SUBS: A juicy convoy sighted by I-162 on the 7th, but it's good hunting leads to its own demise. On the second attempt at an attack it is hit and forced to surface by DD Gilmer.

On the 8th S-44 hits an xAKL trying to supply Cold Bay.

On the 9th Gurnard takes out a Lima (carrying a base force to Den Passar) near Daito Shoto, but thanks to the Cribtop Lifeboat system, most of the troops are rescued and still en route.

Grayback sends one of our new Standard-A class TK to the bottom near Hollandia.

SO PAC: Corsairs sweep Noumea on the 7th creating havoc for the mini-kB zeros. On the day 7 are lost for 2 Corsairs.

JPC: Well, a massive 32 unit stack has indeed moved across the river from our brigade on the mountain road between Chengtu and Tsuyung in China. If he does mean to cross, I will attempt to bomb and pull this unit back, let his supply lines get long, and reinforce the road from Kunming and Kweiyang. With less than 200 LI and no HI working in China, I can't imagine there is much supply to go around even if he's flying a bunch over. I don't think he is though as he probably has to supper the troops in the Burma jungles. He is losing a few C-47 a day, so they're flying somewhere.

BURMA: The stack hasn't moved. I won't move until it does.

Reinforcements have arrived into Rangoon. I've decided to put the air HQ in Mandalay. A garrison force will add to defenses in Prome bringing AV there to around 400. Another division is 4-6 days out.

On the 7th my layered CAP did very well against a Lightning sweep. This is the first time the sweeping planes have gotten sucked down to deal with Oscars and Nicks and then been attacked from above, this time by the 45 A6M5 of the 251 Ku S-1 (formerly the Tainan Ku S-1). The numbers and the layers resulted in 10 Lightnings shot down or lost to ops for just about an equal number of our guys. Only 4 pilots KIA out of 23 losses total on the day, which is great.

PACIFIC: The raiding TFs in the Central Pacific have seen nothing out here yet. He may be completely aware of their presence, or maybe nothing is moving at this point. He tends to use big convoys sporadically rather than many small ones. We;ll give it another week and then commence the recon portion of the mission.

Burma - I told Joc that the Indian and then the British Infantry Squads have the '43 version come out in 2/43 and 3/43, respectively. Thus, in about two to three months he will have stockpiled enough to upgrade a divided division. Their Anti-Soft values have gone up two or three points, but their Anti-Armor has increased significantly. You can then upgrade a whole division in about a week this way. Thus, be careful with your Tank Division in open terrain. It will get destroyed in short order.

As an Allied player, I would advance with a large number of those large AA brigades to keep your Helens at bay. Look for a stack with at least three AA units as the spearhead of his advance. In one short lived game, I had over 125 large AA guns at Ledo. I lost some C-47s, but nothing compared to the number of Helens he lost.

SUBS: Our ASW TFs keep giving the US subs a chase, getting shot at multiple times a day, but seem only rarely to be able to hit back. A dangerous game now that the torps work. Several other TFs also get lucky on the 11th, including a slow TK that should have been nailed by the 4 torps shot at it near Balikpapan. RO-34 can't get a shot off against the APDs moving more men to Tanna while the IJN CVs have moved out of reach.

On the 12th Guardfish gets caught by the DDs and pays the price, taking 8 hits and showing heavy damage after the attacks.

SO PAC: Air lifts continue from New Caledonia and Anatom. Most of the divisions are out and now some smaller troops are being targeted for lifts.

BURMA: Katha reaches level 5 forts. This is crucial, and should make it a tough nut to crack.

Helens resume bombing of the Allied stack in Burma on the 11th and resume getting pocked by flak for their efforts. One is lost. The aim is not to hit the Allied troops so much as to use up their supply, and judging by the amount of fire coming up, a fair amount must be burned with every attack.

On the 12th Tojos come in and have trouble with Hurris over the Allied troops. I've found at equal number the Hurricane IIc do very well against Tojos. In fact, it's really only the P-40s that they dominate in sweeps. Other Allied aircraft fight on more or less equal terms.

For some reason the escort does not fly with the Helens and the Hurris on LR CAP knock down half a group. I hate to give them easy kills. The LR CAP trying to interdict supply transport does play a part and takes out a few Hurris as they dive on the lower bombers. I was experimenting with a low bombing run, at 8k, to see how bad the flak would get. It was bad, killing almost as many Helens as the fighters.

On the 13th Jocke used night raids against Katha. The field damage was minimal, but he did hit 5 fighters on the ground. I'll wait before i try any night CAP to see if this continues.

PACIFIC: No sightings of anything out here. I'll keep waiting for a bit as tracker shows no detection on any of the TFs except for a 0/1 on the AV 2 DD closest to Hawaii, (still 25 hexes from Pearl).

REINFORCEMENTS: The CD gun units arrive in the HI. Where to put them is the question?

I'm leaning toward the big one going to Ndeni. It has level 5 fields, good forts at 4.1 and growing, 357 AV, is close in to major airbases in the Solomons and thus could be a tough landing even without the CD batteries there. With them it might be horrendous. But I feel he can't bypass it either. It's close enough to LR CAP from Tulagi/Lunga, and bombing alone won't keep it suppressed while trying to move up the chain.

Other good options include; Canton Island, 180 AV, level 4.3 forts, Tabiteuaea, 160 AV, level 3.8 forts, Milne Bay, 384 AV, level 4.3 forts.

I'd like these to go somewhere where they'll be wiped out early and can be bought again to be placed farther back in the second tier of defenses.

Thanks for the heads up about the tank divisions. I hope to stick to the bases and use the forts to help defend. I'll have to start forming a secondary line soon in case this first doesn't hold long though.

He has definitely brought the AA brigades!

I can't touch his troops from the air without losing several Helens a day just to flak. The flip side is that he might be using a lot of supply if those have to fire every day. So that will be my goal. To make them fire. I might even get a couple of rookie pilot groups set up just to bomb these troops, knowing I'll lose most of them. Sholdn't waste the 70-80 experience guys on them.

SUBS: Snapper takes a hit from ASW near Dongalla. On the 15th KXVII takes 3 hits near Saigon, 2 solid.

JPC: There is still a Chinese unit near Kunming on a back road. Not sure why he's kept it here but it's free game to bomb if it's not in the protected area.

PACIFIC: Nothing happening.

BURMA: Another series of night raids hit the fields at Katha. I lose 9 planes to these. I put the zeros on night CAP to see what difference that would make. It made a lot when Jocke raided heavily during the day on the 15th!

More than half of the zero group were destroyed on the ground and it was the bloodiest day in the air during the entire war. At the end the Allies had lost a reported 45 planes while we'd lost over a 100 in the air and about 40 on the ground, for 145 on the day. Yuck. All groups will be switched out for fresh and I'm hoping the ground crews can get the fields back to working order by tomorrow. It's a level 5 base and has 65 field damage and 72 service. Yuck again. If he comes tomorrow there will be more bloodshed, and it could be nearly as ugly.

Still, if the losses become more equal as they might have been were the zeros on CAP, the Allies won't like losing so many planes in a day. My Tojo pool is getting low, but the Oscar pool is not, and I'll switch out more groups if needed. More Nicks have been added in case his escorts don't fly again.

SO PAC: Some ASW comes out searching from Suva and the reinforcements to Tanna look to be landed and his ships returning to Fiji.

SUBS: Tunny comes in near Hong Kong on the 16th and nails TK Ayazono Maru, a 14 knot 8k ship, on its second attempt. The air ASW groups are not doing their job over here. I have some decent ASW skill, but their Low Nav skill is in the 30s, so no hits on the subs that are sitting on our Chinese coastal route. I'll have to move a few DDs down to work this area.

JPC: I'm bombing the stragglers still in the mountains near Kunming. Too much intel gained from these units being here.

PACIFIC: No sight of anything. I wonder if he knows what is here? No detection rises according to tracker on any of the TFs.

BURMA: A decent battle over Katha on the 17th. Even though he shuts the base for a day, he pays for it. We came out ahead in this one, the Allies reported to have lost 48 planes to our 29 on the day.

On the 18th Lightnings came to Katha on their own, and we got even numbers downed against them with layered CAP. For the day 10 were reported downed or lost to ops! Our Helen run went in unescorted though and suffered. Luckily I'd just changed out to replacement pilots.

SO PAC: Noumea gets plastered on the 17th, Anatom no the 18th. Same old. The 38th division is about to load up and head to Burma. Now I'm finishing the extrication of the 16th from Anatom. There are 34 mechanized support and 7 tanks I may have to leave there.

Reinforcements: None. Several planes moved forward in R n D. The Tojo is now being changed to researching the IIc model as the IIb is due next month. It's going forward at about 80 points a month. The Judy D4Y2 advanced to 11/43 and is moving up at 100 points per month, plus an occasional boost from the engine bonus as it hovers around 500 in the pool.

SUBS: Jocke and I have noticed that there are a lot of duds against DDs, even after 1/43. It should be hard to hit them when they're on ASW, but mine are hit nearly every turn by duds. It seems odd. When the IJN attacks Allied DDs, the torps almost aways miss, but there are few duds. A good example is the Grouper, which just shot two at DD Yayoi, then took 4 hits.

JPC: I started bombing the two straggling units roaming the Southern Mts. and I'll keep this going as a division moves down to et at them. Annoying.

PACIFIC: Still no detection level rises. I'll move toward the South a bit to see if anything is moving there.

BURMA: Tojos swept Ledo and faired poorly on the 19th. This is a small unit full of newly trained pilots. I wanted to see the difference between 50/70 guys in Tojos and 70-80/70-75 pilots with kills painted on their fuselage. Now I know. I've reloaded the unit and it will post at Kunming for deep air defense.

SO PAC: All forces South of Ndeni are scheduled for removal. Anatom is nearly empty. In a week it'll only be a few tanks and motorized support from the 16th division. I'm not going to risk ships getting those guys out. Then I'll work on New Caledonia and finally Luganville. The bases are not built up enough to defend, and I'd like him to start trying to take them before he has CV superiority. More chances for intercepts.

The G3M3s all the way from Tulagi negotiated the open ocean between the New Hebrides to hit the fields at Tanna. This was the best attack day or night here. Nice to see we can still cause some havoc to the aircrews.

After suffering a computer breakdown, I had to reboot and reinstall the game. I lost several saves and combat reports during the transition. This will be a more general report with some specifics from the days that I still have data to use.

SUBS: IJN subs spot several TFs moving from the Fiji area toward either Tanna or a further destination like Noumea. I kept the KB ready one hex South of Tulagi and vectored subs in to see if I could pick any ships off or get more information.

On the 26th I-26 spots CL Cleveland and 4 DDs and gets off a spread of two fish aimed toward DD Conway, and after they miss the sub amazingly escapes a bludgeoning from the escorts. CA Chester and 4 DDs are located on the 26th near Anatom by I-29. No shots fired.

Hoe is attacked two days in a row near the Chinese coast on the 25th and 26th and shows 'heavy damage' after the second attack. Searaven is hit and lists 'heavy damage' on the 27th. Banzai!

SO PAC: Anatom, Koumac, Belep Islands and Luganville are given the treatment by 4Es and masses of 2Es every few days, keeping the fields closed. This was more attention than he'd been giving these bases, so I suspected something was up.

On the 26th in the afternoon phase the Allies landed the entire 2nd Marine Division plus support troops at Noumea! I guess he has a few APA/AKA now. The 423 AV was guaranteed to take th ease, so I began a withdrawal of the last small company still there. The attack was swift, and CVEs were shown in the rollovers, so the KB sailed down to see if they would stick around. Jocke said his unload was supposed to be the next day, but his amphib convoy made it in early and ran away quick. If they had not we would have hit them hard. Too bad.

On the 27th 94 B-24D appeared over Koumac and were met by 58 A6M3s and a few Rufes. About 10 Liberators were shot down and 12 IJN fighters lost. I'll take that, but it left the KB light on fighters. Wildcats and SBDs from Tanna went for the MGBs at Koumac and were also skewered the same day by the KB CAP, thankfully with no losses.

Noumea fell, and the Rufes and Jakes were moved from New Caledonia back to the Solomons on the 28th. All of the Allied ships appeared to move back to Suva and toward New Zealand.

PACIFIC: It became clear that Jocke knew my raiding forces were in the middle of the Pacific when during a several day period an Allied TF was located by Jakes and tracked down by the SCTF. Eventually 3 xAKL with one PB were sunk. This made me think it was a scouting force to see what we'd brought. Apparently because the Jakes from the CV TF found the Allied task force, the DL of the CVs went to 7/7. So the gig was up.

After this the three CVs moved into 21 hex range for the recon Judys to check out Pearl, San Diego, LA and San Francisco and are now moving toward the Seattle area. Pearl had over 200 fighters shown by recon, so that was a no go. All other spots on the West Coast were also well protected, with 80-100 fighters, so this was basically a fairly expensive scouting mission.

BURMA: The action in the skies over Burma continues to be heavy. Several sweeps a day are consistently flown over the Allied troops sitting on the rail between Katha and Shwebo. No major raids hit Katha, giving break to recover the fields and continue to build forts again. By the 28th they were at 5.3 and rising.

On the 25th the Allies contested the sweeps and Helen raids over the troops in the jungle. The battles were fairly even but we got slightly the better of it after wearing down the CAP to let the bombers get through with only a few losses. Most of his LR CAP was very high to combat the sweeps, which helped.

On the 26th Tojos suffered against two groups of Lightnings in sweeps but took out 10 by the end of the day, performing better as escorts. Go figure.

Quite a few Helens were lost on the day, but all of the decent and expert pilots have been changed out for replacements, since I know these guys will take heavy losses regularly.

These few turns were exciting and active. Jocke saw the KB hanging around North of Koumac and other TFs moving into the area and deduced that I was launching a counter-invasion of New Caledonia. I had just removed all major troops from the area, (which had 2 divisions now in or en route to Burma), and the TFs were actually refueling the KB and a SCTF to support it. It has been holding just out of SBD range from Tanna to see what would happen next in the area.

SUBS: The Pogy found the KB but only got shots off at the DDs on the 1st.

SO PAC: The KB stayed in the area North of Koumac, moving each day within a four hex box and trying to stay in shallow waters to help protect against subs. The fields damage stayed high on Noumea during most of this time, only being repaired by Allied engineers by the 4th. On the 3rd a TF was attacked by a limited raid of Kates at 8 hexes. The CL Nashville and DDs evaded the bombs, shooting down one Kate. Another larger TF was sighted moving from the area around Fiji, but I wasn't sure if it would go to Tanna or all of the way to Noumea.

On the 4th it became clear early in the replay that major shipping had moved into the hex at Noumea as several search planes were shot down by CAP. The KB sent out a strike that got past most to the higher flying CAP and nailed 6 CVEs plus at least one CA. The CAP of 138 Wildcats plus 3 Corsairs barely touched the strike package on the way in, but mauled them after the battle, and on the day the IJNAF lost over 100 planes. The Allied strike was small, with only 12 Avengers escorted by about twice the number of Wildcats, and put two fish into Hiyo.

After the replay I was excited to find Hiyo had only 20 float and 12 system damage! We had lost a lot of planes but sunk at least 7 ships, 6 of them being CVEs. I was quite happy with that and sent the fleets back to Tulagi to replenish.

Jocke wrote after seeing the turn, and expressed his frustration at what he thinks might be a bug causing his supply not to unload at Noumea, thus reducing his CAP for the day. After some negotiation we re-ran the turn. He explained the situation to me and I realized it could have made a big difference, but neither of us know how much. I was very reluctant to do this at first, thinking that he had already placed his ships in a dangerous situation, and in a moment when he did not have to act at all. He had taken Noumea, I could not take it back. But I realized later that this was not his perception of the situation at all, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt eventually. This is a game and I don't want my opponent to feel cheated by the engine, I want him to be challenged by the game we're playing.

We re-ran the turn with only the units involved given orders. The second running was slightly different. Only three CVEs were sunk. Not many IJN planes were shot down. A LOT of Allied planes were lost in unescorted attacks.

We are now going to run the 'real' continuation re-run turn with all units given orders. I hope the results are not too different from this one. Especially in terms of his escorts, as 25 SBDs could cause a lot of pain to the KB. It's playing with fire a bit, but seems fair. I'll post later tonight on the results.

PACIFIC: Seattle was reconned and looks hittable, with only 67 fighters listed and 27 juicy ships in the port, but I'll retire now that he definitively knows what is in the mid-Pacific and can reinforce quickly.

BURMA: A few tank units were moving down the road from Akyab. I was just reinforcing Ramree Island with a 120 AV garrison, and wondered if he would peruse, but those are now turning around after a few days of bombing. Maybe a supply issue?

Well, the 'real' March 4th turn was a little more damaging for each of us, but luckily none of my ships were touched. I think it really helped that I dedicated the elite Shoho zero group to 100% CAP 0 hex distance. I also had LR CAP 80% from Ndeni, a group of 36 elite A6M3a, but looking at the report, it seems they did not take part in the day's battles.

SO PAC: The day began as it had the previous two run throughs with multiple search contacts beginning with at least ten sightings of Allied ships by the Vals, Judys and Jakes from the KB. The Allied planes found the KB slightly later, and only with 2 contacts. It was odd then that they got first strike this time, which made me sweat. Luckily it was only 12 Avengers escorted by 22 Wildcats. Since about 30 zeros were already in the air on CAP I thought they might punch through and wipe out the attack before the bombers got through, but they fell just short. All of the Wildcats were downed and the TBs made it through, but luckily scored no hits. Whew!

A few flights of Dauntless came through without escorts, as before, and were completely wiped out by the now 50 strong CAP. I think Jocke hurt his chances of offensive action by having too many planes on CAP.

Still in the morning phase our strike went in and got most attack planes through, scored good hits on at least 4 CVEs, sinking CVE Sangamon outright and leaving a few other smoldering wrecks. CLAA San Juan also got a torp and showed heavy damage later. The strike planes were devastated by the Wildcat CAP on the way out, and I thought there was again no way they would mount an afternoon strike, as they hadn't in the previous runs.

Low and behold, a good sized second strike was put together and nailed the coffin of the Nassau at least and maybe took out the Altamaha as well. On the day though 131 planes were lost for 63 of the Allies. I'll be doing a good amount of pilot training management for the next few days.

The KB and all other ships will return to Tulagi for replenishment. Noumea is now Allied territory and although this was a very successful turn in the end, it will take some time to recover KB air groups. The Allied strength will be too great in that area for any return to raid the supply lines soon. Battles will now focus on the New Hebrides and a great amount of effort will be put into Ndeni holding as long as possible. The recently arrived CD unit should be there tomorrow.

Good job.

Even with heavy air loses you are still winner of that battle. Taking out of action 4 and maybe 6 CVE is good result. That mean when you engage him next time he will have 180 less planes in air. And that may be thin line between victory or disaster.

Remember without CVE he will have to give LCAP over invasion force from big CV and that mean less defending big ones or escorting offensive missions.

I not remember how his CV situation looks but you are in position to push him little more there :)

Yes, this could leave him very limited in the CV/CVE area for the next several months. He has either 1 US CV, the Yorktown, or 0 if the reports are correct. Now he also has very few CVE left. I still haven't seen any British CVs during the entire game.

He has the LBA, troops and fast unloading ships to island hop through the New Hebrides and up toward the Solomons, but I hope I can make these moves costly at least. The 3 CVs that were scouting the Pacific will move back and rejoin the KB. Even massed LBA will have trouble breaking through the CAP on the 6 CV 4 CVL KB when supported by our own LBA.

5 - 8 March 1943

SUBS: The 5th and 6th were very busy under the water. As ships radiated back from the Noumea area they came into contact with the patrols set up to get in their way and pick off any injured vessels. I won't mention all of the contacts, but I'll put a bunch in the reports for perusal.

On the 15th first two Es and then the SCTF returning from the Koumac area run over and damage the Albacore. The sub lists heavy damage after the second attack.

On the 16th I-33 shoots 6 at the Neosho and all miss.

The sub is then pounded by DCs and might not make it back with 72 float damage.

RO-65 takes out Gridley near Nadi. A nice catch.

On the 17th the Gudgeon working near the Chinese coast misses a big TK convoy, shooting two at an E before being forced to dive. No damage on the sub though.

PACIFIC: All TFs reach Adak, which quickly runs out of fuel. I now have to make large TFs to head back to the HI to get the ships refueled from xAKs that were in port.

BURMA: A few feinted movements from the Allied troops, but not much else. I wonder what he is waiting for to act? My forts are getting stronger and more troops are arriving in theater. The window is getting more narrow. But I may not know what other forces are moving on the other side of course.

SO PAC: The KB retired to Tulagi and the long process of hand-picking pilots began. For the KB I don't trust the auto-selection process. Another DB group also upgraded to the Judy on the Hiyo. I've sent Kaga and Shoho back for 4/43 upgrades and the Zuiho is moving past Truk on it's way back from Yokohama to take up position with the KB.

Reinforcements: The B6N2 advances. Engines are helping this one go fast. I almost wonder whether I should build the early model with it's unique engine. I will, but I have to rebuild a factory for the Ha-44 as I forgot to have one going before the plane was ready. Ooops. Now it'll be another few weeks before they start coming off the assembly lines.

The first Oscars IIb are entering units! Yes.

I know it's not that much cause for celebration, but the 2 x 250kg bombs will be useful once the Allies get troops in the clear in Burma.

Your subs can make it expensive for Jocke to bring in follow up forces Noumea, but the Allied ASW is getting tougher to defeat. So, the question will be how many subs are you willing to lose in the So Pacific??

When is Mr George due?? I would send a lot of them to the So Pacific to fend off the mass of B-24s that should be headed for your AFs to close them down. As an Allied player, I would close down as many AFs as possible and then use the re-built air groups from the sunken CVs to try to make it costly for you to send in KB to intervene.

South Pacific

Here is a map of the area South of the Solomons. Jocke now controls Southern New Caledonia, and will have the Northern part whenever he wants to walk up and take it. This will give him good bases to begin building to hit the Southern Solomons and Ndeni with 4Es. I'm not looking forward to that. I will need to move the primary fleet base up the chain to Shortlands and begin to develop Kaveing as a secondary naval base in the area.

The George will arrive sometime in June/July dependent on the rest of the R n D reparing. One 30 sized factory is now producing. The other two are at 24 (6) and 5 (25). The Tony Iic should be available around the same time, and I might make a few for point defense. The only other fighter that could help is the Jack, but I'll not produce the first variant and wait for the later models. The Tojo IIc won't be producing until maybe October 43.

About 7-10 subs work the area between Sydney, Auckland, Noumea and Fiji at a given time. A bunch more are waiting in Tulagi until the action gets closer to air patrols and coordination becomes more possible.

Efate and Luganville will most likely be the next Allied targets. They are flattened 3-4 times a week by 4E raids, and each only has 15 AV in it! I'm surprised they are still in Japanese hands.

Burma

The situation is stable in Burma. The Allied stack near Katha has not moved since the incursion in spite of several threatened movements. No bombing runs have hit katha or other bases for over a week and Katha's forts are at 5.51 and growing. The 3rd Tank division is moving to the area and is ready to reinforce or join the 1750 AV at Katha to move in behind Allied troops should a move toward Schebo occur.

Several new fighter units have moved in and operate from bases strengthened by the addition of an Air HQ and 7 new base forces that arrived last month.

The IJAAF bomber forces make on ly limited raids at this point until the Allied troops are farther from their cover and either in the clear or threatening a base.

A small amount of oil is still being produced in Magwe, which when it's refined both provides supply and fuel for fleet operations in the area from Rangoon.

I haven't been commenting much, but still following your AAR. Well written and a good read. I try to concentrate on your actions more so than Jocke's for obvious reasons. How has China changed your defence? With taking it pretty much out are you freeing up as many units as you had hoped for strengthening your Pacific holdings?

I haven't been commenting much, but still following your AAR. Well written and a good read. I try to concentrate on your actions more so than Jocke's for obvious reasons. How has China changed your defence? With taking it pretty much out are you freeing up as many units as you had hoped for strengthening your Pacific holdings?

When China was on its last legs we had some discussions about how it should always be a threat. Jocke's main focus was where all of those Chinese units would go and what that would mean for the rest of the game. While neither of us are strictly historical players, we did agree to playa a historically 'plausible' game for the most part. I realized that the IJA would never leave China in any real scenario. There would have to be a big presence. Because I feel the ease of conquering China is actually a flaw of game design (addressed somewhat by the stacking limits in the babes, although this doesn't limit constant pressure from the air force) it seemed like a better idea to keep a good amount of troops in China to approximate what might have actually happened had the Japanese come close to conquering China.

So, I have moved a few units out, but not many. The biggest boon is having the mountains secure. This means a good amount of supply can flow between China and Burma, and Northern Burma can be supported more easily. Also, it'll be tough to conquer the mountain fortresses to free supply lines into China.

In the Pacific, only a few units of the IJA have moved to support he IJN troops. More will come, but it will take a while and many will be coming from Manchuria, not China proper.

PS - A good amount of air forces not under China command have left the area as well. This does help with ASW and should be useful in Burma eventually, once Jocke moves troops to areas farther from his fighters and into clear hexes.

Stacking limits are, imho, a real game changer. China can be defended if you set up your defences properly, imho... same goes for japanese Burma in 1943/44... for sure the side with more firepower would eventually win, but if you have to keep your attacking forces below a certain limit (mostly in China the limit is 40/50k men, which means not more than 3 IJA divisions + some support troops), then it will be more a war of movement than a war of brutal force.

SUBS: Lots more follow-up sub action in the South Pacific, and a bit more near China. For the first time in forever an IJN ASW destroyer is hit by a torp. The Greenling hits Yayoi, but close enough to Pescadores that the ship will be in the yards tomorrow and should be back in a week.

CM Itsukushima is nailed on the 10th while transporting supplies to the SW coast of OZ. She goes down like a rock.

On the 11th xAK Toei Maru is lost to Gudgeon near the HI.

SW Australia: A contingent of troops looks to be moving from Geraldton toward the west and Carnarvon. It is listed as 42k with a good number of vehicles and guns. I do believe there is a fight on our hands. Supply and an Army HQ is sent to Carnarvon, and abombardment TF with 2 BBs and a CA departs from Soerabaja and steams to the area. The Allied troops will be slightly vulnerable moving dow the coastline, especially as they near Carnarvon on a long supply line. The Taiyo, our last CVE remaining, will join in with 10 Kates and 14 zeros to provide some air support on the water assisted by the 80 fighters at Exmouth and Carnarvon. Bettys are still at Exmouth and 27 Helens will also move in.

BURMA: Not much happening. The Allied stack is still listed as moving to the South, off of the rail. Not sure if this will really happen. I will sit tight and see. Forts are up to 5.63 at Katha.

SO PAC: The KB can only be called mini now with so many ships sent North to refit and repair. It is Junyo, Hiyo, Ryujo, Zuiho and Ryuho. They will reload and move to patrol at Ndeni to be ready for any quick invasions up the islands. Thankfully a big shipment of fuel just arrived at Tulagi.

SUBS: One of our damaged subs, I-33, is hit by S-27 on its slow path back to Tulagi, and is sunk.

The Hake nails TK Arita Maru with 2 torps near Daito Shoto. The air search and ASW that blankets this area doesn't seem to be lessening the number of attacks on shipping here.

West OZ: Troops near Geraldton are confirmed as bad news. The 3rd Australian division is among them.

PACIFIC: On the 13th and 14th at Efate 4E strikes hit the SNLF Coy there and nearly wipe out the unit. It's too bad the game allows this to happen. There's virtually no way an air strike of this kind could have destroyed full units this small hidden in jungle territory and dug in (with level 3 forts) in two days of bombing runs. It'll be even more distressing of course when entire divisions are disabled, as will surely be the case. Oh well.

BURMA: Allied troops still appear to be moving away from our positions back into the jungles.

SO PAC: Nothing much is happening now as a few ships are spotted moving around Tanna and Noumea, but no threats to Efate or Luganville have yet materialized. Anatom is still in our possession as well.

SUBS: S-27 shoots at our SCTF in So Pac and misses, then takes 5 damaging hits. Enough to send it home hopefully.

On the 18th Ryujo is hit by S-33. This is the 4th successful submarine attack on an IJN CV during the war. Luckily, again, it was only one exploding torp and the ship is not in immediate danger. Ryujo has 34 float damage, 12 engine and 13 system damage and will move to Tulagi and then back to the HI. Several ASW TFs will sweep the area.

JPC: Rogue Chinese units were hit hard on the 17th and again on the 19th. Jocke had not moved these into the protected area and so the IJA dealt with them as treaty breakers, but will take no further action to punish KMT forces within the Chungking plain area.

West OZ: Helens brought in to hit Allied troops near Geraldton

BURMA: Nothing happening. Still movement shown away from our lines by the Allied stack.

SO PAC: The hit on Ryujo means that the mini-KB will be forced to move back to Tulagi. I'll begin preparations to use Shortlands, Kaveing and Rabaul as main fleet bases. The AR and other support ships at Tulagi are becoming vulnerable to 4E raids as islands to the South become occupied by the Allied forces. I'm thinking this should go to Shortlands for now and later to Kavieng. This will mean longer distance to travel for injured subs and surface ships.

Ontong Java will be out of range for some time and I may use this base for sub ops and other fleet resupply shortly. I must make a choice about where to place the 4th Fleet though as it also allows torp usage by Netties.

I'm beginning to train some fighter pilots in low ground attack skills. The new Oscars and the Nicks will eventually see dual trained pilots and will supplement the 2E bombers to help hold back the tide. I'll train some low naval skill fighter pilots as well to experiment in the Pacific with using Oscars to help thwart invasions. With their long range they could be useful in that role. If not the pilots will surely make decent kamikazes in a few years.

I'm not even getting it to Saigon.

Earlier I was very diligent about having TKs constantly loading and not basing ships at Singapore, etc. All of the tricks you had mentioned and that I'd heard from others. It never really worked for me.

The other distressing thing is that bases in China seemed to be pulling from Port Arthur. That's when I decided I had to start shipping in earnest from Singapore or some bad things were going to develop. I'm still playing a bit of catch-up now, but there are several massive 100k fuel convoys moving plus many smaller ones. Also, any ships bringing supplies or troops come back with fuel.
