George,

I saw your post to Luskan regarding startegy points, specifically interested in the training for bombers. I have noticed that your attack bombers really do take a lot of losses so I will be trying to train more of those than might seem to be warranted going by operational squadrons. Also, you described the milk runs to boost experiencxe. Question - would having your bombers fly transport missions, BEHIND the lines, make their experience pop faster than pure training missions?

There were Allied amphibious or airborne operations at:

Allied Naval Bombardments:

Our subs got an xAK and an AK - back in action!

The road between Lang Son and Nanning is officially cut.

In fact the weather was bad over the target hex and none of our 2EB attack bombers flew. They will start working over the unit east of Lang Son while the divisions and armor move to engage it. There are about 50% more troops seen in Nanning than yesterday, now 37,000 troops in 17 units, and some of them are moving west, to cross the river and take up a position NW of the road. The sea lift into Pakhoi continues splendidly. There were no big Imperial fighter sweeps today! Weather improved over Kunming and some 2EB got in to work with the fighters (the fighters are making low attacks) so we will try a ground attack tomorrow.

Good damage done to the Imperials retreating down the Peninsula.

Three of our divisions at Naha have disruption percentages of 36%, 75%, and 70%. All units there except the infantry divisions have fortified to level 3, the infantry still at level 2. The troops at Nago are all still at level 2 but the better defensive terrain is thwarting the accuracy of air strikes. And then there was this.
quote:

1st USMC AA Battalion destroyed near Naha !!!

By Grabthar's Hammer, we shall avenge thee! And repurchase and rebuild, of course.

It looks as though the Imperial submarine horde have given up chasing convoys and are now standing in the waters between Daito Shoto and Okinawa, hoping for a shot at our carriers should they sprint for Okinawa. Gathering more ASW forces to clear the waters ahead of the carriers.

One more APA convoy to go at Guam, which will arrive tomorrow. Then we will form up new convoys for Daito Shoto. Two of the four fleet carrier TFs will arrive at Guam to replenish tomorrow.

Indochina.

Western China is starting to look tougher! Perhaps Andav has dug in!

A capitol ship without destroyers is usually a damaged or sunk ship....

I am not one of the pilot training mavens, so you are advised to look elsewhere! Now that you have been duly warned...

I remember trying that way, way back in WITP days. As best I remember I did not think it was worth it. That might not apply to AE. Did I mention you should ask someone else?

All get destroyers for escort! Going from some of my own game experience and tons of other players' experience, I:

- Keep ship speed and guns pretty well matched. The result is that BB, CA, and CL are usually in a TF with their own.
- Keep the TFs down to about 2x cruisers (either CL or CA) or 1 or 2 BB. In this game my old BBs got savaged by my dastardly opponent, so it is 1x old BB per bombardment TF. The reason for small packets is:
- Bombard as many days as possible. Keeping up the bombardment is more important than getting fewer "good" bombardments. At least that is my working theory.
- The vast majority of the time, the cruiser TFs get a Patrol setting to get to and wait a their station, along with some suitable React range. When their turn comes, the Patrol is cancelled, mission changed to bombardment, and the target given. But in the meantime they act as surface combat guards.

Having those small packets allows me to have a bunch of them, and due to distances allows me to bombard for more days. If I used larger bombardment TFs I would leave the enemy positions undisturbed on many more days.

The more I thought about it, I was sort of concluding that most likely he is sending that unit across the river to get behind my units if they move right on Nanning. Either way, there will be a large formation of Chinese Army units guarding that supply route when I bypass Nanning.

My tentative plan is to eject/destroy that unit just east of Lang Son, then send the armor into Lang Son to flip the hex side. After the base is captured, the bulk of the armor will move on while some regiments and Chinese Army units slowly clean up the pocket. They own 3 other Lang Son hex sides and I have units tasked with flipping each of them to prevent movement.

A question. How is the supply situation at Naha and Nago? I have seen the screenshots above, so I see you still have a lot of supply there. But, how much supply did you consume already?

I mean, he has been bombarding your troops constantly and you have high disruption in some places. Have you noticed a high consumption? You're also at staking limit x2 at Naha. So I'm curious.

About Java. Do you think you have enough forces there already to capture Batavia? Or will you have to send something more?

At this point in the war the US economy is spitting out DEs at a pretty good clip. Do you use those strictly for convoy escorts, or do they make it into Amph TF and/or Bmb. Tfs?

I'm using them for invasion convoys and for CVE TFs, both in addition to destroyers. And of course for anything behind the lines.

Nago
>78,000 when the fleet departed.
75,910 now.
2,808 "Required" now.
~2,090 used (from 78,000).

Naho
>169,000 when the fleet departed.
137,355 now.
35,112 "Required" now.
~31,645 used (from 169,000).

Experience in the past has dictated bringing ginormous amounts of supply. This instance being different from pasts instances, insofar as the fleet departing and exposing the troops to significant sustained attack, shows how important it is to have beyond what seems copious supply.

After the Daito Shoto invasion there will be an LST convoy standing by with more supply for Naha, if needed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But the very good news is that on a primary road from two major supply routes the Imperial forces had a supply (-)! Today's bad news in China is Imperial fighter sweeps really knocked our boys about. They were concentrated over our two USA divisions and armored Bde racing to cut off Imperial positions in Lang Son. In spite of the beating our fliers took, they still dished it out when enemy bombers appeared, rendering the strikes just barely effective. One division was flipped to combat mode as was the armored Bde. Tomorrow the armored Bde will cut off the line of retreat from Lang Son (barring Imperial invention of a tractor beam to stop their movement, now at 30 miles). The USA 81st Div stands at 29 miles and will also make it if they can stay in move mode. LRCAP out of Haiphong and Hanoi will be reconfigured for tomorrow. The concentration on the forces conducting the encirclement of Lang Son has left the two Australian divisions moving on Kwangchowan free from death glider attacks. They will now switch back to move mode and sprint the remaining 36 miles into Kwangchowan.

Success on Sumatra, and Malaya too!

Unfortunately, the Imperial strikes on our troops at Naha are also quite effective, and most of our divisions are badly disrupted as a result. Some ASW TFs will begin sweeping forward of the carriers to the NW of Daito Shoto and the carriers will reposition to jump off points.

All Daito Shoto invasion convoys have been created and are on the way to pick up their assigned passengers. Two fleet carrier TFs have replenished at Guam and are putting right back to sea without full tanks. They will meet oilers at sea on the way back to the battle zone.

Indochina.

I know! But this might just be their last hurrah for hitting undefended targets.

Imperial Naval Bombardments

Allied Naval Bombardments:
Allied Ships Bombarding Daito Shoto

Our subs got an xAK and were involved in other battles. IJN subs got a CA, a CL, and a DE. The good news it that those ships do not require repairs.

Retreat from Lang Son is now cut off. Next up - stop all possibility of movement out of Lang Son. One division and the tank Bde will attack tomorrow just east of Lang Son to take sole possession of the road. We bombarded at Kunming without direct effect; though hopefully still cost the Empire supply. Our own troops there are short of supply but otherwise ready to attack again. The supply airlift is being reconfigured.

The Imperials are still being chased down the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra.

The attack at Lang Son went much better than last time.

Bloody for all involved, that one! The 2EB attack bombers went in full force but will stand down until the next ground attack. Our troops are in decent shape and it looks like no unit got slammed. At least 2 days rest is in order, possibly more with the over crowding.
