FINAL RUN ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As a parting shot to the game we did a post-game test run with different settings on the last turn. It taught me some things, even to the last here. If setting a bombardment, no matter what you think you might need, go for flank speed if you really need to get there. This turn the BBs arrived in Moppo, got creamed by a bunch of CLs and DDs, and two were sunk with the rest slinking back damaged. The IJN CLs did well, as did the CAs, and survived the encounters for the most part. Lots of small ships were sunk. I also have some things to wonder about and test more. The sweeps I sent to Moppo, nearly 1,000 planes total, didn't really do much in spite of huge numbers coming in together. I've noticed this a lot in the later game with the Japanese sweeps, less so with the Allied big sweeps. They seem to devastate CAP, where ours had very small results for the number of planes involved. Watching the replay it seemed to be only about 10-15 actual engagements before they all broke off and the next groups arrived. Nothing like 200 passes. Maybe it was just the thunderstorms in Moppo this day. Here are some edited reports. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR July 1, 45 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Time Surface Combat, near Moppo at 100,54, Range 12,000 Yards Allied aircraft no flights Allied aircraft losses OS2U-3 Kingfisher: 2 destroyed SOC-1 Seagull: 2 destroyed Japanese Ships BB Mutsu, Shell hits 4, on fire BB Yamato, Shell hits 5, Torpedo hits 1 BB Musashi, Shell hits 10 BB Fuso, Shell hits 14, on fire BB Ise, Shell hits 4 BB Hyuga, Shell hits 9 DD Hinoki, Shell hits 3, on fire DD Kashi, Shell hits 1, on fire DD Kaya, Shell hits 1 DD Nara, Shell hits 3, on fire DD Tsubaki, Shell hits 13, heavy fires, heavy damage DD Keyaki, Shell hits 1 DD Yanagi, Shell hits 19, and is sunk DD Odake, Shell hits 8, heavy fires DD Kaba, Shell hits 3 Allied Ships CL Birmingham, Shell hits 13, and is sunk CL Vicksburg, Shell hits 4, on fire CL Dayton, Shell hits 10, and is sunk DD Hugh W.
