Here are three operations presented in terms of target bases and current SigInt on those bases. Two of them are related. One of them is a shift in axis, similar to how we rocked back and forth between Okinawa and Indochina. None have any preparation ongoing.

I like all of them. Can I pick all of them together? :P

I don't have this mod installed, so I'm not entirely sure how much those bases can grow in the game you're playing. Especially regarding airfields of course.

Hokkaido would give you a large, unsinkable platform very close to japan, especially for 4e bombers.

Nudge and Nudge closer instead would allow you to completely shut down just about any mercantile ships still moving between japan and the mainland (Korea mainly) as well as give you forward, close airfields for recon, LRCAP, sweeps and the like. Not sure about bombers, as said before.

I will play devil's advocate. Can you, at this point in time, engage in an air war of attrition against japan? Are your aircraft pools deep enough?

I believe burning Japan would be more feasible, at this point.

Ah - I think Walter said mostly 30 to 40 minutes, but I'm sure that varies greatly on some turns. Turnaround is a few turns per week now, just because of silly real life.

And I think operations on either of the sides will help with that, both in terms of bomber bases and most importantly fighter bases.

Which comes first: Hokkaido or Nudge/Nudge Closer?

That's what I want to do!

I'll have a look next time I have a turn. I skipped one base in the Nudge area that has o airbase plus none built. Hokkaido has several that can build to 9. Nudge Closer might have one or two. I think Nudge has none.

The tough question. I think so. Especially if I get to hit factories as it gets really ugly in the air. But if I fritter away the P-47D25 pool before the P-47N arrives, that would be "bad".

30 or 40 min sounds pretty good. Japanese side is hard with production issues, in particular the first turns should take longer, later it can be more feasible i think.

That last attack, SE of Kunming, made progress and we might be able to prevail there after enough repeats. The bigger story is that the Empire finally went full bore after our troops in the open, and although some strikes fought their way through in spite of our fighters, almost all took a serious beating. See the air losses below. All the divisions were still in movement mode so continued at full speed. Only a combat engineer group was switched into combat mode, but disruption was a very modest 14%. Some raids on our southern armour unit outran the LRCAP pursuit, although others paid a heavy price when caught after their successful bombing run. The unit has been halted in place for now. Disruption is 97%.

With so many Imperial bomber groups weakened and likely fatigued by flying into strong CAP, we are now loading the Hainan invasion which will land at Kiungshan.

We found the CL that disappeared from Palembang. Crikey!

There are still 2 enemy units left on Daito Shoto, but the end is near. Both infantry units and one armored unit must pause to recover disruption, but the two other armored units will attack tomorrow with the usual fantastic artillery support. Loads of support units have landed and are beginning to unpack. 3rd USMC Div has finished loading and is moving out.

There were no air strikes attempted against our troops at Naha. AV there is 2,721 and the highest disruption among the divisions is 10%! Supply will begin landing tonight (both convoys) and the old battleships will begin negotiations.

China.

Well, andav really is super aggressive. That single cruiser strike. Wow. And it actually hit with a torpedo :P And his bombardments might be working well, but he's really using up a lot of bombers!

About Hokkaido, as expected a lot of potential size-9 airfields, and even a size 9 port which is always nice.
Operation Nudge and Nudge closer instead would give you several size 7 airfields and one size 8, which is better than I expected. The question then is still whether or not you have enough planes right now to embark in such a prolonged war of attrition :P

And yes you completely maxed out the engineers on Daito Shoto. According to some table I found on this forum, for Daito Shoto the maximum amount of engineers usable is something like 500, and you have more than 1700 counting engineering vehicles :P

Jintsu! Too bad she didn't cause any collisions, too.

Andav doesn't have much at all on Hokkaido. Heck, I had more on Hokkaido and I lost it in Jan 44 I think.

Are there a lot of engine factories on Hokkaido?

I think that you have turned the corner at Long San since the destroyed items are greater than the disabled ones. Except for the clerks and cooks while the ditch diggers are equally destroyed/disabled.

As far as the lone cruiser, it is better to go out that way than bombed in port.

As far as bombing your troops, unless he can use them effectively as "Special Attack" units, the bombers are best used to slow down your attacks than getting bombed on the ground.

It only takes one hit if it were to explode in an important place like the magazine. I sank an "E" with one 6" shell that way.

Maybe make a small SCTF and have your carriers follow it? A CA, CL and two DDs with good captains as well as excellent day/night training?

I think he was implying that the hit wasn't very much. As far as a separate SCTF, the carrier TF is down there alone. CA London is the biggest escort. Remember that this game has been a "little tough" on RN, et al cruisers.

The battleships are at/near Alor Star so that when (translate = planning for success) the Imperial stack is retreated into Georgetown, the battleships will shatter their formations so our troops have time to cut them off and trap them there.

Magazine explosions are pretty rare - about one in a hundred penetrating hits results in one from what I have seen. You can't rely on them in your planning - a naval battle is more likely to be a grind where the less capable force gets ground down the most.

PS - even more rare: someone reported getting an enemy CV with a magazine explosion (not the usual Ammo Storage Explosion) and a couple of times in my games I have seen a non-penetrating hit trigger a magazine explosion (after a deck hit and "fires on the main deck" message).

Clever Imperial bombers are trying to deplete our stocks of .50 cal ammo! Our southern armoured unit still has 95% disruption but I suspect they will start to recover. Our P-51B sweeps over Tuyun fought to about even. See air losses below. The Hainan invasion convoys will move to a point 1 hex NW of Kiungshan, covered by the 2x CL TF and 2x groups of Spitfire VIII. The continued heavy losses to Imperial bomber groups should make their passage less treacherous. None of our ships in the Gulf of Tonkin have been spotted by naval search recently. Annoyingly, Haiphong is short of fuel.

All the armour in the spearhead moving down the Malay Peninsula has caught up to the enemy between Alor Star, Georgetown, and Taiping and will attack tomorrow. Two divisions will catch up then and be able to carry on the attack the following day if necessary, the idea being to retreat the enemy troops into Georgetown and prevent them from reaching Taiping. Meanwhile enemy units are seen already moving SE from Georgetown, so Burnett with Valiant and Queen Elizabeth will bombard tonight to hamper their progress. Willis with Prince of Wales, Howe, King George V, Richelieu, and Renown is also at Alor Star, waiting for the Imperial main body to be retreated into Georgetown so that similar treatment may be applied.

When first one and then a second base on the western coast of Malaya came over to our side, I neglected to take advantage of that by immediately flying in troops from Victoria Point and moving them out to block roads and rails. One has since gone back to the Dark Side, but Utan Melintang is still ours. Two units will begin flying in at once and the balance will be brought in by sea in assault transport. A small part of one is loading now on a single LST at Langkawi, the island they seized NW of Alor Star. That element will land in the clear hex just NE of Utan Melintang, set up a blocking position and await the rest of their unit. Not to mention cross their fingers.

Good progress at Lang Son.

Rawlings' carriers were under heavy cloud and so made no strikes against the PB horde guarding Palembang. Tomorrow they will move to a position 1 hex SW of Padang, 7 hexes from both Palembang and Singapore. A TF off Singapore scouts as a CV and a BB, perhaps preparing to make a dash.

Tomorrow they will be joined by the other armored unit, the division, and the regiment. Daito Shoto airfield is now size 2, Corsairs moving in. A Kamikaze group was destroyed by P-47D25 on CAP (from DS) before they could attack a DD SCTF patrolling a line NE of Daito Shoto to up near Tokunoshima.

The troops at Naha have been resupplied and are in great shape. AV is up to 2,751 and while not fully recovered in that sense, they will make their first attack tomorrow. The B-29 groups will be diverted from attacks on Daito Shoto to strike defensive positions around Naha. The CVE based Avengers will all join in. All five old BB (1 per TF) will bombard, as will several CA and CL TF, and the three Iowa BBs.

Troops on New Guinea have begun loading for the Tokunoshima invasion.

IJN cruisers spotted in the South China Sea.

China. There is now an enemy unit in the forest just west of Canton: that was the movement seen out of Canton a few days ago. NE of Tuyun Imperial forces have disengaged. They're running away!
