"Floating spirits - Begone!"

No battle NE of Suchow as the ex-defenders of that liberated rail stop were wiped out from the air. The armored units will race to Tsinan. With 4,168 AV at Chungking tomorrow we will make our first attack there. Remarkably, all units at Hankow are ready to attack and will also go tomorrow. One armoured unit will be held back due to high disablements making destroyed tanks more likely if they take damage. Base forces have arrived at Chengting and 84 Allied fighters are now there waiting for the daily strikes at our armour to the east.

Cebu is secured.

Japan does seem to be in the jaws of a vise in your west/east screenshots. Lets see what breaks when you start squeezing!

Two of the Iowa BB will still be in repairs (man it takes forever to repair damage to those things - pity the Yamato) but the rest will be done within two weeks. The other BB and CV/CVE will be back on station (from Pearl) within about 3 weeks or less to support the Kochi invasion, but the first 2 Iowa BB repaired might not make it quite that fast.

I'm wondering if due to our age and desire to hide things from new guys (semi-obscure sarcasm warning), maybe we should start doing this AAR in Ye Olde English? Pray tell, good sir, your mind?

I would prefer if you maintain this AAR in historically accurate Pacific Theater code language - Navajo.

We can discuss it at the old guys rendezvous club where everyone under 45 is purposely excluded ~ further as I am still on probation I will have to buy all the beer again

Disruption among our targeted ground units is already down even though they were still attacked today. I'm sure that sweeps will come while the bombers lick their wounds, but that also protects the troops on the ground.

We now have 2,038 AV at Hankow and 3,501 AV at Chungking. The casualty ratios favor us at both locations, but Hankow is the tougher nut to crack. Chungking of course is surrounded by so many angry former POW units that we could withstand virtually unlimited casualties but certainly will not have to. Two experienced Chinese Army units that held back to upgrade to '45 squads will be on line before the next attack. Supply for the defenders at Hankow was apparently adequate, which is a disappointment.

The B-24J groups that have been hitting defenders at Hankow will switch to Hangchow to aid tomorrow's assault there. All the ground attack P-38L squadrons will join in, but high casualties are expected. We will also have a special appearance this evening.

Big sweeps ordered over Tokyo tomorrow by 5x P51D, 4x P-47D25, and 4x P-47N squadrons. On the western side, 3x P-47D2 and 5x P-47D25 squadrons will sweep Fukuoka while the daytime B-29 groups hit Light Industry and Heavy Industry there. They will operate from 10,000 ft because they will face far fewer guns than over other targets. 9x P-51D squadrons will sweep Hiroshima/Kure.

China west.

An example of something I haven't seen before: what I take to be FOW in a combat animation concerning the direction the air strike came from. Note that there is only one Allied group, and they are based at Haichow, one hex to the west. The very short red line (I think indicating visual detection in this case) shows the raid arriving from the ESE!

The stout naval bombardment before the battle must have helped, as did the chaos and disablements inflicted by the sacrifice of a number of fighters and attack bombers making low level ground attacks. Next time we will have both battleship task forces hit prior to the battle, the first at night and the second in daylight. Our engineer units took the worst beating, but a number of brigades are also hors de combat. We have 2,781 AV in hex right now, but at least 300 in badly mauled units is being pulled out. We will compensate with other units as possible. Two amphibious tank units also took extemely high disablements and will withdraw to R&R.

Although only one additional unit has made it into position at Chungking we will attack tomorrow because the troops have recovered so well. At Hankow one Chinese Army unit is still badly disrupted and below 50% able squads. The two Bde which withdrew across the river to Wuchang are recovering nicely and will join the next attack. The Indian 255th Tank Bde had heavy disablements and also pulled back to Wuchang, but has taken the opportunity to upgrade all AFV to Stuart VI, Sherman V, and Daimler. They still have many to bring on line but should be more effective when they do.

After the Empire's daily ineffective bombardment, our first attack at Zamboanga.

Air losses. Our sweeps over the Home Islands were highly successful. The Empire's sweeps in northern China also successful, but much more modestly so.

That ghost convoy is still spotted but was protected by weather today. So was Industry at Fukuoka.

Tomorrow is predicted to be overcast but good weather predictions are few and far between. With Muroran airfield complex making size 9 we will again hit Tokyo Manpower. B-29 night variants at night (possibly with escorts but I don't know how that works), B-29 day variants at 12,000 ft, and B-24 at 10,000 with many P-38 escorts. The various P-47 and P-51 groups will sweep "first". P-47 and P-51 groups from the Ryukus (Okinwawas) will sweep other targets for general attrition and possibly to distract long range CAP helpers.

The Imperials at Chungking are nearly pushed out of the city.

Almost half of their able squads were laid low, and destroyed squads increased considerably. Our next attack should achieve high odds. The East African 11th Division has about half infantry squads disabled and will pull back to Neikiang to R&R. Their AV has been more than made up by the newly arrived Chinese units and adequate heavy weapons remain in the other Allied units. The next attack will be in 2 or 3 days. Shanghai Light Industry is down to 12.
