7-8 JAN 42

LCU`s arrive to Bataan. I have bombard enemy units. Allies have 700+ guns vs. 450 Japanese guns, so this is what we got(lower). Enemy forces i Bataan 1200AV. I have 1700AV, fort level unknown. This is no good news. Probably only road to victory will be long siege and waiting when enemy will be out of supplies. I will give one day of rest to my units. Eny advise appreciated.

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 44760 troops, 475 guns, 111 vehicles, Assault Value = 1696

Defending force 46815 troops, 731 guns, 760 vehicles, Assault Value = 1241

Japanese ground losses:
720 casualties reported
Squads: 19 destroyed, 18 disabled
Non Combat: 5 destroyed, 9 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 10 (8 destroyed, 2 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
39 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 3 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Still no air missions over Singer, weather is against me.

Good news from China air war. After "destruction" of AVG 4 days ago i have manage to force them in another air battle with good result.

Morning Air attack on Changsha , at 82,52

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 55

Allied aircraft
I-15-III x 1
H81-A3 x 28
Hawk 75M x 5

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 3 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
I-15-III: 1 destroyed
H81-A3: 12 destroyed
Hawk 75M: 2 destroyed

I have also sweep Rangoon

Afternoon Air attack on Rangoon , at 54,53

Weather in hex: Light cloud

Raid spotted at 24 NM, estimated altitude 24,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 7 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 12
Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 10

Allied aircraft
H81-A3 x 30
Buffalo I x 13

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 3 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
H81-A3: 5 destroyed
Buffalo I: 5 destroyed

I have manage to destroy in one day 40 enemy fighters with lose of 10 own

No so good info from ground war i china. I am now aligned in huge battle in Chengchow with 1500AV in place. Allies are moving to enter Chengchow with big forces so so i moving reinforces. My plan is to kept as many Chinese forces in Chengchow and try to flank city from south and north and cut as many Chinese units as possible. If i manage that it will be big victory. if they find what i want to do they will have three things to. Hold positions in bases and risk to be flanked. Fight with me on open ground where i have advantage or retreat.

Units are in move to capture Ambon, Kendari and later Koepang. KB is in place to support invasions. On surface they will have support of SAG(4xCA,6xDD). I have put some DMS`s in invasion TF to clear mines in Ambon.

I have also capture Manus and Kavieng, but i will not land in Rabul now. Main job of this invasions is to capture small bases north of Rabul and i hope pull some attention of allied forces. They are suported by mini KB and SAG (BB, 2xCA, 5xDD) mKB is holdink position East of rabul out of range of anamy serch planes. If i get lucky mKB will attack enemy ships retreating from Rabul or will attack them when they will tray to intercept invasion forces

Change of plans after recon of Ambon. There is at lest 4K man - it cam be 100AV or more plus some forts. I have to small forces to take it.
I will change Ambon invasion direction to Kenderi. Plan was to take Ambon firs and then jump to Kenderi but if was more because i want Ambon after first Ambon invasion disaster but i need to be flexible
Kenderi is also good and it have lvl 4 airfield. I will leave Ambon for while. they are not threat to me.

Plan is to take Kenderi, KB will give support to airfield against B17`s. I will also attack Soerabaja AF. Maybe i will destroy some B17`s and make some damage to AF. I have 27 G4M1 and air HQ sailing to area. so taking Kenderi will make it good base to cut off DEI from Australia.
Probably next target will be Koepang.

I giving one or two day of rest to my units in Singer, i have manage to destroy another 110AV with lost of 24 own but my units have problem with fatigue, disruption and supplies. one or two quiet days will be good to them.
After that i will deliberate attack again.
There should be no more that 200-300AV in Singer so it is only mater if few attack i think. My forces are 1500AV +400AV disabled .

PS: My problem is that i have no bigger plan from the beginning.
Next few days i will spend on analyzing what units are available and where is the best place to use it.

PS2. What i need to do replacements to LCU`s available?
I want to reinforce some LCU`s after i take Singer.
I know i need supplies, support. I will set them in rest mode. All HQ are or will be soon in Singer. I have 4,5k vehicles, 35k armament and 140k manpower in pool. Anything else?

Units need to be in supply with reinforcement "on".  Things that will help: in base, base is fully supported, within range of HQ's, close by other bases connected by rail .... so units in Tokyo will get replacements far faster than in Truk.

I got everything, but it will be Singer without rail connection to Tokyo. Is this going to slow much reinforcement process.
I have make some math and i have to reinforce 450 combat squads, 200 eng squads 50-60 vehicles and guns plus what i will loose in next few days

Good thing is, that most of the damage was taken by few bdg`s. Big units (divisions) take small damage (2 div took no more than 80 squads damage)

We will see what future will be. Units in Singer after one day of rest replenish supplies. They are in good shape. Disruption and fatigue drop down, so i have set them to attack again. I do not want to give time to the enemy. I have 1800AV set to attack. I do not think there is more than 300AV in Singer garrison. I will not stop now. After last few days of attacks, point of retreat is far behind me.

I have lost one DMS in in Ambon , he take hit from 15cm CD. Intel showing 4k man in ambon, and mine field is still i place so changing invasion direction to Kenderi is good decision. KB sunk 2xCM in Ambon.

In last turn i set some units to load on ships i Truk, but i forgot to give them destination order and they unloaded. I have decided to land in Rabul, first wave will have 170AV. In case of trouble i have 260AV in second wave but i think the are not going to be needed.

I still not decided to tray land in PM or Noumea. Noumea is tempting target. it will be big pain in *** for the allies at least in `42. Probably in 43 i will not hold them long.

Quiet in china. My unit are in move. it will take some time china are big. I have set LCAP`s over all targets i thing he will want to bombard next turn. If i get lucky maybe i will shot down few of his bombers

Question: I am sieging allies in Bataan peninsula. Can they move units from Bataan to Clark field,or my units block them in peninsula? After recon flight over them allied ground unit icon is showing that they are moving to CF.

Singers is just "OK".  What drives it is how many other bases are within supply range of where you are at.  Singers has only a couple.  Soerbaja/Batavia for example are really good.  Manila is really good.  Lots of nearby, rail connected, large bases (or bases that you can build up to be large) that you can pack with supplies.  LCU's will regain Devices fast in those situations.

Thank Pax. I will start test you words in next turn.

14 JAN 42

I have attack Singer again. Result was very good. 210 combat squads destroyed for 15 Japanese. I am almost sure that tomorrow i will take city. Singer garrison is reduced to 30-60 AV so worst case scenario is 2 days. I have also manage to reduce fort to 1 so it will be easier. I i planing to send most of guns from singer to Bataan to suport siege. Transport ships are already i move. I have also 9 DMSs in Kuantan. Thy will start mine sweeping Singer ASAP.

tip of a day: supplied and rested units fight better:)

Around Ambon i have sunk Few xAK and xAKL, sub near Soerabaja have sunk AD Black Hawk.

There are PT`s in Kendari but they should be out of torpedoes. Last nigh my SAG attack them, sunk one, i think most of them use torpedoes, and there is no tender around

KB will stay around for few days. Tomorrow fighters will sweep Soerabaja and bombers will go to bomb Ambon port. Two days in row Intel is showing SS in Ambons`s port. I need to take opportunity to sunk it.

Around Rabul not to many to report. I think that allied SAG pull back. He have no air support there and he will not risk another encounter with baby KB.
Rabul invasion 1,5 day of target. I am useing 2 small invasion TF to jump from base to base and i am taking north New Guinea bases.

Docup did not send me last turn because when he returned home after 24h day of work he forgot to attach save to email.

It give me occasion to spend some time over strategic map, and rethink some plans.

TOP SECRET:
I have also decided to attack Caledonia, and build base there. I want to cut off Oz from US or make hard to allies to supply Oz, I need to transfer more ships and and LCU`s to Truk to make this happens. One is 100% sure KB is needed to do this. So mKB will support Java/Sumatra invasions.
I will also land in Luganville as support invasion.

Fighters from KB sweep Soerabaja with good result. 30 enemy fighters shot down, i have lost 5

KB sailing north, they will meet AO TF near Manadao and refuel. Then they will go to scare little allies in Soerebaja, Batavia and Palembang there is few ships i want to sunk.

Baby KB 2 hexes west of Rabul. He was not spotted last turn so i have leave him in place. Maybe CA Australia will show again. In last 4 turns she was spotted two times around Lae. 25 Kate's set to use torpedoes. I wish that they show up

Starting to plan Sumatra/Java invasions. Units in singer have new preparations targets.
From tomorrow i will start sweeps and bombard actions. I will use 100 fighters and 120 bombers

I will send all ART units (400 guns) from Singer to Bataan. I bombard them today but it was wrong move. I have lost 600 man and allies 24. I have only 500 guns there and enemy have 700. Good news is they using supplies when returning fire.

I am sending few LCU`s to Burma it is time to take some bases around Burma border. Burma is secondary target. First i want to take oil fields.

Question. How many supplies is used bu 1200AV (45k man, 700 guns). I am thinking how many can be used by allies in Bataan per day. I do not think that in Bataan is more than 50k supplies, on 7 dec in Luzon was no more than 66k supplies

Google Alfred's Economy 101 thread about supply and supply usage.  Very detailed.  There isn't an easy answer as there are so many variables, but after you read his dissertation (better written than many PhD submissions that I have had to read) you should be able to formulate your estimate...

How much force are you going to use invading Palembang? Everything you now have at Singapore or less than that, CVs or without? The Allies can reinforce it pretty quickly and build up the forts if they decide to...

Palembang will be difficult to capture. Intel is showing 21 units there (around 300AV I guess). I think that Docup reinforced Palembang with LCU`s from Java and maybe Australians from Singer. Enemy units are not problem if i want i can have 2000AV there. Problem are engineers units and fortification. I do not want capture Palembang with destroyed oil fields.

I have 3 Div in Singer and few brd`s. I will use around 800AV to capture Palembang and around 500AV to land in Java. Rest of unit will stay in Singer as tactical reserve. If everything will go good they will go to Burma. I have also 1 Div sitting in Truk preparing to PM, i will use them if everything go wrong.

Plan is to land in first few days of February. Now i need to give time to my units to get rest and replace some losses

I will use mKB and only on D-day to give extra air support. Later i will use only LBA`s. I arleady have 100 fighters and 120 bomber in range of landing zones.

I have landed in Rabul and Shortlands.

KB have refuel and now will sail to Java and Sumatra to hunt little.

Singer port is open. I have clear 270 mines in one day. Minesweepers will now start to clear landing zones in Sumatra.

For Palembang I would use whatever you have available and then move to Java. It's a good defensive hex, and by this point it should be verging on 3 forts unless you've been bombing it. The more you put in there the more likely you can take it quickly and with a deliberate attack. if you have a prolonged struggle the facilities are more likely to be hit.

I really need to think about it. In this moment i have ~1300AV (2 DIV and 4 brg +some smaller units) 100% ready to attack. I have also few other units (1DIV and few brgd`s - ~800AV) but they need time to take replacements. I think they should be ready in 1-2 weeks.

Taking Singer cost me 20K man and 300 assault squads + 150 eng squad and some guns and vehicles. But as i can see from last two turns units are taking replacements with ~20 squads on day so it is good.

Probably you are right. Palembang is most important target for Japanese forces, at lest now.

Rabul and Shortlands taken. No enemy resistance. I will now retreat Fleet to Truk they need to refuel. Next job to them will be escorting transport ships with engineers and supplies.

One big mistake today. I have accidentally change range of my G3M2 in Kwajalein Island and they bombard Wake losing 7 planes in proses. 6 pilots die. Stupid mistake.

I now sure that i need more guns in Bataan. I have lost 700 men to 24 enemy soldiers in bombard attack. I will start loading guns from Singer today they should arrive to Bataan in 10-12 days.

In all bombings i have lost 13 twin bombers today.

Counter bombardment tends to be more effective than the attacker's. Also they are most probably behind higher forts. It might be a good idea to not bombard other than to get an idea on their AV if the terrain isnt clear and no or low forts. Aerial bombing the airfield will burn their supplies almost as quick and stops them from building forts.

I will try this new tactic.

Interesting thinks start to happen i China. I have 3,5k AV force around Chengchow. I will try to encircle city and catch china forces in trap.

As me and Docup have "only dot and base hexes invasions HR". I have question about Sumatra Invasion

Djambi north of Palembang is river port? If yes how big ships can go up river to make invasion. If no i have to think another places to invasion.

There is also Oosthaven and Benkoelen as option and of curse direct invasion to Palembang.

Any suggestion. A am expecting big forces in Palembang (21 units ~300AV) so direct invasion can be risky.

Unfortunately Djambi is not a coastal hex - it has no port so you cant send ships or land there.

Very bad news.

Any suggestion about landing tactics.
In 7-10 days i will have units ready to land, Transport an military ships are 5 days of Singer. KB east of Java sailing to singer. Mine-sweeping of landing zones start 2 days ago. I need few more days to be sure that there is no enemy mines.
Airfields are going to be fully operational in days. They are at "0" damage now but i need more aviation support.
I have 100+ fighters and 100+ bombers ready.
