Tokyo. Our night B-29 groups made a number of hits despite heavy night fighter presence and brought Fires up to 90,000. Only 3 Superfortresses were lost. Increases in damage to a number of industrial facilities are evident from recon with hopefully more to come.

But they only get one slice of spam a day for a week before a battle. Gotta keep them hungry and mean!

All the forces from Mindanao save the Bde at Zamboagna, plus a bunch from Sumatra and Java. Two divisions, some Rgt/Bde, and a bunch of arty. With plenty of units to prevents retreats, the two clear terrain bases will be cleared first, then Clark, then Manila. Manila won't stand a chance.

Home Islands west. Next turn we will take final inventory of where the units assigned for the Kochi invasion are and form convoys to get them. The carriers which recently upgraded at Pearl will be back to Hokkaido in about 4 days. A dozen squadrons of New Zealand fighters, mostly Corsairs but some Warhawks, are almost finished making ready at Kushiro after their sea lift. They will provide most of the LBA CAP once the base is ours and operational.

Home Islands west. A division is unloading for Kochi is unloading at Agrihan in the Marianas, so creation on convoys will wait until they are done. Osaka/Kyoto has almost 400 fighters, which is expected given nearby industry. But Kobe, just to the west and only 3 hexes from Kochi, has almost 400 bombers and is size 10. We will have hit that airfield complex as the invasion approaches. I think that DAW HQ has made a good guess about the approximate location of our next invasion.

Air losses. A number of air strikes against our ships near Hakodate were all disrupted by night fighters and no hits made against our ships. Our sweeps over Tokyo did well but the battles were small.

It doesn't always work, but the intensity of the color of the troops in a hex can be helpful in determining troop strength.

Then there is always Alfred's manpower formula to estimate AV.

Still, flying into only 800 fighters should be doable -- using land based air to disrupt a well planned Yank major invasion is usually a method for Japan to lose 1000 aircraft for very little gain, maybe a couple of CVEs.

He really needs to meet the invasion with over 3000 planes. Can he do that? Does he have the supplies to do it?

Been away from posting for a while as I wound down my one game but now I am back...and rooting for Japan!!!!!

I use that method. I find it helpful.

Then there is always Alfred's manpower formula to estimate AV.
I use that too (or a similar swag), but where is it you are suggesting that I use it? I not sure where your comment is about.

I'm not sure how many fighters will be on station, but it might even exceed 800. Have had mercifully little in the way of carrier casualties.

He really needs to meet the invasion with over 3000 planes. Can he do that? Does he have the supplies to do it?
I'm not sure that he can. Supplies on the 3 remaining Home Islands are a total mystery to me, but I do think they must be short due to the general situation and the close blockade of the HI.

Been away from posting for a while as I wound down my one game but now I am back...and rooting for Japan!!!!!

Japanese Unit(s) surrounded at Chungking

Recon shows fewer than 17,000 remain. In two more days we will have more than 3,000 AV assembled in Hangchow for the next attack. Gethering forces for the next assault at Hankow will take longer as that will include many "new" Chinese Army units that are now marching from the railhead at Changsha.

Zamboagna zombies continue to hold their ground.
