Status: offline 		Yikes! The fact that you are almost certainly right doesn't make that any more palatable a proposition. Well, Burma is going to be a grind, no doubt about it. In about 4 days the largest mass of amphibious transport ships will get back to Pearl and begin loading up for another delivery to Fiji, which will immediately be followed by them loading up assault forces at Fiji for Noumea. After that it all depends on how the expected naval combat there works out. Forces are ready to move right on up into the Solomons.

My point is, naval combat results being "good enough", whatever that is, in a few weeks the Empire should begin feeling significant pressure on its eastern flank. Will that save China? The world wonders...

A load of oil arrived at Melbourne! It appears that the Empire's submarine force is no longer patrolling the Cape Town <-> Melbourne route. A large B-17 raid from Calcutta failed to go against Meiktila. Maybe the weather? Morale is tops among the groups and they have good commanders. I'm rearranging the location of some air HQs and also replaced commanders of two of them. The B-25s still have not flown against the closed Akyab airfield, so perhaps there is a heavy LRCAP there. The first P-40K sweep will test the air over Akyab tomorrow. Force Z is attempting to make its way stealthily into the Bay of Bengal so we can coordinate air and sea bombardments with a ground assault outside of Akyab. Surprise, speed, and a bit of luck are called for.

The beatings in China continue, and today the Empire's effort to flank the defenses of Paoshan were revealed. The 35th Chinese Corps guards the road behind that gateway town. Now they see Imperial troops taking positions in the mountains across the river. Hopefully they are foot-sore.

About a half dozen more Zeros were taken out of the skies over Port Moresby today by P-38Es. The P-40Ks did well over Akyab by all coming home safe while knocking down a few of their opposites. Heavy air attacks all over China and the octopus closing in. Does Chiang Kai-Shek even know where to find India? Maybe one of his generals knows.

V US Bomber Command has made it to Cairns to supervise the reduction of Port Moresby. I have been trying to use the LB-30 four-engine bombers for recon, and even with trained recon pilots they are just plain lousy at providing any real Intel. This is a long term opinion from several games. They don't don't have a dedicated camera device, but I figured they would be worth something. Not! At least not on a Recon mission. I'm going to try bombing with them, not to achieve damage but just to see if they recon worth a fart that way. the group at Brisbane has been not looking at Noumea, while the group at Suva has been ignoring Luganville.

The large convoy of (now empty) amphibious capable ships makes Pearl harbor tonight or tomorrow. Most of them will begin loading right away at Pearl or moving to load elsewhere in the Hawaiian Islands. They will bring any remaining troops for the invasion of Noumea plus anybody else they can carry to Fiji. Transports from Australia are nearing New Zealand to pick up the Kiwi participants in combat load when the starting gun sounds. Imperial submarines have already begun to operate off of Suva having gained knowledge of activity there.

The night began with 4 x unsuccessful attacks by USN subs on Imperial merchantmen. There seems to be something wrong with our bloody torpedoes...

The Lightnings and Liberators killed about 11 Zeros and 4 Nells in the air and on the ground at Port Moresby in exchange for 1 of each of ours. I hope invading turns out to be that easy. Noumea and Luganville were both attacked as ordered and although both bomber groups reported hitting their target they also reported not seeing their target as detection levels at both enemy held bases are 0/0. Sigh.

Amid the aerial beatings in China a second unit has emerged across the river from the road behind Paoshan. Reinforcements are on the way.

This could get interesting...

Status: offline 		Moving a LYB infantry unit out of jungle is a chore under the best of circumstances, but you seem to be on the right path.....bomb'em, bombard'em, blow'em up and bayonet the remaining lot.  It takes all that to dig them out.  On the bright side, you won't have to deal with a large population of prisoners as a rule.

I assume that Akyab is unuseable for bombers.  I'd hate to see Force Z zapped by LB torpedo planes.  If Tom Thumb Phillips is still in command...have someone frag him immediately.

Anyway, hope it goes well and you clobber the LYBs wholesale.

Status: offline 		Akyab last scouts as 66% damaged for size 3 airfield - closed even to fighters. But that report is variable each turn based on FOW. I'm comfortable about no bombers there as 35% is the limit for level 3 (20% + 5% per level for offensive missions and 50% + 5% per level for CAP).

I don't remember if ol' Tom is still in charge. Hmm.

I called the manufacturer's rep. He said:

"No, no - it's never the equipment - it's always the operator who causes the problem. Nothing wrong with the exploders at all; it's just that those bloody submariners keep putting them in water and expect them to work ..."

About the lack of recon data on freshly bombed bases, I have seen that happen too and decided my guys have been decoyed by the rubber and canvas tanks and planes set up to soak up the attack...

Yes that was success! Force Z is still unseen by Imperial eyes and has reached their departure point. Orders are given: Adm Somerville will take in Force Z to bombard, all bombers available will bomb, and the ground troops will assault.

I have no idea why Force Z navigated back through Cox's Bazar, but we got lucky there were no mine hits! The ground combat result was pretty good, although the untis need to rest and recover. The medium bombers flew! They fared well enough, losing just a couple to ops issues while their escorts did a little better than the CAP. The heavies hit Akyab and all made it back. Even though the mission to Akyab is on the short side for the heavies, they gained enough fatigue to show that Resistance was stout.

We got hit with a partisan attack at Kunming as the large unit is rushing west from there. Additional garrison is on the way but will take a while. A unit needing R&R is there but falls short of the additional needed (beyond the base force) to make up the garrison requirement until some squads are repaired.

Units are loading in the Hawaiian Islands for convoy to Fiji. Meanwhile, DAW HQ has received information on our current troop convoy lane. Time to move it.

B-24s pounded Port Moresby airfield while P-38s zoomed through high overhead. Back in China the Empire used great numbers of aircraft to achieve the same effect over a wider area. Our P-38s knocked almost a dozen zeros out of the sky over Milne Bay even though the bombers could not fly due to weather. Over Burma things were more even, but the bombers are getting on target.

Suva airfield has made level 4 and construction will now shift to the port facilities, which are now level 3. Improving them before the mass of troops arrive to begin combat loading will help a great deal.

Force Z made the western coast of India and is headed for Bombay.

Still lots of sub sightings and engagements near and at Auckland, which is why troops leaving from New Zealand's North Island will embark at Wellington. I've bought out the 2nd Australian Division for Southwest Pacific command. They now begin prepping for Milne Bay.

The B-24s hit Milne Bay's port facilities, while the B-17s hit Akyab port and airfield. The heavies did well. The mediums going at the troops outside Akyab mostly did well even though their fighter escorts were largely absent. About 5 x Wellingtons were lost, which was the worst part. P-39s made several runs at IJN destroyers at Akyab, achieving a number of shell hits but I am uncertain of what caliber.

Near Tuyun DAW's HQ has convinced the mighty Admiral that another massive infiltration is in order and perhaps 11 units are already marching through the forest.

Otherwise in combat, the Empire harried and blasted Chinese units from the air all over China, our aircraft made successful runs on the Imperial troops outside Akyab, and also against Port Moresby. Little xAKL Jalatarang has so far unloaded more than 300 supply at Cox's Bazar and greatly boosted construction there. Another 299 will be unloaded tonight before she and PC Sonavati hightail it for Chittagong.

Prince of Wales and Repulse are in pier side repair at Bombay to get back in shape after their sprints in the Bay of Bengal.

Air attacks across China and then by our side in Burma. Tomorrow the Allied forces outside Akyab will make an assault, aided by all the 4EB, 2EB, and 1EB that can get there. This will be the combat debut of the Vengeance dive bomber, surely a war winner in the East.

In China there are now reinforcements 40 miles from Lanchow. They will then make haste to Ningsia, but supplies are so lacking for the forces already in place there that I doubt the town can hold. All this time and only level 1 fortifications due to lack of supply.

Two troop convoys are nearing Fiji, obviously their routing was changed by Murphy to ensure they would overload the as yet meagerly developed port facilities. The carriers will stand watch along with the fighters based on Fiji. Another troop convoy sets out from Hawaii today, this one with the two escort carriers, and then tomorrow an aircraft ferry convoy. The large troop convoy has passed the northern segment of the Line Islands and is still safely (hopefully!) shrouded under heavy rain as they make their way southwest.

Here is a look at Burma, although I fear it looks very much like the last pic. There is an enemy surface force making toward the battle area again, no doubt to worry our little cargo ship. The P-39s have been alerted for anti-ship duty.

That is reported sunk. Another sub is seen just east of Auckland.

Fighter coordination over Burma was lousy as only the 4EBs got escorted. Who's idea was that? The weather over the fighter base allowed the fighter sweeps in the afternoon, but all the 2 engined bombers had gone in the morning. A few 2EB were lost, but an equal number of Tojos were taken. The ground attack went as well as expected, which is to say that perhaps no progress was made.

The USN made ASW attacks near the Channel Islands and Pago Pago. No luck but it's better than letting the buggers have free rein. Both convoys that were spotted yesterday sailed away from detection today, aided by the weather. Both convoys that pulled into Suva are now seen in their place, however. The carriers standing guard maintain a stealthy presence.

The remnant of a fighting force retreated rather than surrender.

Over on the coast of Burma the bombers stood down in the rain to recover fatigue and morale. One little freighter, loaded yesterday, braved the likely deployment of Imperial destroyers to deliver construction supplies to Cox's Bazar. The IJN force seen WSW of Rangoon was only 80nm away when the sun rose. In the distance from Cox's Bazar there was - "Is that a bird, or Superman?" No, it's the Allied air forces heading toward the enemy!

The USN continues to harry IJN subs near the Channel Islands. Given that is fertile ground to intercept tanker convoys, I can see why they keep coming back in spite of the welcome. 1 hit reported.

A fairly busy day in the air, but not momentous. The B-24s hit Port Moresby for good effect, destroying 2 or 3 fighters on the ground. The P-40K sweeps over the IJA troops outside Akyab did well, losing two and taking at least a half dozen.

The 40th Infantry Division is mostly unloaded at Suva, but all the other units (in the other TF) are off and scrambling to join the engineering work. Two larger port units are moving to Nadi as Suva is now over stacked, and the 40th won't push off for Nadi until its remaining bits are unloaded.

Three more IJN destroyers are showing up as sunk: Hatsukaze, Oite, and Yakaze. Hatsukaze is reported as going down in a collision near Rangoon, the other two to 500lb GP bombs near Ramree Island.

The bigger news is that the Imperial Navy has replacements moving into the Bay of Bengal. They are obviously intent on stopping sea lift of supply into Cox' Bazar. IIRC the monsoon will end on October 15th, at which point the shortages should start to ease up even without shipping arrivals.

The Indian 5th Division arrived today at Madras, but they're a mess. 20% morale!

As the large convoy begins passing south of Pago Pago, the transport carrying the 1/102nd Bn breaks off with two APDs in escort for that island. The Ellice Islands will be seized (liberated a second time!) concurrent with the operation to take back Noumea. The engineers on Fiji are working as fast as possible on the port at Suva and the airfield at Nadi to aid both the speed of the upcoming combat loading and aerial support of the battle.

The air losses were more balanced today.

The battleship bombardment of our troops had very little impact. With no Imperial attack associated with it, I figure the bombardment was just a spoiler attack hoped to catch our troops making an attack this day.

In three days the last of the troops slated for the invasion of New Caledonia will be at their embarkation ports. Some will have to switch from Strat Mode to Combat Mode, but all should be able to commence loading within a week from now. Being generous and allowing three or four days to load given port over crowding and the invasion force will be closing on New Caledonia within two weeks. Most forces will load and sail from Suva on Fiji, but some will come from Wellington. Those later forces are in place and simply waiting, so they will load a bit early and begin sailing north in their slower ships. The Kiwis will seize La Foa to prevent retreat of Imperial forces from Noumea, and provide additional forces for the march to Koumac.

There were a couple more land-based fighter sweeps over Chittagong but the losses were about even. Add to the air action near and over India that the P-38s had another tough day over Port Moresby, not quite pulling even with the Zeros.

Status: offline 		Well, I am sure the dastardly admiral noticed all the bubbling torp tracks tracking toward his carriers and got a bad case of the shakes as a result......but, that was a little disappointing.  Only one actually exploded against Kaga's hull (maybe).

As to Yamato taking a bomb hit....did anyone on the ship notice?  Oh, wait, it caught the Admiral's barge on fire...I'll bet that pissed him off.
