Michaelm,

you remedied the off-map returning restricted air unit problem, and I thank you.

There is one more problem, though. Philippine air force units that return arrive in San Francisco. They are 'hard' restricted so there is nothing you can do with them. Either they have to appear with the possibility of an HQ change.

Again I gather that there is already a test that makes them appear here instead of Manila so perhaps the addition of allowing an HQ change added to the code is possible?

Have you tried the Q5A? It should release the static attachment if there is no national base for the group.

IMHO the Philippine units should just be removed for good.

Unfortunately, my PBEM opponent in Australia can't update till next weekend so we are still in q4. I'll patch my other install to q5 this evening and try it there. I'll get back to you with the results there.

Well...I would counter that the US government could have reconstituted them with the Filipinos living in the US... Marginal to the overall game....

I agree. The DEI units should be removed for good also. Allowing these units to return makes no logical sense.

Without knowing all of the supporting details for having them return, I would tend to agree with the above sentiments....

I am beginning to think that it would be simplier to just NOT allow statically attached groups and LCUs.

Probably more realistic also. What value were most of these units in the end? Most DEI and Philippine units were destroyed or reduced in effectiveness early one. Other static units are basically only training units. I wonder "what the point?"

I both agree and disagree.

I think in the case where the "national base" is still controlled by the allies, they should be allowed to be rebuilt.

Example: Java doesnt fall. The restricted air units should certainly be allowed to be rebuilt.

Now in cases where the 'national base' has fallen, then yes, it doesnt make sense to allow them to come back in Aden or San Fran.

Having seen a few pictures last night at the Thunderbird School of Global Management during a visit there, I would say that the issue should be investigated (for air units at least) before deciding.

Thunderbird was built on the training airfield of the same name (fun movie with the exquisite Gene Tierney of the same name and with shots of the field too).

I saw 'class pictures' of pilots that hang in the administrative building. There was a Chinese pilot class. There was a Filippino class. A couple Commonwealth classes. Etc. This was after a walk down just one hallway.

Historically, at least 2 air units composed of Dutch personnel formed in Australia during the war as RAAF units. A third also started to form but disbanded after a short time. I know its apples and oranges based on the original issue, but I don't see any reason why a limited number of Dutch & Filipino units should be allowed to return, not in all scenarios like 1 or 2, but in the what ifs, like Ironman.

I would suggest the Dutch units should return not in Aden, but in Sydney or Melbourne & the PI units in LA or SF. The only restrictions I would suggest is extremely low experience ratings for them and having only two to three A/C.

This would be fine for the Allies imho, but if you eliminate this for the Allies, would this allow Japan's AC and LUCs to also be unrestricted? If so THAT would be a huge mistake.

Upgraded to q5 but I had to withdraw the existing Dutch and Filippino units in Aden and SF for they were still restricted, unchangeable HQs. Now I have to wait 60 days before we know what happens....

Or, I can modify a scenario and see if it works....

I'll probably do the latter and get back to you, michaelm.
