I was complaining about fighter navy pilot situation but it is not as bad as i was thinking.
After filling all front line squadrons (280 planes total) with pilots + 3-5 in squadron reserve i still have 59 elite pilots (80+) in TRACOM.

Reserve is empty but around 80 pilots is close to end training. They have air skill 70, def skill 60+ and XP 45-49

Of course it is not so wonderful. Kaga air group is in Japan waiting to mother ship end refit so he is on training duty. And also one of 45 size ground based sentai is also working as training group because i do not have pilots and a was needed those planes he has.

Navy bomber pool looks good i have 270 trained pilots and all front line group full of pilots.

As for Army pilot pools.
I have 290 fighter pilots and 283 bomber pilots.

So far total pilots loses are.
387 MIA, 262 WIA, 812 KIA

Today I spoke with Docup about HRs. After short conversation we decided to make small modification to one and add one new.

From today:

-No 4Es below 10,000ft, only Navy 4Es can fly below 10,000ft and only in naval attack mission.

And new one:
-West Allies are not allowed to use Soviet AF.

Finally i start killing Chinese units.
They will back to game after 30 days with 33% of TOE.

But i have question.
What rule is to have those free squads and devices. Do they are taken first from "normal" poll and when that pool is empty thy are given as free to fill 33% TOE. Or they are free form beginning.

And do they are trained with good morale or they will need time to train to nation specific XP.

I asking as i never play enough long as allies to know that.

Chinese units come back inexperienced and with poor moral. But they do not take from the regular Chinese pools for replacements. They get magic troops, brought up from the villages and given a uniform and an old gun.

This is why it can be good to injure Chinese units to the point that they are not effective and then leave them contained. Opinions differ on this though, as it is then more likely they can mess with your LOC and it does cost the Chinese a lot of supply to support all of those crappy re-spawned corps. They can also suicide themselves in river crossings or hold up your armies in rear guard actions.

If you get to Chungking eventually and have to deal with the re-spawned troops, you probably won't care that there are 25 low moral and low experience 1/3 strength Corps in there eating all of the supply.

Thanks.

I have decided to kill as many chines troops as i can. Every chines unit i kill will need at lest ~400 new squads from real pool to replace (as they have 700 in TOE). And i think chines squad production is 350 month. An also they will be out front line for long time eating supplies. So its better to have them there than on front wasting supplies to try them kill them second time.

And wining those battles make me happy.

They came on morning.

Burma
Very quiet as whether stops any activity.

Ambon Battle
Night starts with bombardment of Lautem. 3BB shot all they have killing only 150 enemy soldiers and destroying one B-25C Mitchell.

FT TF in Ambon unload 1300 supplies. One of CLs take hit. (25 sys damage).

On morning 120 navy bombers attack Lautem gaining almost nothing.

Later that day ground troops attack. Australian battalion fight well(his presence was surprise for me). Today we fail to capture base.

Enemy TF detected SE of Ambon. Tomorrow cruiser will investigate. Probably replenishment TF.

Coral Sea
Navy bombers attack Luganville port. DM left on fire.

China
Intensive day.
At night Ki-48 attack Changsha AF. 20 Lancers CAP over base. No hits or loses on both sides.

On morning 120 army bombers attack Chinese troops on open ground. They kill 600 enemy soldiers and disable 65 squads.

Allied air force decide to counter attack. 17 unsorted bombers attack Hankow.
9 Wellington Ic destroyed only one bomber attack AF witout hits.

Later 25 P-40E Warhawks (probably bomber escort as they sweep on 11k ft) sweep Hankow. We shotdown 11 for 3 Oscars. 2 pilots WIA.

On total we shutdown 20 enemy planes for 3 fighters and two WIA pilots.

R&D

A5M5 advance to 6/43

PS. I need to find units to end this Ambon madness. I thinking on taking one ID from Burma. Also ID in Saumlaki will be in reediness soon. And i two weeks another can be bought from Manchuria. Sooner i end this sooner i will be able to react on other Pacific fronts.

After one day delay turn send. Also probably in next week turn rate will be slower as in Poland we have "Long May Weekend" (9 days for only 3 free days taken in work) and I planing to spend some time far for PC)

Also Docup i getting married in May and he will be out for 10 day to honeymoon. He was telling something about sneaking WITPAE to his future wife laptop but i think they will have better things to do.

Now little about game. I have notice that Docup is sending lots of transports on Espiritu Santu -Elice Islands - Fhoenix Islans rout. They are unescorted and sailing close to Tabiteuea.

I have already re-base Sentai of G3M3 there hopping to have use of his long range.

I think Docup is feeleng too secure knowing that KB is in Banda Sea. I hope he do not know that two CVs and three CVLs are in Truk. Right now they waiting for fuel but in 2 weeks i will try use that allied confidence to my favor.

8 July 42

Burma
Quiet.
Bomber in rear area waiting for better weather. I was not able to launch any offensive action from 3 days.
Two last Seentai waiting to upgrade to Ki-49IIa, in next few days i will have 150 armored bombers. Nice.
Troops marching north.

Allied lost today 5 C-47 from ops. They must use all available transports to send supplies to China

South Pacific
G3M3 from Tabiteuea need only one day to find firs victim. They score two torpedo hits to big xAP near Canton Island. 21 hex normal range make them masters of that Pacific area.

Ambon Battle

KB north of Saumlaki. BB TF is now safe in Makassar so KB is returning to port.
AKEs in Makassar do good job. They rearm 3 BB and 2 CAs in one turn.

Enemy TF spotted in Kaimana dot base. Intel showing xAKLs. Tomorrow i will visit them.

Bombers from KB reported 7 hits to allied SS during ASW patrols.

Recon showing TKs and three BBs in Darwin hex.

Koepang AF operational. First fighter squadron will land tomorrow. From today i will start reckoning allied bases in north Oz.

China
Japanese bombers attack Kukong.

I have heavy CAP over Hankow(150 fighters). Today 9 B-25 attack. 5 of them return home when they found that they are unescorted.
2 where shot down, two attack AF destroying 4 planes on ground. I was expecting enemy sweep so i fly on 20k and bombers fly on 10k and my fighters where to late to stop them. I will CAP also on 10k and 15k tomorrow.

I am moving few more ID to north china. Recon is showing heavy forces there.

Truk
Shokaku fighter Sentai upgraded to A6M3a.

Fuel reserve in Truk and Rabul is gone. 75k tons is sailing but i will take few days and most of it will go direcly to ships tanks.
I need at lest 100k in base to fell save.

Ambon Battle
Soryu have luck today. Again. Torpedo launch from US SS hit him on starboard side but no explosion.

45 B-17E attack ground troops in Lautem. Losses are small but unit again have high disruption.
Tomorrow they will have CAP from Koepang

Darwin reckoned first time from weeks.
Intel showing 160 fighters, 200 bombers, 100 other planes.
In port mostly small ships. On sea few CLs and DDs, probably also British carrier and few smaller ships. No cruisers or battle wagons.
I thinking about bombardment raid.
Tomorrow i will reckon also Derby and Broome and after that i will make some decisions

China
Japanese bombers attack Nanyang kiling 600 Chinese soldiers and disabling 80 squads.

WC
SS sunk Liberty class xAK near LA

Ndeni
22 enemy fighters on base.

I have few targets that are potential naval Bombardment targets.
Ndeni, Luganville, Darwin or other north Oz bases and Akyab.
All those bases are close to me, in all those raids i will be able to give air cover to BB and most important all have planes on AFs.

After battle loses are:
14xP-40E, 5xHurricane IIb Trop (17A2A, 2 ops)
8 Oscars (3A2A, 5 ops) 3 pilots KIA

Ambon
FT TF unload supplies in Ambon. Probably because i set them by accident on cruise speed they take some serious hits. No good, but only one ships(DD) is serous damage and on fire rest will need few days in port or shipyard. Stupid mistake.
At lest groud forces in Ambon have dicen supplies reserve.

PS. DD on fire is not on picture.

B-17 attack ground forces in Ambon. Minimal losses.

Unlucky day

Sakhalin
How this happen i will probably never know.
I have naval search in area. Many ships in picket line. And still allies manage to attack my cargo ships in Shikuka base.

CA Pensacola and two DD attack cargo sips at night. They sunk 8 xAK and two PBs.

On morning they where spotted near Ketoi-jima but my torpedo bombers from Hokkaido not manage to locate targets.

It will impact resource transport for few days until loses will be replaced.

I think it is weather fault as from last days i have everywhere in north Japan extreme overcast so probably my search planes have problems flying.

From today CA Pensacola is on black list.

As i can`t have more search planes i will set more picket ships there.

Also i thinking to send there CVEs. They can do ASW and in case of another attack they maybe attack enemy ships.

Ambon
I think my DD in Ambon have luck today. On morning search planes spotted xAKL in Ambon hex. G4Ms sunk it later.
I think he transport supplies but also I am sure that on night hex was sweeped by enemy combat ships. Luckily my DDs where returning to home to reload ASW ammo.

I hope that xAKL not unload supplies.

I have found what mistake i made setting naval patrols and picked ships.

First i have no patrols in Okhots Sea at all, and second i left blind spot in north part of Kurile Islands. More ships sailing to close that hole also patrol arcs adjusted

Hey, better than having had them land in HOKKAIDO!!!

Yep, get your pickets in place. No more FP groups to spare for NavSearch? By this time I always have at least 2 or 3 "independent" groups available for resize for this duty.

Today I have start operation "Iron Rain"

Derby are now AF lvl 6 so i expecting Liberator raid to Makassar.

Pacific
KB2 sailing south from Truk. They will take part in twin operation to "Iron Rain". I call it "Iron Thunder"

China
In last days i kill 1500 Chinese soldiers and disable 200 squads in air attacks.

Burma
Action over Katha was total failure.
Why?
None of fighters ordered to sweep fly. Lucky also bombers do not fly.
Only G3M3 attack enemy in jungle but they where intercepted by allied fighters. I lost 7 of them. Also 4 Oscars lost during LCAP over Katha(i was hopping they make ops loses of allies after sweep bigger)

Saumlaki
Two allied CAs bombard base. On morning daily dose of air bombardment. Standard day.

Salomons Islands
Liberators attack Tulagi

China
Allied LCU icon in Changsha have USA color. FoW or allies transfer units by air to China

Only action in Burma today.

First at night medium bombers attack Lashio.
They achieve nothing. Only 3 damage to AF.
AF was empty all planes where evacuated to Chiang Mai.

On morning B-17 attack Chiang Mai

Morning Air attack on Chiang Mai , at 58,53

Weather in hex: Overcast

Raid detected at 40 NM, estimated altitude 14,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 12 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 145

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 56

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-43-Ic Oscar: 7 destroyed (17 lost - 8 A2A, 9 ops, 3 pilots KIA)
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed on ground

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 1 destroyed, 48 damaged (10 destroyed - 7 A2A, 3 ops)

Airbase hits 2 no damage to base

Losing 17 fighters is never good but shotting down 10 B-17 is.
And i we count that i lose only 3 pilots i can claim victory in that skirmish.

Burma
Ground bombardment near south of Akyab. We manage to destroy 12 enemy squads for 4 disabled Japanese squads.

P-38 sweep Chiang Mai but they found nothing.

SC in Rangoon hex do few new holes in Dutch sub.

Moulmein cleared from enemy mines.

Derby (Oz)
Cruiser TF and BB TF engage ships in Derby base.
Cruisers do very good job not giving chance to BBs to give single shot.

Firs they engage CL TF sinking all enemy ships:

Day Time Surface Combat, near Derby at 64,127, Range 14,000 Yards

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
Seagull V: 1 destroyed

Japanese Ships
CA Takao, Shell hits 1
CA Myoko, Shell hits 2
DD Yugumo, Shell hits 3, on fire
DD Oshio

Allied Ships
CL Perth, Shell hits 11, and is sunk
DD Worden, Shell hits 9, and is sunk
DD Dale, Shell hits 9, and is sunk

Later they found another enemy TF

Day Time Surface Combat, near Derby at 64,127, Range 14,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
CA Takao
CA Myoko
DD Yugumo, Shell hits 2, heavy fires
DD Oshio

Allied Ships
CL Leander, Shell hits 14, heavy fires, heavy damage
DD Bagley
DD Hotspur, Shell hits 6, on fire

I am 99.9% sure that CL Leander sunk also as he was hit 13 times by 20cm shells (11 of them penetrate armor giving critical, severe or internal explosion demage). Also his FP are listed as destroyed on ground. Also DD Hotspur shoul be in bad shape after 2 20cm and 4 12cm hits

Damage to cruisers:

It is time to go home.

Nicely done. You should be able to do a lot of this if he keeps ships in NW OZ bases.

20 June 42

Derby operation

After Obvert post i have decide to change little my plans. CA TF was ordered to sail north as he has almost no ammo. An he was replaced by BB TF, his orders - bombard Derby.
KB was ordered to stay 200nm north from Derby to give air cover (200 fighters). Bombers ordered to ASW and NSerch only.

Night
First action at night CAs leaving area found damaged DD Hotspur. But after few minutes both sides decide to disengage. DD Hotspur was hit by 12cm gun (severe damage)

Night Time Surface Combat, near Derby at 65,126, Range 6,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
CA Takao
CA Myoko
DD Oshio

Allied Ships
DD Hotspur, Shell hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Later that day bombers from KB have report 5 hits to DD Hotspur.

On the same night 4 B-26 Marauder bombers attack DD sailing north. But no hits.

Day
When day start i was disappointed. Bombardment TF should already bombard Derby instead he move ony half of distance (probably fuel adjustment). When they spotted and reacted to enemy TF. It was surprise for me. Two enemy CAs with 4 DDs. I think Docup was trying to intercept my Cruisers from last day or attack invasion force(there is no invasion).

Battle start very good for Japanese fleet. First volley from BBs score three 36cm hits to CA Canberra. Allied forces return fire but small caliber shells just bounce from BB armor.
After few more 36cm hits CA Canberra sunk and allied force decide to retreat. They almost manage to do that but when the where almost out or range of Japanese guns two 36cm shells hits CA Dorsetshire. He slow down dramatically and distance from 24k drop to 10k. CA Dorsetshire have no chance 3 more 36cm plus small caliber hits and he sinking. Japanese forces manage to hits few small and medium caliber hits to allied DDs. in last volley 36cm shell hit DD Inconstant blowing ship to pieces.

Day Time Surface Combat, near Derby at 65,125, Range 9,000 Yards

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
Seagull V: 1 destroyed
Walrus II: 1 destroyed

Japanese Ships
BB Hiei, Shell hits 6
BB Kirishima, Shell hits 3
BB Ise, Shell hits 9
DD Yukaze, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Numakaze, Shell hits 3, on fire
DD Yanagi, Shell hits 2, on fire

Allied Ships
CA Canberra, Shell hits 17, and is sunk
CA Dorsetshire, Shell hits 11, and is sunk
DD Express, Shell hits 1
DD Foxhound, Shell hits 5, heavy fires
DD Inconstant, Shell hits 3, and is sunk
DD Norman, Shell hits 1, on fire

On morning i was waiting for enemy planes but they no fly
Now i really must sail north. Staying 3 days in range of lvl 6 AF was risky, stay longer will be just stupid

Damage to Japanese fleet is minimal but one of DD is on small fire and other will need few days in shipyard

Banzai!

That's the spirit. If you know he's quick to react, you can take advantage of it. That's a great two day result and it looks like you may have gained control of the area for a while. Taking out 2 CA, 2 CL and 2-4 DDs should leave him short all around the DEI.
