11 - 14 August 1944 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ S/SW PAC: Just a few days after another division is landed at Talaud-eilanden the base falls easily. This is a blow, as the forts were only ever reduced on the final attack and it was still possible to have gotten more into the base. There was no chance though as the Allies have too much to bring from the reserve if there is ever a sticking point. I'm sure either Mindanao or Manado is next. DOWNFALL: It's beginning to feel like the ending. How does Japan continue to fight against such odds, such speed and overwhelming power? I've begun to feel everything past Indochina is in danger. I'm not sure, to be honest, of how to deal with this. Do I begin a massive withdrawal now in the hope of having some defenses set up along the Indochinese coast, into China, and not completely lose the troops in forward positions? Can I secure oil shipments for a few more months from Palembang if I do this? I've begun withdrawals from Burma and the Andamans (which haven't yet been reconned to see this) and I'm expecting a massive push to fill in the void once it's clear the coastal defenses are lessening. SUBS: Another few of mine lost, and one Allied seriously damaged. His subs are chasing the crippled CVs back to the HI, but aren't on the right vector, so will likely miss them. In 2-3 days they should be safely in Nagasaki. NORTH PACIFIC: A transport fleet runs over and sinks the I-3, looking to be moving to Dutch Harbor. At last some movement here. At least the port there is messed up for him, so it'll be a bit slower. S DEI: Troops are still missing from Darwin with no sign of a move here. Retreat is in full effect as all troops are pulling back to Kendari, Macassar and Lomblen. I'm leaving some on Timor indefinitely. Surface fleets are pulling back to Balikpapan and Soerabaja. BURMA: A bombing of Rangoon takes down 7-10 bombers from flak. It's not going to make much of a difference now, but it's good to see that working. He then bombs Pegu troops, crushing the brigade there and taking out about 20% of it's infantry disabled in one day, even with level 6 forts. Sillyness. CENTRAL PACFIC: Getting some sigint between Hawaii and Wake. Something big coming. The final stages of the war have arrived. Time for a new way of thinking, again? The only hope is one of desperation. Kamikaze activation could come soon. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
