Midget submarines have very limited "fuel" (Type A's had none actually and were completely battery powered AND unable to recharge their batteries). What happens to them when they run out?

With 1 or 3 or 4 fuels just how long does it take to run out of fuel?

I was just curious because it seems there are a bunch of midget subs "haunting" my beachhead at Gasmata (I'm Allied) but they neither seem to be doing much or "going away" (other than the one or two that have been attacked either by air or escorts and hit...they've only made one unsuccessful attack). The "haunting" seemed to start all at once rather than over time and it seems to continue according to the Ops report with multiple TFs always present over the course of the last month.

Midgets operate under the same fuel rules as every other ship. Why wouldn't they?

I have this as well in multiple ports I took from the Japanese AI. I sink the same numbered midget sub in Manila every day, and have for over six months. I assume it's a DB glitch of some kind. I have a red submarine icon in the hex most days, but the sub never attacks. It also never sinks. Have seen this behavior in other PI ports and Soerbaja for less duration. I'm playing a beta about six or seven versions ago in a game started before the last official patch and the last data patch. It's not fatal, just annoying.

I have a long list of sunken midget subs in the SUnk Ships list, going back to the earliest days of the war. This phenom only started when I started taking ports where midgets were left behind when the hex fell to me. I asume they should scuttle, but they don't.

Thanks.

It doesn't make a lot of sense for the crew of a mechanically/electrically dead ship to hang around for a month waiting to either suffocate or swamp in rough weather (or starve or die of thirst) and sink...I was just wondering if maybe my opp was replenishing the "supply" of midgets.

When I took truk there were (midget I assume) submarines in the hex that took half a year to go away. They never attacked anything and I placed a bunch of ASW TF's and ASW air patrols in the hex that never found anything to attack. Just had that little red enemy sub icon in the hex.

That's what I have except my TFs do attack, and I get a combat report on the attack with the sub reported sunk. Every day for months. I can post some if anybody wants.

When I played Guadalcanal Scenario, I had Midget Subs in enemy ports for weeks, and they did not seem to used any fuel. But it was not always the case.
Well, OK, they sometimes used fuel, but when I send there Bombard TF they refueled somehow, but I think they also did not used fuel, when there was no my other TFs for few days. Anyway, there is surely no option to refuel them manually from other TF.

So.... bug? Maybe they do not use movement, when stay in one hex?

When they ran dry, they got System Damages very quickly.

So how long should it take to use 1 fuel (Type A SSX)?

If they move, they use it normally. Most early midgets have only 4 hexes range.

Sounds like a legitimate bug that MichaelM would be interested in, Moose. Post a save in the Tech Support forum for him.

Nah not a bug. What you are experiencing is the IJN getting the rest of Yamashita's gold out of the Philippines. If you hadn't rudely interrupted this relocation exercise by not having the good sense to have waited until the Japanese lease on Luzon had expired before invading, you wouldn't now be seeing the midget subs taking away their small cargos. Now if you were to be kind enough to arrange for a local ceasefire, I'm sure the Japanese authorities would minimise the inconvenience caused to you by the midgets and send in a cargo task force to expedite the removal.

Do your Tf's gain any experience killing all those midget subs? Could be a great way to train up some ASW TF's.

At this point my ASW ships are all '11's, have superior crews, Hedgehogs, and kill most every sub they find.

I love 1945.

I know. I'm on the other side. Everything I have gets killed in an eyeblink. I hate 1945.
