Hi there bombin' compadres...
I'm in the third day of my glorious campaing against the hideous petrol industry of the third Reich (long campaign) and I just noticed that there is a B-17 ECM unit oddly based in Corsica. I just rebased it to italy to make use of it, thou I think it stated that it had 0 planes ready, I'm hoping my glorious workers will soon produce some of those planes I didn't know existed so I can use that unit in some raids.
Thou that's just it, I read in the forum that ECM planes are used in night campaigns, but as you can order night raid in my current campaign, lacking the necessary brit planes for that, I wonder if the designers just forgot that unit there, or if the unit is able to interdict radars. If so, then it need to be put a leader unit or is it enough to have it as another bombing group?
THX!

Hey Pizza <S>

That B-17 ECM AC will come online later in the campaign. Check your aircraft or is it units dropdown and check on that AC type. It should show "Arrive XXX days" or something. Dont recall as I am on my lunch break at work. If I understand you correctly you just started the 1943 Long Campaign? The only ECM AC you have now that you can use are the Wellington ECM with Bomber Command for use in their Night Operations. I believe you start out with a single squadron of 12 AC, could be mistaken.

As your campaign unfolds the capabilities of your various ECM AC will change and you will eventually have several different types of assets to employ in different types of Electronic Warfare. I would suggest that you do some research on the various types. In my post in The War Room on one of my last updates I included a listing of many different types of ECM equipment used on both sides. Using that as a referrence you can research what ever kind you currently have available.

Most players dont really use the ECM much as I believe they either dont understand it or are looking for more direct effects to the Luftwaffe. The effects of the various ECM are subtle but if you use them properly they can be effecting much of the time. You have to keep in mind that in the time frame of this game ECM equipment was in its most basic developmental period. So you should not expect dramatic effects. However if you build a more combined approach of employing your various Night assets you can be more effective.

Just some thoughts. If you are interested check out my thread in the War Room. It might help you a bit at least you might get some ideas. I am still working on my next set of posts but life has become very busy for me lately so it is being delayed a bit. At any rate this is a fantastic and challenging game and I hope you enjoy it. And for the record I dont necessarily know anything, just sayin.

Later,

KayBay

Hi there kaybayray, my fellow bombin' mate

Excellent group of posts the one you have there in the war room. Sadly most of it was about night bombing, and in my current oil long campaign I don't have any of that action, but I will remember to come back there three years from now when I finish my current campaign!

And I though the allies were difficult! Yesterday I started one with the Axis and not only I didn't figure out how to produce aircraft(which is impossible for anyone without 24 hours of free time for a year and an IQ of 200 for what I've read in a forum post "explaining" how that works)...I didn't intercept a single bomber! NOT ONE!...in fact I sent all the interceptors I had and they were intercepted instead of the other way around! As frustrating as it gets!!! but I'm sure the game doesn't work that way, I must be doing a ton of things wrong but there in nothing in the manual and very little in the forum that I've found so far as to how to play with the Axis in BTR.

I'll try trial an error but it is more than probable that things will be even worse with me in command than with the glorious Goering! Oh boy...oh boy...oh buy the glorious furher wont be at all happy about it...

Meanwhile in my allied oil 2 campaign yesterday I've planed a nice strike package to run as soon as I get back from work. I wont be needing ECM as in previous days I wild weaseled the hell out of the early warning radars over the glorious route to ploetsi, But I will test the ECM b-17 anyways as soon as I get it....if they is any radar running by the time I get it that is.

Best!!

Ps.
I am so addicted to BTR despite its needless complication due to the worse interface in the history of gaming that I just cant wait to lunch break at my work to check the forum!
