Ah, yes, True Detective is one I want to see for sure. Some of the others I'll look into.

Mad Men is very good. Saw first four seasons, and haven't seen the latest. Have to check them out too.

Burma
Tanaka leading CA TF i have south of Rangoon rush toward DDs TF that sunk My ships last turn. They react toward enemy ending one hex from them before movement phase. They interception happens. It was long boring battle. No single hit. Lot of death fishes.

House of Cards.
Just saw first episode. Love it, just love it. Kevin Spacey is brilliant, Kate Mara is sexy. I quiting WITPAE for it, her, both.

YES!! Just wait!

There are a few more in that show too, including Robin Wright. I don't care if she is middle aged. She's hot! (And was the princess in The Princess Bride!)

Another quiet turn. I hate turns like that. Quiet before thunder.

First two KB TB air groups upgrade to B7A2 Grace(No PP tax). It is only 2x9 planes groups but i need to start from something.

The Princess Bride is a timeless classic tongue-in-cheek parody of the essential story line of boy saves princess.

A must see in my book.

"My name is Inigo Montoya and I search for the man who killed my father"......a line for which Mandy Patinkin will always be remembered.

In fact I can recall the day when just about every other character in MMORPGs were named Inigo Montoya.

6 May 1944

On fifth May allied DDs intercept one of Troop TF i had North of Ambon (1000+KIA). At six i send CA TFs to intercept them in return way.

Something goes wrong and instead on morning ships return to Ambon under CAP they end on waters between Ambon and New Guinea.

Both sides send planes to attack. For lose of 60 planes i sunk one Fletcher DD (probably).
In return Allies sunk DD and damage one CA(moderate damage from 1000lb bomb 38/8/8/1) and DD(minor damage). Another CA was hit by two 500lb bombs but Cruiser have only six sys damage.
CAP manage to shot down 50 allied planes.

Tomorrow i will try to intercept those blocked DDs north of my position. Maybe a can end that battle with my head up. I don`t see more combat ships in area so far but my NSerch have problems flying for few last days but it llok that only danger is from air. Damage CA will stay with main fleet. Still capable of 25kn. DD will return to Ambon alone.

I order KB to be ready to move at sea in 24h. If something go wrong i must be ready.
I was planing to upgrade another TB group to Grace but i will need to wait.

In Marshals, Franks shot down 20 Liberators for lose of 3 planes.I happy because i had in that unit 50XP pilots. Most of them is now ~60XP. It looks that damaging or destroying enemy plane is giving between 5 to 10 XP if You are 50 XP pilot.

Docup sent me turn. He write in mail that next turn will be nasty.

We exchange some emails ealier. I give him to understand that i will trow at him everything i have.
But it will not happen. I stood down all bombers and I reinforced Ambon CAP. Plan is to save damage ships not waste 100 or 200 bombers on two Fletchers.

On surface only threat i see is in Darwin so no chance to intercept my SAG tomorrow.

Still it make me nervous.

I will move tomorrow two BBs from Singer to reinforce waters in area. Two more Kongos sailing from Japan. Two CL sailing from Salomon Sea to Ambon. As long as i holding sea i can keep mu coastal bases save. Wihout naval protection he can naval bomb me, opening AFs to bombers.

Allied bombers attack ships in Ambon. 50 planes shot down. One 1000lb bomb hit DD that was already damaged after last turn. DD sunk.

P-38 strafe AO TF i have 250nm north of Ambon. After just 5(five) .50cal MG hits AO sunk after huge explosion with 8k tons of fuel on board

B-29 bomba at night Tarnate AF.

Ambon.
Cruisers move toward Kendari. I was good call. At night one or even two TFs enter Ambon hex. Suspecting Fletcher TF or even something bigger. At day i detect two TF in Saumlaki area that showing CAs.

DD TF intercept my amphibious TF northeast of Ambon. Sinking 3xAK and E and 800KIA . Battle was at night so i suspecting that allied ships have been close after last turn. I order reckon planes to reckon all dot bases in this area. Especially those East of Ambon. I think he is using one of them as hidden DD base. B5N2 attak them but all TT miss. I have luck all bombers manage to sneak below P-38 LCAP. I am moving 70 D4Y to area and some escort fighters. I hope DB will have more luck.

If i not manage to back to balance in this area i think it will force me to use KB to restore it.
Subs again back to Ambon waters.

Quiet in anther areas.

B-29
So far allies lost 15 B-29. All of them are ops loses. I know that at lest one group of them is in North Oz

Just few interesting things i did not mention during last report.

-Two new Inf Division unloading in Marianas. Total AV in Marianas reach 2200AV and is bigger every weak. Forts are ready, every base have 6-7 forts. Arty and AA units are in place. Some tanks waiting for transport from Japan. Two more ID waiting in Tokyo but they need first take some replacements. Guam is lvl 9 AF with 400air support, Saipan lvl 6?or 7?. Both places have aHQ. I have also three more lvl 4 AF in area all in aHQ range. In total Marianas are capable of support 1000+ planes without overstocking

-Reckon planes above Manila. I send 40 fighters in case B-29 will visit

-South of Ceylon i see disturbing TFs concentration. At lest 3 TF in single hex. DL is low. I have there only Intel from sub FP. I am sending few subs toward them maybe they can give me some visual confirmation.

I have now 40 army trained TT pilots. They training now search skill.

9 MAY 1944

Burma

Static from two weeks. Traffic on Bay of Bengal is static.
More is happening south of Ceylon. Today my sub detect 3 TFs in single hex 250nm West of Ceylon. Again DL is low but intel window shows 9 ships. Only one show his class and it is CV. Intel shows also 20+ fighters/bombers. Two more TF lloks like SAG or Cargo TF. Not sure.

I have 5 subs with FP in this area. I am moving them closer. 12 more attack subs i sailing from Singer toward that area.

Ambon.
I lost big AO north of Ambon. I manage to retreat CAs damaged few days ago. Entire battle cost me 2xDD, two damaged CAs and 60 planes. Allies lost DD and 90 planes.

I trying to resupply Ambon and bases around. But it is difficult with all those subs and SAGs Docup have in area. Reinforcements arrive. 2xBB, CA, 3xCL , 7xDD. Are now in area. They will add some firepower to 2xCA, and 7xDD SAG I already have in place.

I found that one of dot bases East of Ambon have AVP? in anchor. I think this base is used by PF. That way Docup was able to detect my ships so far north.

Pacific
Is quiet. Nothing to report. I sending 10 attack subs toward north Pacific. They will enhance search capability it this area. I already have there 3 FP subs.

China
Static.

R&D
J2M5 enter production today

IO
CV TF i see on IO is actually CVE TF probably on ASW mission.
So far my subs manage to avoid it. There are are also 3 or 4 surface ASW TFs.

Ambon
I manage to resupply Ambon and all bases in area. Reinforcements arrive. I have enough surface power to fight again. I only need to send more fighters.

Bombers sunk AVP i detect in one of dot bases East of Ambon.

On 12 May 100 Japanese bombers attack dot base south of Ambon. During raid they sunk 30 Torpedo Boats and 2 cargo ships. It is good feeling i hate them.

Naval ASW near Balikpapan sunk two enemy subs.

Damaged heavy cruiser anchor in Manila. I will pomp out water and in few days they will sail to Japan

House of Cards
Just end watching season 2. Great show, great acting. But 9 months of waiting for season 3, I think i can call it mental torture.
Time to find new show.

Burma
Mostly quiet. Docup moving lot of troops toward East Burma (map view). Right now i can hold him but 100k more troops moving there removes smile from by face. I am moving 2 more ID to that area. I think in next month i will abandon most of Burma and concentrate defenses between Rangoon, Pegu and Moulmein.

More ASW TF is hunting my subs in area.

Rangoon Refinery again is working. Oil from Singer start again moving north.

Marianas
More troops unloading there. Today couple mixed brigades arrive in Japan. They need few days to replace missing squads and will be moved to Marianas. They have decent TOE, and are PP free.

R&D
A7M2 Sam second factory repaired. Two more are very very close. Worst case scenario is Sam will enter production in December. I hoping for October, I dreaming about September

14 May 1944

Very intensive day

Burma
I think i will abandon Burma few weeks ealier than planed.
15k (at least) troops is marching by gray road from Magwe to Prome. I have 800 AV in Prome and 800A more as reserve but north of Prome i have nothing.

Ceram
Battle of Kaimana

Day earlier i saw big Cargo TF moving toward Kaimana. Intel also was showing probable SAG in Kaimana base hex.
Decision was quick. 70 DB and 70 TB was moved to Biak. They get 100 fighters for escort.
I also move 300 fighters to Ambon and Namlea with order to sweep.

So it begins. Start was good. Search planes detect enemy TF probably unloading troops in Boela hex. I have sweep ordered above that base but fighters stay on ground. But bombers decide to attack. 56 TB escorted by 48 Fighters. 46 Enemy fighters intercept Escort do wonders. Not a single bomber was intercepted less that 5 Tojo's lost. Over 30 escorts shot down

Morning Air attack on TF, near Boela at 80,110

Weather in hex: Light cloud

Raid spotted at 5 NM, estimated altitude 17,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 1 minutes

Japanese aircraft

Allied ground losses:
7 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 9 destroyed, 32 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled
Vehicles lost 40 (14 destroyed, 26 disabled)

Next actions where not so optimistic. First Dive bombers decide to attack ships in Kaimana hex. They finf heavy CAP. Not a single bomber get trough CAP

Morning Air attack on TF, near Kaimana at 83,113

Weather in hex: Light rain

Raid detected at 108 NM, estimated altitude 17,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 28 minutes

N1K2-J George: 6 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
P-40K Warhawk: 1 destroyed
FM-1 Wildcat: 1 destroyed
F6F-3 Hellcat: 1 destroyed

Then finally sweeps over Kaimana arrive. It was biggest disappointment of day. Simultaneous arrival of 134 Franks was good sing but strange thing happens. After juts few dives battle suddenly end. Les that 5 enemy planes shot down

Morning Air attack on Kaimana , at 83,113

Weather in hex: Light rain

Raid detected at 197 NM, estimated altitude 40,270 feet.

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
FM-1 Wildcat: 1 destroyed
F4U-1A Corsair: 1 destroyed
F6F-3 Hellcat: 2 destroyed

End day with another bloodbath. At PM phase TB again decide to attack but this time they go for enemy ships in Kaimana. Some bombers get trough CAP but instead Torpedoes they use bombs. Biak supplies where to low after morning phase to use torps. They find at lest 3 enemy cruisers in hex but miss.

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Kaimana at 83,113

Weather in hex: Heavy rain

This is the curse of coordination (or cooperation) with sweeps. They do very little. I had this happen a lot late in game. 200 fighters strike and get ... 4 enemy planes shot down. Better to have multiple waves when you have the advantage and the later ones do more against worn out opponents.

I notice that few times but i was thinking it was because bad weather o lack of luck.

I have crease idea. Look at first combat report in earlier post where Tojos make wonders.
It was because Docup place his CAP between 8-15k. No radar so no time to react.
Japanese strike arrive at 15k with fighters at 17k. They have dive against CAP, and even Tojos had green 40-50XP pilots they destroy CAP.

I look at last CV battles we have and how Docup is placing his CAP/LCAP over TF. He usually place them 5-15k sometimes at little higher but 20k was max what i saw.

What i thinking is that in next opportunity like CV battle i maybe set some LBA TB very high. It should give escorts some chances to have dive bonus on enemy CAP. Like in last turn
Because in my experience LBAs are attacking before CV planes there is chance that diving escort will make enemy CAP thiner for CV planes.CV strike will be still ~10-15 to coordination purposes between TB and DB but some LBA will go high. I will set also some LBA below 6k and some at 1k for low naval. That mix i hope will create some confusion in allied defenses. It llok good on paper.

Sorry for lack of updates. I have no much to tell. Game is slowly moving forward.
In last week not much that usual sweeps or bombing mission happens.

Interesting was that Docup place 20 P-51 in Cocos Island Island, shot down 18 of P-67 bombers but next day he load them on ships and retreat.

Most actions is happening in Burma. On map You see main axis of advance. New is that Docup is moving toward Prome. This move will probably force me in in next week or two to abandon Prome and Toungoo. New line of defence will be Rangoon. Pegu Chiang Mai line, after that Moulmein

When Burma crumbles, it happens fast. Decide now if you will defend Singers or not. If so, what units are you going to abandon there. Everything else, you need to secure your retreat to Hanoi ... never get fooled into thinking southerly retreat, you have to retreat East. Units retreating south are very likely to be lost. My index point here is basicall Moulmein ... by Bangkok you are too far south and the allies can block your retreat to Hanoi ...

Or better to say, units that retreat South are for the defense of Singers ... anything that you want to save have to move east....

Thanks. I also learn from Obvert`s last game so as You say i will retreat toward East.

Still not decided about Singer. I thinking about 2 or 3 Divisions trying slow down allied move toward Singer. But i still not sure it is worth.

Right now Burma is stable. I don`t think Docup is able to break my lines right now. He is now moving new troops toward Prome, but i will not fight in open. I will start delay ops in area north of Rangoon/Pegu but only to slow down his move and give me time to make new defense line around Moulmein.
I will leave two ID and Tank ID in Rangoon(fort 7, 3x terrain). He will have two choses. Capture it losing in process lot of troops or siege it in both cases it will be win win situation. I chose good but not best ID for that job ~60XP. I will give them some Arty and Flak. I will give them figter cover as long as passible. We will se what Docup will do.

In 8 days my tank divisions will upgrade to new medium Tank Type 3. I look at stats. It is not magic but well used they can be pita for allies. In next month i will retreat 3 Tank Div from Sumatra and i will move it to Marianas, 1 Tank Div will die in Rangoon and after rebuild will be moved to Luzon or Formosa. 3 Tank Div will fight in Burma and if lucky i will retreat it to Luzon or Formosa

Game is moving forward.

Burma
Allied troops enter Prome. I need tree days to abandon base so probably we will have some air and ground battles there. I have 700AV in Prome behind fort 6.
I retreat bombers from Burma to make place for fighters. I need to protect troops retreating south. Most dangerous will be open terrain north of Pegu. Over 1200AV will need to cross that hex.To give some chance to LCAP over that hex o moving unit with Type 3 radar to that hex.

I have over 1100 fighters ready to fight in Burma:

490 x Ki-84r
130 x Ki-84a
331 x Ki-44IIc
126 x N1K2
72 x N1K1

Ambon area
I am preparing small Naval/Air offensive. Only waiting for better moonlight.
Docup have over 300 planes in Saumlaki and over 250 fighters in Kaimana
Plan is to use navy to bombard those tow places at night and during day visit with bombers. Both places are only defended with TBs

I will use 4xBB, 4x CA, 7xCL and 17xDD
In air 300 bombers and 500 fighters
I have almost everything on place. In 48h 3xAKE (Lima class) full of supplies will anchor in Ambon to rearm fleet after bombardment. 10k AO is waiting near Kendari to refuel ships.

Just remember your exit is via Udon Thani, not Bangkok ... thinking Bangkok is how players get their units trapped. The allies can beat the IJA from Undon Thani to Vinh ... and that's how IJ players can lose 1/4 of their army trapped in SE Asia to no purpose ... so, I suggest setting up your defensive barriers appropriately to that geography.

There are a couple of checks; leadership and inspiration ... looks like failed one.

Salomons.
South of Salomon Sea i am fallowing TF that looks like Invasion Force. APA, AKA. CVE TF, SAG. But they behave strangely.
They show up first time 5 days ago. I detect them near Tagula Island. I lost tracking on them next turn, but Docup land with Commando Bn on Torokin. He write me that he made mistake.

Next turn i was watching all his forces moving back to Oz. Last turn I again detect the same TF South of Tagula Island again moving north.

Not sure what to do. For sure KB will not be used. I already decide that KB will not be used in defense of Salomons.

For me it looks strange . Docup is moving to slow for me. It almost looks like he want me to see those invasion and force me to react to it.

I moved some extra Air group to Truk. I have 400 fighters, 300 bombers and SAG in area but they will not engage until Rabul will be in danger.

KB
TB groups slowly upgrading to Grace. Already 70 of them operational
