Victory at Liuchow? A bit of a stretch since it's a pyrrhic one. He lost more squads destroyed than the allies but the proportion of lost/remaining is in his favour since he has double the number of troops. Still, when one is getting kicked around turn after turn, a glimmer of success anywhere is good for the morale!

Yes, I WILL take any victory I can get just now! It wasn't really so bad there as we got better than a 3 to 1 ratio on disabled and destroyed squads. The troop count was different, but I take that to mean that each Chinese squad has more men than Japanese squad.

The 18th is lagging behind running to escape in Burma, air is targeting them, Imperial ground forces are coming on fast and they smell blood. They will likely get lots of it. The battle near Liuchow was important for morale!

The massive extent of those radio messages at Singapore has me wondering what is up there? Lots of ships showed up in port (on a mouse-over), as expected, but what else?

Maybe Tokyo Rose moved her base of operations to Singapore ...

There were Imperial amphibious operations at:

There were Allied amphibious operations at:

There were two nighttime naval bombardments of our troops at Cox's Bazar, one by battleships and heavy cruiser, the other by light cruisers. Our troops were sitting tight (no attack orders) and now show 66% disruption. Will there be anyone else to bombard tonight?

I read in another post that putting the troops in Reserve Mode helps reduce casualties. I guess that means they are not sitting in the front line foxholes so the bombardment misses most of them. If there are no enemy troops in the hex I would try it.

They are facing a brigade and as they are the only infantry force in the hex I can't risk it. Let's see if a Dutch or British sub - they have working torpedoes! - can nail a big ship during these shuttle runs.

Our guys performed well, but a lot of squads went off line. Reinforcements are on the way. A large radio source is headed south from Japan in the direction of Truk. The USA 32nd ID and 5 arty units are 3 or 4 days out from Sydney. Various aircraft and base personnel are 4 or 5 days out from Melbourne. No gin of the KB, and no sign of bombardment forces in the Bay of Bengal. Here is a look at the Australian 7th Division.

Lots of aerial bombing today but no ground combat. No sign of KB, unless that radio contact - which is now SE Bonin Islands - is it. 7th Australian Division is down to 18% disruption. Here is a look at the maneuvering in Central China.

Don't Japanese CVs upgrade in June 42? Could be KB going off-line for a month? I think Mini-KB is not in for refit though.

Well that particular target has been in contact for 3 days heading south, away from Japan. That, of course, presumes that all 3 radio contacts were the same target. It could just be a big tanker, supply, or troop convoy.

The reinforcements need two days to reach the scene so if the Empire's troops attack tomorrow the position will fall. The Indian 46th Bde and the British 18th Div have been caught up by the first Imperial unit (strong forces are following that one), but they might make an escape before an attack can be delivered tomorrow. An additional enemy unit, presumed to be at least a regiment, has arrived at Cox's Bazar.

No sign of KB. That radio source was not apparent today. Here is a look at Burma.

Now the victorious units are redeploying to expel the IJA unit near to Kweilin and to meet the new vector of the additional IJA unit that was underway to reinforce the now defunct river-crossing. That radio source target is back, more or less on course. Unfortunately the two subs patrolling in front of them are not currently on station. It was a good day in the air overall, 15 to 1 for us. Some of those were near Tennant Creek and some over Cox's Bazar. Near Tennant Creek the air attacks of both sides have been getting more and more effective.

The 2/5 and 2/6 Armoured Regiments are in tough shape from these attacks. The USA 192nd Tank Bn is about 3 days out and together they should be able to defeat the two recon Rgts they are facing. There are two infantry regiments on the road to Tennant Creek but they might only arrive at the battlefield when Imperial reinforcements arrive, so the goal is to push them back ASAP. Tomorrow No76 Sqn will provide LRCAP from Tennant Creek (two hexes distant), while the 80th FS will bring the P-38E into action for the first time by sweeping from Alice Springs.

Meanwhile, IJN subs are flowing down the eastern coast of Australia. The USA 32nd ID is currently 40nm out from Sydney trying to dodge one of them. The other convoy, mostly carrying aircraft, will make Melbourne tonight.

The two convoys have made Sydney and Melbourne without incident and have unloaded almost all troops, equipment, and planes already. Now there are two sizable radio contacts found. Admiral Murphy made certain that the subs patrolling those very areas are off to Pearl Harbor to replenish!

No ground combat today. P-38Es got their first kills over central Australia. two or three for no losses, but they had an ops loss for naught yesterday. Those large radio contacts are lost. A strong sighting on our small resupply convoy at Midway, far more than is typical for a sub-launched float plane. I wonder if something else is up?

Perhaps your own SIGINT guys at Midway picked up the transmissions and put it in their report! I have seen that in the Allied SIGINT report about 5% of the time!

For a while now Sallies and their escorts have been chewed up by CAP from Chittagong when attacking our troops at Cox's Bazar. Today again they were dealt a blow with 9 Sallies and 6 Oscars failing return or land safely. Near Lashio the haggard, fleeing rabble held off the IJA 1st Tank Regiment in its effort to run them down. They should all be able to leave the hex tomorrow before being attacked again, doubly important as an infantry regiment has shown up to press the matter.

There are now 10 enemy units astride Katha, but their direction of movement is unobserved. Back in China, I forget to mention in yesterday's entry that Nanning is being abandoned. The undermining of the position outside of Liuchow makes that the best move as those same Imperial units are moving to block the road between the two cities.

In Australia the Empire's reinforcements to the small tank battle 92mi from Tennant Creek have been sighted, although their size and composition remain a mystery. The USA 192nd Tank Bn has joined with the Aussies and they will attack together tomorrow. Blenheims and B-17s will assist, while B-26s interdict movement of the closest reinforcement in hopes of keeping it from arriving at the most inopportune time.

Hmmm, I'm not sure the game code does that. I was wondering if maybe there was a more capable sighting by long range recon out of Wake Island. Hopefully of course it is not an invasion force sneaking up through or around search coverage!

Yeah, I'm not really sure the SIGINT on an allied unit would change the DL, I just find it very strange that the SIGINT report includes detections of allied units [including major bases like San Francisco] at all. Doesn't anyone vett these things before they are presented to us admirable admirals?

It usually just gives a hex reference and when you check it out, it's on top of an allied base [or TF]. Caveat - I haven't checked SIGINT that closely since the big upgrade a short time ago so it may have been fixed and I am just not aware. Prior to that I had just gotten the game was studying every detail to try and understand how to use it in a campaign. That's when I saw the occasional SIGINT on own bases and TFs.

There were Imperial amphibious operations at:

There were Allied amphibious operations at:

The bad news is that the 18th and the three brigades NW of Katha have been caught up by the first Imperial unit. The good news is that there is one or more additional units moving from Akyab toward Cox's Bazar. Perhaps we can draw them into a larger fight, or maybe they just want to hold a retreat route open. Even better, in Australia the attack went well.

Three detections seems awfully chatty for a military fleet - I would suspect transports. That's my way of saying I have no idea ...

I'm thinking either a honking big transport of development/defensive troops, or an invasion armada heading somewhere. Of course, the USN carriers are on their way to the West Coast to upgrade...

More IJA units have arrived 1 hex NW Katha and presumably others are on the way. Likewise 3 more units have arrived outside of Lashio. Almost all our units need just tomorrow to link up with the armour at Bhamo. The exception is the 45th Indian Brigade, which will attempt to run in move mode to keep up. Air attacks thwarted that effort to catch up today. A CA/CL bombardment went in against our troops at Cox's Bazar, and the effects were minor. The other news concerning Burma is that at least 2 IJA units have moved into China toward Paoshan. At least 3 more units have yet to commit to either Paoshan or the pursuit of the Allies falling back on Bhamo.

While uncertain, it looks like there could be a division plus a regiment bearing down on Tennant Creek along with those two vanquished recon regiments. In defense we will field about the same aggregate combat power, but with more and better tanks.

Here is that Burma situation.

Will you be able to get enough supply to sustain your defence at TC?

Funny you should ask! That's the very question I was pondering this turn. Just started flying in supplies to supplement those over the roads. An airfield size was added just a couple of tuns ago, which added 100 to the daily cap. I think it's 600 now. Given that all other bases are too far for short range pull, that's pretty puny.

I just don't know.
