Maybe she was saving it for carrier plane target practice? A large batch of attack transports (APA) is being sent from Guam to Cam Ranh Bay for sea lift of the the Takao invasion forces. This is ahead of just-in-time: the carriers will need to replenish after Amami Oshima is taken, and of course the first assault is tomorrow. China.
