs.  1 Jap DD is reported sunk.  This TF had to retire to one of the 3 bases I don't have reconned.  Tomorrow I will recon these bases and attack with bombers.  Hopefully I will finish off the damaged DDs.  Maybe get a few hits on the cruisers.

Out bombing missions fine only an AKE.  We put 3 500 lb pounds into her. We do lose a few Navy Liberators going after a DD.  A fleet boat puts a TT into a big fat xAP.  A Jap CL and DD run into mines outside Rangoon.  DD is listed as on fire with heavy damage.  I hope this one sinks.

Ternate
US sub spots 3 Jap BBs I don't know if they are leaving the area or moving into it.

Hansa Bay
Captured.  We are bombing the retreating units from the air.  I might be able to wipe out these units before they get out of the swamps.

Marshalls
We sink 3 mini subs and my DDs plaster Roi Namur.

The best news is that the Uruyu is confirmed sunk!!!!!!!

Quiet. I tried sneaking some of my reserves down to Wuchow.  Jap LCU has spotted us.  Back to the drawing board.

Burma
I have units moving around, for a new offensive.  The minefield outside of Rangoon has been destroyed by the Japanese.  Since the last update another DD and a PB had struck a mine.  Not bad.  Possibility of sinking 2 DDs (both reported on fire with heavy damage) and damaging a CL and PB.  Intel reported 10 DDs in the Tavoy port.  I sent fighters and bombers in.  We find LBs instead of DDs, we do sink them all.  Our P38s find and destroy 37 Zeros for the lose of 4 P38s.  No bombers are lost.

Timor AO
I sent 2 DDs up to Ambon to take out some LBs.  I was bored.  They get caught by a CA escorted by a few DDs.  I lose 1 DD with another damaged.  We damaged 2 of his DDs.  The next day a US sub sinks one of the damaged DDs.  We have bombed a few islands just as harassment.

Hansa Bay
We have been bombing the fleeing Jap units.

Marshalls
I have sent in some DEs again and sink some more LBs with a cpl of mini subs.   I have lost 2 fleet boats due to AASW.

Koniu didn't push to hard in China. I am in a good position if I can open up the Burma road.

Burma
Magwee see's 2 different sweeps by the new Frank r version.  Its a beast.  The first sweep is on the 28th  11 Franks are shot down with 65 of our own.  Mostly P40s but Spits took a beating also.  On the 30th another sweep comes in 28 Frank r's are lost for 31 of our own.  This time he faced better planes.  The problem was my guys were still on the ground with only 5 or so mins to get up into the air.  I do have radar 2 sets but they didn't help.  I am brining in another 2 sets.  The CL that hit a mine outside of Rangoon is listed as sunk, I don't believe it.

Pbang
We sink a small tanker.

Timor AO
I lose 2 subs. Koniu has now brought in some E's for ASW work around Ternate.  I am going to pull back my subs.  Something must be in this area.

Marshalls
We sink a PB.

I decided to risk an invasion of Lautem.  So far I have the 5th Aussie ID with and NZ BDE, tank unit and a BF landed with 12k worth of supplies.  All ships will leave or are ordered to leave tonite. Japs have an IR and a BF present.  Japs didn't bombard my troops.  I wonder if they are out of supply or big guns.  I also bombed a few AFs in this area.

Burma
Going to do a DA at Taung Gyi.  Only using half my AV capable units.  I am going to alternate my attacking units from rest to attack.  Frank Rs sweep Magwe again We lose 36 for his 34.

Timor AO
Lautem is captured.  I got this base on the cheap.  Koniu doesn't seem to happy with this.  His NavS never spotted my ships and we got away.  My subs did take some shots at his SAGs but no hits.  I count 3 BBs and 3 CAs with DDs as escorts.  Air ASW is slowly sinking my subs.  Lost one today.  I plan on taking Dili and building up these 2 bases and then moving up the islands under LBA.  Jap NavS is better now and that sucks.  I struck Ambon and another base both times putting a 500 LBer into an AK. I lose 9 4Es attacking one of these ports.

Wewak
We sink 4 xAKLs and 2 PBs.

Status: offline 		Nice work getting Lautem! Now you have a level 9 AF in range of 90% of the Jap oil!

The Frank "R" is going to change the air war. He can now sweep you out from the skies. He has numbers you can only dream of. And the ONLY plane you have that you can put above it is the P47. Revert back to 42 tactics. Hit and run.

Put the P47s up just above his Franks (100 ft above is enough to get "the dive"). Put the Spit VIIs down at 20k. His Franks will dive on the lowest placed CAP so make sure its the Spits. Their MVR and speed will save many of them. I usually add another "layer" at around 25-30k. Sometimes this layer get a shot at the Franks after they have dived on the Spits. Not always though.

Forget about offensive Sweeps for now. Only do them when its absolutely critical. He will have his Frank CAP up over your sweepers and you will be mauled. Be very, very careful with your P47s. If you run out of them (only plane that you can put above the Frank) you will be in a bad, bad situation. Sadly all you can do now is to endure until the P47N arrives in 4/45. The P51D will be useless as you can only place it at 31k.

Sorry if sounding like a doomsday prophet but its the sad truth of it.

We have done 2 DAs at Taung Gyi.  TG has 4 forts now.  It did have 5.  We are losing more troops but this is expected.  I have more troops to give.  I need to widdle him down.  We do a ground attack and destroy 24 planes.

18th Feb 44

China
Hmmm  Japs have pulled out of Changsha.  Quiet

Burma
Frank Sweeps Magwe and Ramree Island.  Results not good.  Losess 76 Frank r's, We lose 39 P40s, 19 P38s, 19 Hurris, 11 Spits, 7 Corsairs, 7 Hellcats, and 5 P47s.  That's 107 AC lost for 76.  Not good.  he is basing these killer out of Rangoon.  He has a large CAP up so it will be hard to get bombers in.  I am moving troops to Taung Gyi and the hex south of it.  I am going to try and surround Taung Gyi.  I made Koniu move an ID away from Taung Gyi and got an ID behind Taung Gyi cutting off the yellow road.  I am moving small units from China towards the same yellow road to cut off the Jap IDs supply route.  The attacks on Taung Gyi have stopped due to supply consumption.  Still working on my amphib landings.

Timor AO
Lautem was bombarded no real damage done.  He did close the AF but I didn't need it at the time.  I am going to try and sneak in an IR, engs and some supply.  I have some ships 6 hexs away that haven't been spotted.   This might also be a trap!!!!

Horn Island
I haven't seen any Jap subs for awhile.  Well they popped up around Horn Island.  I had about 6 ASW attacks in one day.  We damaged  5 or so subs on that day.  The next day we sink one.

Marshalls
I think Koniu might of gave up on Roi Namur.  No AC present for a long time now.  I have been bombing it but my bombers have only been getting maybe 15 or so hits a day.  He did run some CLs into Maloelap and sunk 5 xAKs.  I was hoping to slow him down and have him in range of my bombers but no.  I did lose some bombers in this area though.

I need to write stuff down if I am going to post several days at one time.  We have sunk by sub a PB, 2 AKs, AMc, and a TK.    That's all I can remember right now.

How do I isolate a quote? (just a part of a previous post)


Just saw this and did not see a reply, so I will offer two methods:

1. Use the quote button to put the whole quote on your posting, then highlight and delete the portions you do not want
to include in your post. The author attribution will be included when you use the quote button.

2. Highlight and copy (Control + C) the portion you want to quote. Start your post and paste in the copied quote. In front
of the quoted text set the quote coding .. square brackets around the word quote.. and at the end of it put the end quote
code .. square brackets around /quote. Remember to add the attribution of the author's name before or after the quote. The
text between the quote/unquote will be in a box with white background while your posting text will have a gray background.
