15 - 20 April 1945 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DEI: By mid-May Singers should be under siege and Palembang should be in Allied hands. STRAT BOMBING: Several attacks wipe out more Chinese LI, both HI and LI at Port Arthur, and for the first time and engine factory is hit specifically. This causes a around 80 points of damage to the factories. Happily, many of these were contested strikes, so the B-29s suffered almost as much as the NF. CHINA: After many weeks of daily pounding from the air the troops near Paoshan were finally pushed back. They started virtually even with the Allied numbers ,ad never suffered more in a ground assault, but are only 1/4 of the Allied strength now, and that is all from air strikes. Now Tsuyung will be the target. I'll have about 500AV there with little supply and level 6 forts. Around Liuchow Allied 4Es crush the ground troops. It's a clear hex area, so nothing we can do. Really sucks this works as it does. One perfectly intact division is rendered completely combat ineffective in three days of bombing. It's the game, but it doesn't really allow any kind of ground maneuver, or really any decision making at all except don't move and don't go in the clear. It's just blast away and move through. My positions must either retreat or remain fairly static in areas in or close to clear hexes. Silly. Not sure what to do at Canton and HK. Leave the troops to wither and be bypassed, or move them out and have them bludgeoned for four days by massed air strikes through the one clear hex toward Kukong? Not much of a good choice either way. It's definitely different than in 42 when it's the Chinese suffering, as these are fully filled out divisions with great morale, supply, and experience getting pounded into oblivion in a few days. There is no HR that makes it work better, but there it's my belief there should be a reduction in overall bomb strength against ground troops. I'm not a modder, so I don't know if it's possible, but that would solve a lot of the problems in China early and with the 4E ground bombing mission in the late war. I'm sure if this would work so well the Allies would have done it more than once or twice during the war. Once he decides to bomb the Changsha area that too will be extremely vulnerable. He really doesn't need ground troops at all! Just fly 500-600 sorties daily and land some para-forces once the Japanese troops have been vaporized. HOME ISLANDS: Recent turns showed the perils of turning on the air strikes against naval targets. Japanese strikes took out a few DDs and also about 65 Peggys flying kami missions went for PTs and got crushed. The Allies sent strikes in and sunk one DD for the loss of around 250-70 planes. Our CAP was pretty devastating even reacting from 2-3 hexes away. Not bad. I'll have to use this only sporadically though to cover the ships s sweepers on the islands off of Kyushu can get bleeding Cap and take out extreme numbers of our best fighters, as also evidenced below. Of course this time we did the same over Allied held islands downing around 30 Hellcats from the CV fleet with Ki-83 sweeps. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR April 15, 45 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Air attack on Hiroshima/Kure , at 106,58 Weather in hex: Heavy rain Raid detected at 70 NM, estimated altitude 9,000 feet.
