Just found out what new members have to deal with to join Matrix Forums.

It needs work guys.

Dumped my Cookies so I could fake being a new member (otherwise site tells me I am already one).

The process is a bit enigmatic, and just plain convoluted sounding. It is also likely costing Matrix new members as a result.

I have two grognards over at Wargamer Discussions that have had trouble with the process already (I have attempted to illustrate the needed steps already).

What eeeeeeexactly is with this On or before Sunday/ or after Sunday nonsense? I mean I have no idea what it means.

I was able to find out that selecting the former leads you to the ability to select the I Agree button so you can fill out the form and get registered.
I was able to see that selecting the latter, leads a person down the path where you are assumed to be under 13 and stuck needing a parental or guardian permission to post to the site.
That, and if the person mistakenly clicks on the registration form (which seems misleadingly logical), they get defaulted to being assumed to being under 13.

Now the need to verify age is logical, that is not the issue. The issue is that very badly worded and totaly mystifying selection of before or after Sunday.
Even politicians speak more clearly guys:)

This page is in bad need of being redesigned. I have been a member quite a long time, so clearly I have no idea how long this has been in place (how long has this been in place?).
It might be doing serious harm to new member traffic eh.

Good point! I have a couple of friends who may be joining the Matrix forums soon, so I hope things can be made easier by the time they can join.

Matrix didnt create this board.

V bulletin wrote the signup program.

No offense but a comatose ape could sign up for this board.

I think those that dont register are just lazy.

It may well be possible that you are indeed correct that it's idiot simple if looked at for 5 seconds.

Trouble is, if a person gets confused and says to heck with it, we might have lost a valuable contributor all the same.

In the world of wargaming, we don't have so many fans we can casually let ANY of them slip through our fingers willingly.

I have had a look at the forum set up from the admin side and we can't change the before/after Sunday thing. It is a hard coded part of the registration side of the boards. Sorry.

I guess the best we can do is patrol and hope to keep new members posted on the quirks of signing on.

Well, as an ape who just awoke from his coma :D , I'll tell you it is a very convoluted process, and not at all logical. For one thing, why do I need to register twice (once with Matrix site, and once for the forum)? But the absolute best part is the Born Before or After Sunday thing. It is only on the strength of Les' constant comments on other forums (fora??...flora??...fauna??) about how wonderful y'all were that I waded through the process in the first place. Whether that's your loss or gain remains to be seen.

Regards - Comatose Ape:p

Hello yoyo glad you were able to make it over here.

About the only good news in my evening this evening, but I will take it.

Hey, Les, sorry your evenings going badly. Maybe if Rocky ever figures out the registration process, you'll have something else to smile about ;)

BTW - nice site so far.

Gee...I don't know. I'm brilliant with an exceptionally high IQ and extremely good social skills with ego to match, and even I had a problem way back when I regestered. Had to write several e-mails to get it right. And strangely, everytime I tried to log on and couldn't, I did kinda feel like a comatose ape. ;)
