That might not have been their primary mission as they also bombed facilities at Chittagong and Cox's Bazar. Some of the trouble the B-17s ran into might have been weather and/or coordination related. quote:

I am considering whether I should put all the 2EB near the coast on naval attack now that this KB's CAP is weakened?
