We have 4,280 AV in Shanghai after the attack, nad of course much more on the way. We are pulling out a portion of that as mauled units are marching to Nanking to R&R. Some of them have substantial AV but hefty percentages of disabled squads.

Almost all the USA 38th ID is ashore. Disruption in the other divisions is recovering quite well, the highest now 18%. Fatigue is another story: 39, 40, 33, and 29. Another day of rest. That will give more time for the increased air ops to have impact. Map recon shows that some Imperial units are moving out of Kumamoto to the NE, while others are moving in from that direction. In six more days Kochi airfield complex will buld to size 9 which will improve the air situation even more.

There were lots of night air strikes but no damage. Three of the four CVE TF on station areheading to Nago to rearm. The two CVE TF near Saishu To will take up the slack as will their CA TF escort. One surface TF is heading back to Nago to rearm.

DD Kikuzuki was hit again in the morning but missed later in the day.

Shanghai - Yikes !!!

There is an old - politically inappropriate- adage about a 'Shanghai Haircut' as I recall.

You got yours !

But time and patience and more troops are on your side..

Yes to both!

Destroyed squads were heavy but not overly severe. And when I finally finish off the Imperials at Shanghai their losses destroyed will be 100%, and that will be a lot more than the destroyed squads/other devices that we suffer.

While I certainly wanted lighter casualties, I'm satisfied with the results. We took down a fortification level, disabled a number of defender squads that will not repair (disruption, supply, etc.), and achieved nearly 2 to 1 assault odds.

We have as much as 2,000 more AV on the way, and we are pulling out over 1,000 AV in units that suffered a significant percentage of disabled squads (I want to repair those squads rather than lose them as destroyed in the subsequent attacks), so our next attack will have less AV going in. I'll try to have a naval bombardment mission available to help compensate, but we will also benefit from continuing erosion of the defenders' strength anyway.

At least we reduced the fortification level this time. A long haul indeed... More units are moving out to R&R than are staying. Batangas, where some units are still recovering from the previous attack, will be flooded with supply.

Imperial units are still seen moving both in and out of Kumamoto. The next attack is ordered tomorrow, with more air support chipping in. The only naval bombardments assets that will not participate are those needed to keep up daily treatments while the others rearm. Rain is forecast in the region for tomorrow and we can only hope that weather at Kumamoto is good enough to allow proper air and naval bombardments.

Yesterday our PBM made its 5 year anniversary!

Congratulations! That is certainly a milestone not easily reached :) I wonder if any other AAR on these forums has this track record. I think not.

Allied Ships

CVE Ommaney Bay, Torpedo hits 1
CVE Manila Bay
CVE Liscome Bay, Torpedo hits 1

Aircraft Attacking:
19 x B5N2 Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet
Naval Attack: 1 x 45cm Type 91 Torp

Banzai! - Masuyama R. in a B5N2 Kate is willing to die for the Emperor
Banzai! - Sakai M. in a B5N2 Kate is willing to die for the Emperor

I'm confused about this. Were the Kates dropping torpedoes, or were they flying as Kamikazes? Or both?

Ah - OK. The "Banzai!" messages can happen in any attack, even the first turn of the game when kamikazes are not activated. It's historical. On December 7, 1941 at least one Japanese aircraft in the Pearl Harbor attack deliberately crashed into an aircraft hanger because his aircraft was damaged (leaking fuel) and he knew he would not have fuel to get back to the carriers.

So, they dropped torpedoes. Either with or without their torpedoes on board, a couple of them attempted to crash into ships.

Thanks!

I don't know, but there have been enough long games that also moved slow at least for a time that I figure someone has. Then of course there are all the PBM games where neither player does an AAR.

Home Islands west. There was some MTB action at Kochi. A series of night air strikes did not hit our fleet off Kumamoto. Significantly, the Empire pulled out the stops protecting the air space over Kumamoto and our heavy escort with almost all raids engaged in fierce air battles to protect their charges and deliver them over target. Overnight the naval bombardments were good. The ground attack went well.

The casualty ratio is far better this time, and heavy suppression of the defenders' AV by disruption is evident. Reducing the fortification level to 2 will yet again increase the effects of air and naval bombardments. Oncoming Imperial reinforcements will find a more difficult environment.

A number of our armored units are wasted will most of their fighting devices disabled and so are in Reserve to recover somewhat faster. The infantry is in good shape but disruption is high and fatigue is sky high. One division is in Reserve to recover disabled squads faster. The attack bombers and fighters that hit ground troops today are standing down to preserve them for the next attack but other types will continue attacking. Several CVE TF have finished replenishing at Nago and will return to station at Kumamoto, where all the CVE will add their torpedo aircraft to support for the next ground assault.

Air losses. Tough going, and P-51D squadrons at Amami Oshima will switch back from escort to sweeping Kumamoto. Just to outline the air support, all the B-29 groups on Formosa and Hokkaido are now participating, including the night variants (figuring heavy escort will compensate); other bases operating strikes by various types include Daito Shoto, Naha, Nago, Tokunoshima, Amami Oshima, Tokara Retto, Yakushima, Takamatsu, Kochi, Matsuyama, and Saishu To. The few USA (non-B-29) 4EB remaining on Formosa that couldn't fit on closer airfields have moved to Hangchow, 14 hexes from Kumamoto. All the of B-24J and their P-38 fighters escorts have moved from Muroran on Hokkaido to Hangchow, and all the USA 4EB at Hangchow will now target Kumamoto.

Kumamoto. The Allied infantry are working their butts off - look at those fatigue numbers! There are no Amphibious landings underway here for the near future, so perhaps the Imperials will not bombard and that will speed recovery.
