When it says Large and Huge maps require 2gigs of Memory, it's talking about RAM right? Not dedicated video memory?

It could care less about video memory. And I think it require more than 2G on the largest maps. At least I get out of memory errors on the largest maps with 3.3G or thereabouts once the game matures.

Well, i've got 8gigs of RAM. Video card is a pretty standard Geforce GT 520 with 1gig of Video memory. My personal theory is that I should be able to run the game on any settings. Am I right?

You should be able to. But if you really are will be discovered once you have played your game to completion. Worth a try.

You will have no problem with 8 GIG's of RAM and 1GB Video Card.

The problem comes when a system says it has 2GB of RAM but some is shared for video memory.

Yes I ran it on 4 Gigs on the largest galaxy with no problems

Only performance problems I had were to do with the mouse, scrolling a bit laggy (and no diagonal scrolling which is a bit annoying) and a strange problem I reported in tech forum but nobody else had it where my mouse cursor would randomly switch between the game ones and the windows one.  However since I last played I have doubled my RAM and got a new much more powerful processor (and a new mouse)

Well this is a buy killer   I have an old klunker I need to replace and only have 1 Gig of RAM .  Maybe I'll look this game up when I upgrade within the next year

I'm only talking about the really big maps. I don't imagine even the oldest computers would have that much trouble on a smaller map.

*And to elaborate on that, the way I see this game taking up resources has less to do with the amount of stars, and more to do with the amount of races in play. A small map with 5 other empires will be much less resource intensive than a small map with 10 other empires. And it gets much more severe when you're talking about the difference between a HUGE map with 10 empires, or with 19.

Could be wrong though.

I have played this on my rather slack laptop, but it has 2G of ram. But it is not even a proper laptop, so the processing and graphics power is not stellar. It worked, but.

They have also hinted that Legends may be some 20-30% optimized which could help a lot. And there is still a lot of fun to be had on smaller galaxies. It is the small that have most of the resource shortages
