I'd like to help Obvert...buy my knowledge of japanese economy in 1943 is zero!
As far as i can tell your fuel and supply surpluses look good, and so does the HI...
The oil missing should'nt be a huge problem as far as fuel keeps on flowing to the HI... for sure you're gonna miss those 3000 supplies daily generated by the refineries

That's exactly how I feel. Totally new territory.

Thanks for the support though. I agree the supply will be noticed. A lot of players have mentioned supply is not the problem in the late game, but I'm still not sure after PzB and your thoughts about the DaBabes limitations. I know in stock it won't be nearly as closely run, but still it worries me if indeed I am lucky enough to still hold a goo deal of territory in 44. I do use it profusely for fort building and I fly a ton of sorties every day. As combat ramps up this will use even more. It'll be interesting, at least.

Yes, even if i think a wise Japanese player needs to start saving supplies as soon as possible, avoiding building up bases which are non-MUST and wisely use the replacements function.
Later on the supply expenditure will be so high (when the B24s will cripple all our bases) that every sip of supply will matter i fear...

Japan gets many ground units in 44 which all eat supply. More so if they are in combat. Your supply production usually wont increase at this point tho.
So if supply levels are going down in 43 they will for sure in 44. Because of this fuel is so important. If you run out of fuel it does not matter much if you have a gazillion HI or not. You cant move your ships, supply production will drop drastically etc etc.

Your fuel stocks look good but where is all that fuel ? If the majority of it is around Palembang/Singers you can get in trouble very quickly. (allies push through the lower DEI, cut the tanker line and game over. thats what happened to Cuttlefish vs Q-Ball. Cuttlefish still had two millions of HI or so but could do squat at this point.

ps You did a good job with your Oil it seems, I never understood players who say "I leave it behind and ship fuel instead."

Thanks for the notes. I definitely appreciate the help at this stage. Supply has been going up for the most part, but I've been shipping a lot out lately and building a ton, so it has leveled and taken a few dips. Soon my major fort building will be close to finished in major frontline areas.

I'm making a huge push right now to get everything to the HI while I still have a decent chance to do so. Singapore stores are diminishing significantly, and Palembang and Miri are also dropping steadily. I'm running out of fuel to ship in Balikpapan/Tarakan/Soerabaja.

Manila is now a size 9 port and has become my hub. Everything other than Sumatra fuel is shipped here. Actually, the stuff from Boela/Buna gets sent to Babeldaob, but that's just a trickle.

Within 3 months I should have the unnecessary surplus out of Singapore and Palembang. I'd like to make Manila not just a transport hub but also a major depot for fuel and oil, so that when incursions begin into the SRA most of the surplus will be out of the area stored here where it can be decided how best to use it.

Sounds like you are in a good shape indeed

Fuel is so precious that I have sometimes the urge to make hidden fuel depots where no one can find it...... myyyy precious......Gollum Gollum....

These recent comments about supply have me wondering why it's so frowned upon to increase LI? I get the fact it takes 2.75 years to pay the 1000 supply points back necessary for expanding LI one point/factory. Considering the supply may be needed in the late game doesn't it make sense to have increased supply generating capacity that doesn't require fuel?

In the late game, the majority of combat will be ground and air, because presumably much of Japan's navy will have been destroyed at this point. If LCU replacements and air operations are dependent on supply it seems to me that increasing LI may become a viable option. Considering how few games have gone the distance, I don't think there's enough proof that expanding LI is as detrimental to Japan as commonly believed.

I'm just playing Devil's advocate here. It just seems to me that if enough HI is pooled and supply is what is required to get those replacements into LCU's and for aircraft to perform missions, the more you have late game the better. I'm really curious to see what happens to Japan's supply when more of these AAR's reach into 45 and beyond.

These AAR's that look like they are going to go the distance are great for those of us who are still learning the game.

Great work guys!

Yes indeed. Even more so if you have unused supply in 42. You can invest it and reap the fruits in 45. Manchuria is a good place for doing that for example. Well at least untill August 45 O.O

Thanks for all of the notes. Been a bit busy this weekend so I haven't had time to respond until now.

I did end up increasing some LI in mid-42, so by late 45 it should be paid for. I didn't probably increase it enough to make a huge difference, but something like 100 more LI. I can't remember exactly. Still that's quite late, so most players probably feel they can't justify the expense in early 42, and by the time they can it won't be a productive move. If I can keep going until late 45 I'm sure I'll need all I can get though with the amount of bombing that will be going on.

7 July 1943
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

SUBS: Another xAK lost, again a good Lima class.

NORTH PACIFIC: The Mini-KB makes Attu and parks there for now. There is no detection level on the base, and he can't bomb this far with anything from his current bases.

WEST OZ: 4Es hit Carnarvon again. Those fields are demolished for a few weeks at the least. He lost a few to flak today, which is nice.

BURMA: Nothing.

SO PAC: Our SCTF hit a low value TF at Cooktown, sinking all of the ships, before bombarding Cooktown itself. Several aircraft were destroyed, but this part was fairly ineffective. More intel than any real destruction. The Allied cruisers stayed in Portland Roads unfortunately.

The KB moved within range of Luganvilles LBA, and Jocke was incensed that the only ones that flew were a group of unescorted SBD that were slaughtered. The CAP was 120 planes, so even a bigger escorted strike would have found the going a bit difficult I think. At least this is what I'm hoping. Having the KB running around out here is asking for it, but I feel if I can shore up Ndeni, give it some supply and let the fields repair, it could give a month or two of extra time to the defenders. With better fighters coming online I'll soon be able to better challenge Allied raids in the area and at least make him pay for hitting the area. I'll keep the KB moving, and might even threaten Suva just to make sure he's still CAPing those rear bases heavily.

GJ, One question that I don't know. Do you think it wiser for the Japanese player to refrain from rebuilding lost infantry units? It seems like it would take up a lot of supply to rebuild a division and Japan really gets a lot of them anyways. As the Allies I have destroyed quite a few Japanese units but aside from the obvious, base and aviation support, it must be very expensive in supply for the future to rebuild.

One reason to rebuild a division is if it is restricted to China, for instance. It will return with very few squads and can thus be bought out very cheaply and sent anywhere else once rebuilt. I would say unless it's very late game and Japan holds only a small amount of territory, it would always make sense to rebuild a division, even if you have to do it slowly, or only partially.

8-10 July 1943
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

SUBS: Looks like I can score one for the ASW teams on the 8th. A rare attack that didn't go well for the Allies. E W-13 drops four direct hits on Snapper, leaving her with heavy damage. Of course the same day an IJN sub got nailed in So Pac without being able to get to a TF of tankers. It might make it back with 65 float damage, but it's got a ways to go. Several more escorts and xAK are hit during th next few days.

NORTH PACIFIC: All quiet.

WEST OZ: Bombing runs hit troops on the 9th and 10th, creating some disruption and disablements. I'm content to sit and wait as his troops move down the long thin road through the desert. I'll bomb from the air and the sea eventually, but he's still only 1 hex from Geraldton with the stack, now looking like a solid 65k troops.

BURMA: Nothing.

SO PAC: Lightnings come in to Port Moresby and the zeros don't do too badly getting just better than 1:2 against them. I'll continue to take that over my base while I have to use the A6M.

The KB popped down to the East of the New Hebrides to threaten Suva. It seems more fighters were added to increase defenses as a result of this move. The KB then popped back to the area around Ndeni, staying at least 7 hexes from the bombers based at Luganville, both so there would be less of a chance they would fly and so that loads would be for extended distance (smaller bombs, no TT). There are a bunch of subs in the area, and most are picked out by extensive search and ASW every turn, but eventually Jocke will likely concentrate them. I'm trying to lead them into minefields and heavy ASW presence, but other than the many attack messages each turn, I have no idea whether ASW is effective. Sweeps continue over Ndeni, but bombing has stopped in the area and the fields are near repaired. Once they are in operating order I'll bring in fighters and retire the KB to the Kirakira area, still in striking range but not in danger.

The aggressive use of the KB has been something I've needed to use throughout this game. Right now I feel that Jocke has only two options for advance until later in the year when he has a larger CV presence; up to Ndeni and into the Solomons, or across to New Guinea from NE OZ a la MacArthur. The KB can play a part in either area supported by LBA. He's focused much of his strength on these two approaches as far as I can tell. It is a risk to sail these valuable ships around with subs and massed LBA, but so far I've been lucky!

Also, the KB has a limited shelf-life that is coming close to the expiry date. If I can cause even a few months delay to operations at risk of a CV getting hit by a sub now, it still might be worth the cost.

I'm building Kirakira and Rennel Islands into advanced fighter bases (stopping at fields level 3) and Stewart island into a seaplane ASW/search base.

SUBS (daily tithe): PB Minowa Maru lost on the 11th to the Pargo. AS Kimishima Maru was hit and sunk by the Grunion. Shiranui was one of the escort and managed to put a few good hits on the sub, but nothing serious.

NORTH PACIFIC: Quiet.

WEST OZ: One big raid on the 13th of 150 4E takes out a good number of vehicles which sends AA units into high levels of disruption. At least there is a lot of supply at the base for now. I'm healing everything he knocks out within a few days.

BURMA: An interesting raid came in on the 14th. Jocke sent only one sweep of brand new P-40N1 to Meiktila. I had over 50 fighters get int the air, and well rested good quality units. They took out about 10 of the sweepers, but once the bombing mission of 85 B-25C showed up they could't break through in spite of destroying the entire escort. I still can't touch his bombers, which is really frustrating. Although it was a poorly chosen base to raid, being in the middle of the swarm of fighter groups in Central Burma, it is one that has no radar, which likely saved the bombers. Only about half the fighters made it in time before the raid, but unfortunately they didn't hit them on their way home at all.

SO PAC: I continue to dodge the KB around Ndeni and the surrounding islands. He hasn't tested it out here in terms of sending sweeps or bombing missions, so it seems it's gavin gut desired effect.

Hellcats hit A6M3a at Merauke, and we lost 9 but got 5 of his.

SUBS: The subs began to get dangerous in So Pac during these turns. A shot at the KB 1 on the 15th near Ndeni by the Grayback a shiver in my spine. Then the Sealion actually targeted Katsuragi later in the day. Time to move!

Although I shifted all TFs to Reef Islands, a shallow hex, subs got attacks in before the movement and some followed there as well. In the SCTF the BB Nagato took a TT and will have to head home for a fix and will get radar and an AA refit as well. It's at only 28 float damage, so should be fine. The Sealion on the other hand, which shot the spread, took 17 hits and should be in trouble. Grayback also took a bunch of direct shots.

Also on the 15th the Jack hit AO Kyokuto Maru with two TT, and I thought she was a goner. Luckily the ship was empty and therefore didn't burn up, ending up with about 65 float damage. I sent it two hexes away to the size one port at Kuroshima to settle for a week or so. Then I'll transfer to Nagasaki.

NORTH PACIFIC: Nothing.

WEST OZ: On the 15th, 16th and 17th 100 4E hit Carnarvon troops again. Troops are recovering well, though. Only the AA units have major disruption.

BURMA: Nothing.

SO PAC: On the 16th I accidentally had a TF move right into LBA range near Port Moresby. It was trying to get to Singapore and was on normal threat avoidance levels, so I'm not sure why it went this way into a known nest of 200 fighters and 150 bombers. It had just dropped fuel off at Rabaul. Jocke wrote and thought I was going for Hon Island, so I guess it was a useful diversion at least.

Anyway, one xAK was lost when 2 (!) Banshees made it through the LR CAP and both scored hits. Wow. Good shootin. Then B-25D came in skip bombing with good results. I have two xAK burning which will head to Port Moresby. The rest will go to Rabaul. At least i know what's here and got to shoot a few planes down.

A sweep hit Ndeni on the 17th and I have to say I'm a bit underwhelmed by the Jack in this first combat. With good pilots it took more losses than the Tojos, which were more numerous. LR CAP was a major factor in the second sweep, wiping out the defenders for no losses. Hmmmmm.

On the 18th at Port Moresby the CAP does well and gets even numbers against Hellcat and Lightning sweeps.

We upgraded to the new patch. one thing I noticed immediately was more fragments in bombers coming in for a raid. I'll have to watch this to see if it is a trend. Could bode well for the defenders. I'd like to start seeing more 4E in smaller pieces coming up against CAP, at least if there is any left after the first wave goes through.

I have notice that to For both sides. After upgrading to beta i have never seen bomber flying in one big wave. Last turn 150 allied heavies raid was shattered on 12 separate waves of 10-20 bombers. Earlier attack usualy in 2-3 big waves. Also Japanese bombers have difficulty with coordination

If this is real and not only what we wish , defending against 4E raid will be much esier because we will have bigger chance to gain numeric superiority vs single wave.

I'm just about to post on this based on a big raid in Burma. Interesting how it worked, but difficult with LR CAP that still hovers over and protects the late fragments. I'll begin and hopefully get up the post soon to illustrate what I mean.

19-20 July 1943
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Burma just got interesting again. A massive raid launched into the very center of my defenses at Mandalay. There is a tight web of interlocking bases here. More than 300 fighters are in range, and all were set to combinations of CAP/LR CAP to help each other. Unfortunately I realized later, there is no radar yet at Mandalay. While that made the defense less responsive than it could have been, there was still a stout effort by the groups in the area.

This raid brought up an interesting discussion of our use of offensive LR CAP. We've decided to allow LR CAP with sweeps but in this case it also worked to support the bombing raids extensively. I'm not sure how to avoid this, but with Allied group sizes and the way the escorts (don't) work, some LR CAP is probably needed. It is not perfect for either side and provides unlikely outcomes, as is seen below. I've included all report information for this attack, with some notes about the Allied LR CAP affecting very late fragments arriving.

I'm definitely seeing some differences in the new Patch. Many more fragments for big bomber raids for sure. So far I LOVE coastal routing though.

SUBS: Lost another xAK to the Pargo near Chichi-Jima.

SO PAC: On the 19th the CAP at Port Moresby again tangles with Hellcats sweeping. Same kind of results.

BURMA: The main show happened in Burma. Mandalay was the target. A decent CAP arrived for the first sweep and the main bomber raid. The CAP was devastated by the first use of the P-47 (on LR CAP) by the Allies. The first sweep of Corsairs with 3 groups of LR CAP added in got a 4:1 kill ratio. Not a good start for the defenders.

Next, the main bomber raid was nailed after the CAP broke through escorts and LR CAP, taking down mainly P-40s and 2E bombers.Several more large chunks came through, then the dribbles and drabs started going in. These should mostly have been unescorted but instead were supported by LR CAP that effectively let them get through. As a result many bombers were not destroyed, many planes were hit on the ground late and any planes set to interdict bombers at lower altitudes were continually lower than the LR CAP. This is the most difficult part for me. Once the LR CAP dives, it should stay down. Instead they get back to diving in and crush anything lower, like the 37 Nicks taken down today, the 31 Tojos set to 20k, or the 25 A6M5 at 20k. As many of these small groups got through to hit the fields damage also now is too great to risk flying fro this base at 71 field/56 service damage. Total plane losses for each side is right around 100 planes.

We've sent a few messages back and forth and are trying to figure this out. What to do? I can't justify having an HR ruling out LR CAP altogether as the Allies would not be able to sweep or fly bombing missions without depleting their pools right away. But if we allow LR CAP the results of a raid against the strongest point of defense on the map is completely overwhelming and detrimental to future defense of the area.

Another major concern or me is that there is no information for the altitude of LR CAP as there is for other missions. So it can't be combatted in any directed way, although I probably couldn't equal the altitude anyway.

Any ideas?

Heavy presence of LR CAP provides sweep with a devastating advantage, winning a 4:1 kill ratio in spite of being outnumbered. A good advantage should be gained because of plane quality, but once the dive is finished, these guys should be surrounded by huge numbers if not for the LR CAP.

Big effect of Allied LR CAP here, with IJ fighters dying in droves. Some were likely hit by 4E, but probably not as many as have been destroyed here or the actual number, at least 50% more, that were destroyed in this phase of the raids. I have to watch the replay again to find out for sure. From here on there is no escort, only LR CAP. The defensive CAP thus gets depleted and eventually doesn't even show up of rate last several raids.

Judging by today's efforts, the Nick may have to be taken off of frontline groups and sent to areas outside of sweep range. I may try it as a bomber both against land and shipping targets as well.

The main show happened in Burma.

Next, the main bomber raid was nailed after the CAP broke through escorts and LR CAP, taking down mainly P-40s and 2E bombers. Several more large chunks came through, then the dribbles and drabs started going in.

But if we allow LR CAP the results of a raid against the strongest point of defense on the map is completely underwhelming and detrimental to future defense of the area.

Another major concern or me is that there is no information for the altitude of LR CAP as there is for other missions. So it can't be combatted in any directed way, although I probably couldn't equal the altitude anyway.

Any ideas?

Hi Erik,

You know my thoughts on LRCAP and are experiencing the same thing I did in my last AAR. I have wracked my brain trying to come up with a counter and I just don't see it. I don't think there is a solution working within the framework of the air model and the rock/paper/scissors format.

I think you just have to rely on radar, layered CAP and hope the AI commits your forces in mass. If committed in strength and you don't get bounced every time you have a chance to bleed the Allied aircraft pools. Otherwise, it's just wait until your CAP is degraded after the initial 3-4 offensive missions and watch it committed in one's and two's thereafter to be bounced continually and slaughtered.

Sadly, unless you can cycle in more fresh air units than Jocke can, you'll lose air superiority after a few more attacks like this or have no functioning airbases to operate from anyway.

I'm glad to see this isn't strictly a PDU off problem from being forced to use inferior planes like I did (Oscar), but also saddened that PDU on doesn't change anything either. LRCAP used offensively is simply a killer regardless of game preferences.

Others will suggest that you bomb Allied airbases to force Jocke to CAP rather than LRCAP. Well, we both know how that will go so unless you are willing to sacrifice hundreds of bombers there has to be another way. I'll be the first to offer an idea if I get one, but right now I'm at a loss.

Yep.That's what I thought. The next day was a bit better for me actually, only because one P-47 sweep showed up late. I think it looks like we might just have to go as is for now. Jocke made a good point that the Allies would have been sweeping low over bases to take out fighters on the ground as well as having multi-layered bombing, neither of which is really possible in AE as the air model currently works. Wouldn't it be cool if you could strafe and hit something? Para-frag?

Anyway. I can see that the new patch and the fragmentary strikes are going to equalize extreme results and could be really good for the late game. No longer will the 200 passes rule let the offensive player stack crap escorts to get bombers through every time. That is enough to make the LR CAP even much easier to deal with.

One advantage I have here is a very fortified Burma. Most bases are level 5-6 forts, so bombing strength is slightly reduced. Also, certain bases are stacked with AA and have a ton of engineers to get things online again. In the meantime I can rotate groups to several rear bases and get some rested up. He has to be hurting too, especially in 2E bombers. I may not see Wellingtons for a while! So the next strikes will likely not be as tough. I have a good pool of Tojos and enough of Tonys, A6M5 and Nicks for an extended period. The George is the key though. The 251 Ku S-1 (formerly Tainan Ku S-1) is changing to the now and will be up and running in a few days. The one Jack group here actually is doing okay as well, getting slightly better than even kills to losses. That's good right now against the Corsairs, Hellcats, Lightnings and P-47s he's sweeping with.

So I'll just keep going and hope for the best!

SUBS: A surprisingly good 2 hit attack on the Raton near the PI. Maybe it was already damaged?

BURMA: Another big raid in Burma, this time at Magwe. I don't think Jocke will be happy with this one. I also think he's pushing a bit too hard here. His pools may be full after little activity in the past few months, but two big strikes in two days has to wear out the pilots. I would think a big raid followed by multiple sweeps the next few days would be preferable.

At the end of the day the losses showed:

IJ - 47
Allies - 86

Many of his were 2E bombers again. This is the first time I've gotten to them so effectively. Usually I'll get a few passes before the A to A phase is finished and they go off to wipe my airfields. I'm not sure if this is related to the fragmentation or not, but it seems accurate that a CAP this large should have a chance at the bombers.

The next day a Hurricane sweep came in. He hasn't used these much in an offensive role. I'm surprised they did as well as they did.

SO PAC: A few sweeps into Ndeni do fairly well, but the CAP does hold. Meaning there would still be some left to hit a bombing strike if it came after. On the 22nd though sweeps to Vanikoro hit only LR CAP, doing very well against them.

BURMA
Two non-fragmented sweeps come in first even though there are severe storms. After this the first 132 bombers are supported by escort and LR CAP as they come in to make their bombing runs. The losses are most severe in this section actually. Later, once the CAP is worn down (or maybe the fragments represent areas of the airspace the CAP was not present in) the bombers get a free run at the fields.

About 41% thus had no CAP attack them while all of the losses were from the 59% that had escorting support.

So, both of my games are on hold now. Jocke and I upgraded to the new patch and noticed changes right away in the way air-combat was being resolved. Most of it is detailed in the above posts, for which I've included most of the reports, annotated.

He has opened a thread in the tech forum. If you're also using patch 1119a from 14/10/12 and you have noticed more fragmentation of bombing/sweeps since the update, maybe post something just to get more feedback in the thread. We're trying to figure out why its happening for us but seemingly not for everyone. So far the only other PBEM that seems to have the same issue is Docup-Koniu. Some players playing the AI on the same patch, including Sardaukar, haven't noticed a change.

Hello obvert

I just started reading your AAR about a week ago. Started at the beginning and now just starting page 35.
Just wanted to say what a pleasure your AAR is! Love the photos and the little historical tidbits. I have been a WWII history junkie since I was about 8 and the passion has never dimmed even 30 years later. What is amazing about the conflict is how no matter how much you think you know about it, there is always more to learn (same with WitP!).

As a fanatical Japanese player I have found your AAR informative as well as entertaining.

One question- where do you get those cool colorized photos of Japanese units like this one I stole off your post?

Also,
I love that you are trying out so many air units. When I first started playing I wanted to try out as many as I could but find myself streamlining in later games because honestly, I am not a good enough player to mess around to much. I like that you use the Nick. I have actually had decent success with them in the past and in my current PBEM. I've even had them shoot down older p38s with good pilots! I am curious about how the Ki61s will do for you. I have been really disappointed with them in past games. It seems that they should be better than they are in the game. In my current game I decided to completely avoid them and just build Ki44 until Ki84. However, I have always wondered if they could be used in point def against 4es with any effectiveness (the cannon armed variant). In previous games I have even used the Ki44IIb which most people hate, but I have actually had some success with (not building them this time though.)

Hope your game goes the duration.

Thanks for the kind words. It has been a fun thing to make for me as well. I also started early as a fan of WW2. I 'won' a writing contest in 2nd grade and my dad was really dismayed when my first choice book was some anthology of WW2 aircraft.

I try to do a bunch of different kinds of searching online, but I have jut by chance come across some sites that have a whole archive of images. I'll list links to some below. The Old Ships site is especially amazing, but alas none or few color images. The ones I've used like the above came I think from one site, and they were nicely annotated as well, but it's on the bookmarks for my old laptop I think. I'll try to find it again.

If I'm going to play this game for a while I figured I might as well try the different options. I agree the Nick is fun. It's definitely tough to fly them against new US fighters, but mostly because I have them low to hit the bombers. Once I swept with them and they actually did really well since they can take a lot of punishment and still get home.

I also had the Ki-44 IIb flying, and it's done just fine. The Ki-61 Ib isn't great, but it is different and I like that. I'm looking forward to the next model as I think that will do more for me.

Thanks obvert!
Your story about your first book is very similar to mine.  My parents were both astonished when my first purchase with saved allowance money when I was 10 or so was a 25 volume set WWII encylopedia!  Still have it, I must have read through it from start to finish at least a dozen times.

MOVING ON
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

We've decided for now to move on using the older official patch without all of the new goodies. I'm a bit disappointed we couldn't get some more response on this issue, and I think it will affect everyone who uses this patch at some point. I will keep testing and will post some results on the tech forum thread later tonight. I've been having fun doing these and learning a lot about the air systems in game. We are both positive that based on our tests this is happening in the new patch and was not in the official one.

We're going back to the day of the big Allied raid on Mandalay. In this version I expect a bigger initial raid and a very bloody outcome, mainly that I'll kill more fighters and fewer bombers. I might even get more 4Es because of the numbers of passes, but will surely get fewer 2Es as they will be more protected in the larger raid. We'll see if I'm right. I think he'll have a few unescorted planes come in and I hope because the CAP won't be as worn out by 10 or more packages of small groups all supported by LR CAP that I'll be able to score better later against these.

I'm not a betting man, but if I were I'd say this raid will achieve the results following:

Total Losses:

IJ - 105 planes

Allies - 110 planes

Individual plane losses:

IJ - 30 Nick, 30 zero, 25 Tojo, 10 Tony, 5 Oscar

Allies - 50 P-40, 30 2E, 15 4E, 10 P-38, 5 P-47

Base damage - 65 fields/55 service

So just a bit more damaging than the last time, but a bit less on the base. That's my guess. We'll see soon, hopefully.

Well, I was wrong, but not completely. The turn was indeed bloody, but not quite in the way predicted. Back with the official patch the strike at Mandalay was devastating and coordinated.

BURMA: One massive strike hit our CAP at Mandalay. The fighters were able to break through for a few shots at the bombers, but with the help of LR CAP it was tough to get much in the successive small fragments after. There were only 3 fragments after the main raid. The base is however shut down now. Runway - 72 / Service - 99.

For my final scores I was not far off!!

Total Losses:

Allies - 112 planes

Japan - 100 planes

He lost many more Hellcats and a good smattering of all of his better fighters, but not as many 4Es as I predicted, and his 2E losses were way down. So he'll be happy.

WEST OZ: More 4Es at Carnarvon, but not too damaging to the troops.

SO PAC: Just a few sub contacts.

Now I'm interested in even more testing. If the coordination issue didn't change the strike outcome radically, could there be benefits to it later when combat is more intense?
